Full Metal Alchemist is moving to take the U.S. by storm from homeland Japan. Currently showing on Adult Swim every Saturday night, it is becoming one of the tops hits. So what do you all think?
I thought the "General Anime" was running a little dry, and this was one of the first animes that came to my mind to talk about. NewtypeUSA Magazine has done several cover articles, and just plain articles on it. There is even a game coming out for the U.S. and action figures galore.
I for one love Full Metal Alchemist. The first time I heard of it I got it confused with Full Metal Panic! but that soon passed. It is a great anime with a wonderful story line and great voice actors. For those of you who do not know what the story is about here is my short summary, bear with it.
Two brothers, Ed and Al, are left with their mother after their father, a state alchemist and well known one at that, never returns home. A sickness of grief overtakes their mother and she dies. Both brothers, having studied their father's notes and training with other alchemists, decided to perform a dangerous human alchemy spell thingie to bring their mother back to life. In the process the younger brother Al loses his body and Ed saves him by sacrificing his arm and leg to attach his soul to a suit of armor. After a mechinical arm and leg is attached to Ed, the two brothers set out to become state Alchemists, and search for the Sorceror's Stone so they can return themselves to normal.
That is pretty much it, for all I know. It is a funny anime and very entertaining. And I found something nifty out.
Ed wears the symbol of a snake wrapped around a cross on his back, well that symbol just happens to have been in the journal of Nicholas Flammel who was a real alchemist long ago (when they thought they could turn like iron to gold) and was one of the people searching for he Sorceror's Stone. Nicholas is also used in Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone. I thought this tid bit of information was interesting.
Well lets hear all about what you think about full Metal Alchemist and get this section going again.
