welcome
Welcome to Annon Nan Dûr, an intermediate to advanced Lord of the Rings role-playing game. This game takes place during the year of 313 of the Fourth Age, and will eventually expand further into the future. It is run by Clover and Leggy, two LotR fangirls. There will be good times and bad times for the characters here as they embark on their journeys to save or destroy Middle-earth. We hope you decide to join and become part of our RP-ing family!
Oh, and in case you were wondering, Annon Nan Dûr roughly translates in Sindarin (one of the languages of the Elves) to "Gate to the Dark".

Quote of the Week
They say the grass always looks greener on the other side, but to Oakhand it seemed clear that the Old Forest near the Hobbit home of the Shire definitely boasted the greenest grass of all. It was in fact one of the few places known to Middle-earth left intact by the recurring wars that often swept the land. Of course, there had been a time when this same forest connected to the further away woods of Fangorn. Time had taken its toll enough to separate these two in to individual forests, yet the depths of each forest had never been penetrated by the destruction of Man and the other races.
- Oakhand in Ethereal Encounters of a Special Kind

Lothlórien The fairest forest realm for the Elves, it was once fully inhabited by the High Elves, or Calaquendi. At present, it is more of a way-station for passing Sindar Elves though some Elves have actually made Lothlórien their permanent home until they venture to the Grey Havens.

Minas Tirith The White Tower that once glimmered like a spike of pearl and silver is no more, it having fallen along with the rest if the White City during the Rohan-Gondor war. Not much to regard anymore, the city is broken and little more than mounds of white rubble. A few Gondorian groups have taken up residence here, trying to reclaim that which they've lost.

Misty Mountains The Misty Mountains are a mountain range, running for 795 miles from north to south, between Eriador and the valley of the Great River, Anduin, and from Mount Gundabad in the far north to Methedras in the south. It possesses three main peaks: Caradhras, Celebdil and Fanuidhol. The climate grows colder the higher one climbs, and the domain is rather treacherous overall.

Moria Moria is an enormous underground complex in north-western Middle-earth, comprising a vast network of tunnels, chambers, mines and huge halls or 'mansions', that runs under and ultimately through the Misty Mountains. Plains of Rohan The Plains of Rohan, aptly named for the Rohirrim that once traveled abroad it in large numbers, include four distinct sections that once made up Rohan as a whole: the Eastfold, the Wold, the Westfold, and the Gap of Rohan. At present, a large portion of the field has been burned away or trampled underfoot. It is not as it once was.

Dagorlad In the Sindarin language, Dagorlad means "Battle Plain." It is a vast, war-ravaged, and barren land. It is a burial ground for the Men, Elves, and Orcs that died in the Battle of Dagorlad. Over time, western marshes came and took over parts of the land. It is said that the bodies of the dead can be seen in the waters of the "Dead Marshes."

Osgiliath Once Gondor's capital, it was a large and beautiful city. Osgiliath was tarnished during the Third Age, and in the Fourth Age, it is now almost in ruins, but some buildings stand as great as they once did. Recently, the Easterlings have invaded Osgiliath, using it as a countermeasure against the rebuilding Gondorian forces in Minas Tirith.

Dol Amroth Having been restored some, and with Minas Tirith fallen, Dol Amroth has become the "capital" of the surviving Gondorian race. It is located on the coast of the Bay of Belfalas on a high promontory overlooking the inlet called Cobas Haven. Sea-walls protect Dol Amroth from the waves in the windy bay, and the remnants of the Gondorian army have built up the city's defenses seeing as it is their last refuge against attack. Ironically, this was the same city in which they were originally defeated.

Ithilien The most easternmost province of what was once Gondor, Ithilien is divided into north and south by the stream of Morgulduin. It was once very prosperous until the last half of the Third Age. The realm Prince Faramir created slowly died as wars raged in the Fourth Age. Still, the place remains beautiful and rich. It is said that Ithilien is "a fair country of climbing woods and swift-falling streams."

Tolfalas Tolfalas is an island in the Bay of Belfalas. Recently, the Haradrim have set up an outpost here to counter the city of Dol Amroth and continue having a foot in the door, as it were, to the more hospitable South of Middle-earth.

Grey Havens The Grey Havens are a port and harbor along the northwestern coast. It is where many Elves, and a few non-immortals, have set sail to the Undying Lands. Activity has lessened in the area since the majority of the Elves who wished to set sail already have. It is a sacred place, guarded by the Elves even now.

Old Forest The Old Forest lies east of the Brandywine River. It is home to "living" trees that seem to communicate with each other. Once a part of the great forest that stretches for miles and miles, it is now much smaller, perhaps due to the darkness that still lingers in the trees.
