The High Houses

The High Houses serve as the alternate rulers of Aspyre, taking turns after the cycle of the seasons is completed. While one House rules, the other two Houses serve as advisers for the ruling House.

There are three current Houses. Their way of choosing their leaders, as the leaders shuffle every so often, are all very different. One of them uses the belief that their family, or a pure lineage is better for helping the monarchs rule. Another believes in a mixed meritocracy, where they also take in consideration the merits of the sons or daughters in the main family.

The third, however, believes in the power of the people, and relies solely on meritocracy to see who should be able to guide the current ruler. The spectrum of people thus gives varied advice to the ruler, allowing them to effectively rule.

Each family has their own set of rules and codes, morals and standards for weddings and other social interactions. But no matter who rules, whatever decisions they make are balanced with what the Seers say, may it be a message from the gods or a glimpse of the future.

= The Desjardins' moral beliefs revolve around loyalty to the King, the land, the House and self (but not to an extent of selfishness). The current Lord and his heirs must respect one another and their subjects. Subjects/workers must humbly obey their master's wishes, if they still want to get paid.

= Respect and is not earned easily, one must strive for it.

= One mustn't break his or her family's trust. Once the trust is broken, it is broken.

= Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Rules;

= A man of the Desjardin house must marry a woman of high nobility, grace and poise. A woman of the house of Desjardin must also marry a man of high nobility, but keep her name and her husband's name.

= Academics is mandatory for all Desjardins. Male and female receive equal schooling; but most curricular activities must be: swordsmanship, mathematics, ethics/etiquette and politics. Co-curricular activities include: music, dance and speech.

= Only males are allowed to rule the overall household. As long as there is a male in the household, whether it be eldest, middle or youngest--he is to rule the house. If there are only female children, the eldest female will take rule of the house, weds bears a male child and rules the house until child is of age.

= Wield power with great caution and responsiblity.

The Golden Rules:

1) A man born under the family of von Windsor must ask a woman of high family to marry. A woman born under the family of von Windsor will not be asked to shed their name, instead as a high standing member of society will ask the man to shed their name and join the von Windsor family.

2) Men and women shall receive equal schooling. Both sexes are free to choose their own courses, however they shall be schooled in only the highest academies.

3) It is important never to shame your family and always work for the common good under the King. We are loyal to him and must strike at any usurpers of the throne.

4) Those who are of malice must be punished; and it is the duty of the blood of the von Windsor's to show the society that pure blood means power.

5) Use your brains wisely in any situation, and weigh each decision carefully. If impossible and you must face the problem head-on, learn to adapt. All von Windsor's must learn that they must not lose face, looking adversity right in the eye.

6) Respect your fellow men, no matter of what stature.

Morality of the von Windsor:

- Your family members are your most trusted confidantes. You must not betray their trust, as they must not betray yours.

- The blood of the von Windsor is a blessing and a curse; we are blessed to be advisers and rulers of our respective areas and fields--we are cursed for those exact same reasons.

- Wield power responsibly.

- Learn to delegate and learn from past mistakes and to listen to the people under your command.

- We are the forefront of aristocracy; show yourself with dignity.

- Never back down from a challenge, always keep your promises.

Ethics:

• Above all else, Aspyre is priority. Schuldeif may serve as advisor to the ruling House, but their business lies with military direction and Aspyrian well-being as a whole. Self, wealth and everything else is secondary. Schuldeif offers both it’s absolute loyalty and protection; we are Aspyre’s Shield and Sword.

• Work hard, work long, work well.

• If a Schuldeif member exhibits too much fascination with their paycheck they will be subject to inspection. Corruption is equivalent to a lifetime of dishonor and exile.

• Do as is necessary, when necessary.

• Man or Woman, we all have equal potential.


Rules:

+ A completed education is required of all official members of House Schuldeif. As a meritocracy, our performance is most important in serving Aspyre. With an education possibilities are nigh-endless.

+ There is to be no discrimination based on family background or gender. Judge and speak based on one’s actions and performance, beneficial or otherwise. This extends but is not limited to legal matters such as marriage and the holding of property.

+ There are no restrictions on who a member of House Schuldeif legally marries, other than that they must not be a member of the other Houses. This is to avoid conflictions of loyalty.

+ An exam in three parts is required to become a Schuldeif, other requirements not included. The first exam is a written one in which varied topics are discussed; the second is an oral trial testing the ability of the contester to improvise and think on their feet; the third and final section of the exam is a field test, varying in intensity and subject. By nature the whole exam is grueling and to take it is to devote oneself completely.

Please note that while character usernames may be "Anke de Schuldeif" or "Liv de Schuldeif" it is impossible for their surnames to be Schuldeif. As a meritocracy, Schuldeif is a title and not a generic last name for members. Each member has their own last name; take into account Anke Bernat.
