It happened to me before with my 1st forum !

Hmm... It would seem that the constant spambot attacks seem to be killing the forums slowly. And it's not like we can rely on Acer to come back anytime within the next 9 months to fix it as he's on another of his infamous 'absences', the last of which lasted for about one and a half years lolz.

I've been sitting around in the background trying to hold the tide of spam back, and I'm sure that Turok's been doing the exact same thing, and I've noticed a severe dip in activity from the time Acer left to now, and this happened the same way the last time Acer went inactive.

The problem with Acer's Forums is everything is so stale around here. Acer posted every possible thread under the sun a few years back, and so the whole thing of going into a section here (like the forum games or the general discussion or other sections) and seeing the thread starter for nearly all the threads is Acer is kinda off-putting. Plus there's the overly complex member levels system, and insanely over-complex staff system...

I dunno - I just think that there's a lot within Acer's Forums that could do with work - but the most important of which would be the ability for guests to post (which could do with being turned off ASAP) and the lack of any preventative measures to stop spammers registering and flooding the site with rubbish.

However, this is all just my own opinion - but I do feel strongly that something needs to be done to kick this site back into gear. However, the problem is that without Acer there isn't exactly that much we CAN do to keep this site in working order... >_<

Acer must get some new staff members who are active enough to take care of the spam bots and etc..

teh, if I was a Moderator these spambot threads would be deleted! Not f**king moved to a seperate sub-board...

I don't think that three members (FireFly, Turok, ect) are going to win against hundereds of spambots that plauge these forums constantly.

I agree, but when Acer was around he was very insistent that we don't delete anything and that all spam threads should be moved to the SpamFest sub-board. I think it's stupid to even keep them in the first place in any shape or form, but at the very least the sub-forum should be made invisible to all except staff.

There's various other spam-prevention methods that have been suggested and should've been implemented ages ago (like enabling email validation and disabling guest posting privileges) but have fallen on deaf ears... I rekon this whole site just needs a complete work-over to make it watertight against spammers - something that probably won't happen until such time as Acer decides to promote someone (anyone) to Admin.

In the meantime, I guess we'll just have to try and find ways to work around our situation, and me and Turok'll just have to keep fighting this pointless and never-ending war against the spam. >_<

In the above comment you said that the staff system is overly complex and that the boards are stale and that.
Well I agree!
1) The board discriptions are lengthy and uneeded, a line of text is fine, a paragraph is not.
2) Too many sub-boards, I don'treally need to explain much but that kills activity, if some sub-boards were merged into some of the main boards that would be sweet.
3) Acer has been the only one to make topics around here in the General Chat sections, also waaay oversized sigs may also put people off as people are mainly here to read the post, sigs are just for a decoration and add personality to a member, have masive images

Maybe Acer and his masive signiture put people off from comming here...

The last graphic of the week contest (which seems to have unintentionally become graphic of the month, lol) is only gonna be open for entries for a few days from now, so be sure to get your entries in while you still can! And also feel free to enjoy the many expansive areas we have here on the site. After all, this site is nothing if it doesn't have members posting on it! You make the community, after all...



By the way, one of the things that is stifling posting around here is the insanely long section title for each of the forum sections - names that are needlessly long and could easily say the same thing in far less words. But then again, that's just my opinion...

On topic: I Message'd Acer on MySpace twice, first time was about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and the second time was 1 or 2 weeks ago, and he has ignored both of them even though he was last logged in to MySpace yesterday... >_<

...Just thought I'd keep you guys up-to-date... Hopefully we'll hear from the Acer-dude eventually, but I can't see him bothering to respond any point within the next few months, sadly for us.

I somehow think he has given up on the whole forum thing and ditched us... He could've at least left one of the Global Moderators as an Admin and announced that he left!
