During the summer months and also March in Australia currently four states and one territory implement "daylight saving", meaning clocks are put forward by one hour. This idea came originally from Britian I believe and it's practiced in a number of countries in the world.
Advocates claim it has the benefit of giving one extra hour of daylight at the end of the working or school day during the summer months for people to engage in whatever takes their fancy in the daylight. Critics come up with seemingly numerous arguments against daylight saving, with rural people often very opposed and mothers complaining about their kids having trouble sleeping after going to bed when it's often still light outside and warm in temperature. Queensland had daylight saving for quite a while, but they got rid of it a few years ago in a statewide referendum. Western Australia has experimented with daylight saving on three different occasions in the last 30 years or so, and had three different referendums on the issue. All three said "no" to daylight saving. Meanwhile Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and South Australia haven't had a say in a referendum on this issue for quite some time. Perhaps it has popular support there. Do you support daylight saving? If so, why? If not, why not? Have your say please. -------------------- "The new improvement of this place is slightly better than any of my other forums, including the ProBoards one! I guess you're comfortable with Daylight Savings? And the United States is saying that they're preparing for another Daylight Savings Time in the news, but they're asking Canada if they're willing to take the test. Will they? -------------------- "The new improvement of this place is slightly better than any of my other forums, including the ProBoards one! hmm i think they should leave it as is.... Its like trying to change time allthogether - all countries who dont agree will end up being confused and it will only mess things up - Its all too confusing - They should just leave it. Otherwise it will cause disagreement - Yes - im fine with D L S but if there gunna try another one - i think thats BS

Against. I am a resident of West Australia and we have done perfectly fine without it for the past who knows how many years and all of a sudden we are forced to change or clocks both artificial and internal biological ones.
It has been proven that a good regular wake/sleep cycle is vital for optimum health and performance. Therefore by implementing daylight savings the regular wake/sleep cycle is disturb resulting in tiredness, irritability, lack of concentration etc. There is even a condition which has been labeled DLSS (Day Light Saving Syndrome). Also as the parent of a young child I am faced with the difficult situation in trying to make sure that she gets the correct amount of sleep to function the next day at school. It is very hard to get a small child to go to sleep when the sun is still shining at 9pm. To all those who like the 'extra' hours of daylight....NEWSFLASH! You still get the same amount of daylight hours. Try getting out of bed earlier. I think you may find that the day is just as long. What better way to start the day than a wonderful swim in the ocean before the sun gets so hot that you are burnt to a crisp, then continue your day by going to work. Exercise first thing in the morning is very good for you. A referendum after daylight savings finished last summer in Western Australia showed that more people disapproved of daylight savings even though they had wanted to give it a go. Most people did not utilize the extra hours during the afternoon because they were too tired after work, it made trying to sleep even worse than normal because the slight drop in temperature was later at night, etc. |

I would believe so too there. The public will be JUST as confused as they are, and they won't know what's going to happen of these certain Timings and all. Gee, make up their damn minds. Do something about the situation already! Like, make some good decisions. Is it really a good suggestion though, or leave time as it is for now until we do something about it in the near future? Is Daylight Savings really THAT necessary to begin with?! Pfft. -------------------- "The new improvement of this place is slightly better than any of my other forums, including the ProBoards one!
