Title: Thursday Thinking

cdrdash - April 9, 2009 02:22 PM (GMT)
OK. I'm not really thinking of much. I have a day ahead of me of basic grunt work. Lots of organizing data and running tests and looking at results. It doesn't require much thought.

I'm feeling quite sleepy this a.m. and the coffee isn't waking me up much yet. Hopefully it will kick in soon but I still find myself day dreaming of sleeping some more.

How are you this fine Thursday?

Cathy

p.s. Someone needs to make a good sleepy icon ... the blinking icon is sort of close ...

Cerridwen - April 9, 2009 03:43 PM (GMT)
I didn't know this board was alive again! And a lot of it seems due to you, Cathy, and yogachick, so congratulations both. :cake: I'm off work with a dragging-on cold which has turned into a vicious cough, and am bored and grumpy.

I was almost better last weekend, then somehow got worse on an Aven meetup, organised by me, where we tramped round Kew (large and famous botanical gardens in London). It was a good sunny day, and young Avenites are fun, but I don't feel a whole load in common with them in some ways - age, apart from anything else. (Some of them think I'm ancient and keep asking if I need to sit down. I'm 57.)

We do get a long weekend for Easter in the UK though (the Friday and Monday are public holidays) so I intend to be better because I've got some fun plans as well as things I need to do in the flat. But at the moment I'm still poorly and sorry for myself. :(

(PS: I realise I haven't posted on this board much since it got redesigned over a year ago, so you might not know who I am, sorry! I'm actually Wordwitch on Aven.)

yogachick - April 9, 2009 04:28 PM (GMT)
Hi Cerridwen/Wordwitch! So nice to see more activity and new faces here! I hope you're feeling better soon and can enjoy your long holiday weekend. I had to laugh when you said the younger Avenites asked if you ended to sit down and rest!

Cathy, I'm tired today t oo. I went to bed early and had a lot of weird dreams. Sometimes a lot of dreaming leaves me exhausted the next day. Personally, I think naps ought to be mandatory after age 25! :haha:

So, do you ladies have any special Easter plans?

cdrdash - April 9, 2009 08:16 PM (GMT)
I have no special Easter plans. I am planning on going geocaching with my lesbian geocaching buddies on Saturday. On Easter I'll probably just stay home and do chores and watch the Masters Golf tournament final round. Then on Monday its back to work ... no special Easter holiday for me.

Cerridwen, I can relate to going to AVEN Meetups and being the older one. Most of the folks who show up for San Francisco meetups are about 20 years younger than I (I'm 48). I can't believe they thought you needed to sit down on the Kew Garden walk. LOL.

Cathy

Cerridwen - April 9, 2009 08:40 PM (GMT)
Oddly, I do think of Easter as a special, meditative kind of time, left over from my christian upbringing even though I've been a pagan since around 1985 - I know it was that year because I can date it from my Dad's death.

However, I'll be here doing cleaning and stuff in the flat tomorrow because I'm still a bit ill. I might go for a longish walk round the canals with some friends on Saturday. On Sunday I'm going to the park early with a friend and then having a sort of celebratory breakfast (vegetarian - tofu sausages and potato pancakes). I haven't worked the rest of it out yet!

yogachick - April 9, 2009 09:55 PM (GMT)
We have a family get together and special Easter dinner. I miss having nieces & nephews who still believe in the Easter Bunny! I loved hiding eggs & treats. (ok and saving some for myself! )

My family is all Catholic and go to Mass. I'm the family heathen/agnostic. :P I do like the idea of Easter being a time for reflection and the whole rebirth concept of spring is a beautiful one: a time of renewed hope and new beginnings.

cdrdash - April 16, 2009 01:48 PM (GMT)
I really need to get in bed earlier ... second day in a row when I snuck in another 20 minutes of sleep and wanted more

I did a demo of my program at work yesterday and it went well. I also had an inspection meeting for another piece of software. I'm so glad both those meetings are over and done with. Only one meeting at work today and I'm not the presenter so it won't be that stressful like the meetings yesterday.

I think I'm going to go shopping after work for hiking shoes. My hiking boots are wearing out and I want to get a lighter weight but still supportive shoe for hiking in. My tennis shoes just don't offer the support or traction I need for long day hikes. I'll also need some new boots eventually as I hope to get back to backpacking and need the ankle support of a boot when I'm lugging around 30 to 40 pounds on my back.

Cathy

yogachick - April 16, 2009 06:16 PM (GMT)
Good luck! I absolutely despise show/boot shopping! I have weird feet, they're flat and I have a skinny heels that makes finding shoes a scavenger hunt.

Spring is definitely here in Ohio, we're hitting the 60's today and close to 70 tomorrow.

Cerridwen - April 16, 2009 07:43 PM (GMT)
Oh, yes, it is spring here, in a rainy kind of way! (London spring doesn't hit those kind of temperatures though; aside from climate change, 70 is a summer temperature here.)

Hi everyone, I went on and on being ill with a vicious cough, and am just about OK and properly back at work now. Easter was pleasant (which is important to me from my childhood but I think I already said that) and I did spend the day having a celebration breakfast and walk in the park with my friend. But mostly I've been ill and bored.

Today was a work day, strange, boring, tiring, not worth talking about, but at least I'm well. And I bought new walking boots earlier this year but haven't used them much yet. I think getting out to the country is more of an effort for Londoners than where you are, Cathy, or maybe I just don't try hard enough! I do love lots of things about the city as well.

Thanks for the good luck wish :) yogachick

I have easy feet to fit. They are long and skinny but not so skinny or long that they cause any problems. I am now home with a new pair of hiking shoes that are very comfortable and fit great.

The true test will be how they stand up to a day hike. I'll test them out this weekend. I got them at REI and REI has a great return policy so if I don't like them they will take them back and I can try a different pair.

I got myself some size 10 Merrell Moab Ventilator Hiking Shoes. I feel like a little kid with a new toy!!! :boogie:

The SF bay area is an incredible place to be a day hiker. Most parks you can get to in under an hour by car from where I live (Mountain View, CA). And not only do we have lots of place to go but we have really nice weather most of the year. And we have lots of variety of parks ... ones near the ocean, ones in the redwood forests, and ones in the mountains. In the hot summers you can go hiking next to the ocean or in the redwood forests to stay cool. In the winter you can go hiking in the mountains in the chapparel sort of deserty parks that are too hot to hike in during the summer. Its an amazing place to be a hiker.

yogachick - April 17, 2009 02:16 AM (GMT)
Groovy shoes Cathy! They look comfy, stylish too. I was picturing clunky boots. I can feel your excitement thru the computer! Have fun breaking in the shoes! (I always enjoy your hiking pictures...hint hint hint hint :haha: )

cdrdash - April 23, 2009 05:18 PM (GMT)
I did it. I started the process of getting a domestic partner dissolution from Charlotte. I took three forms to the Santa Clara Country court house and they were all filled out correctly, I paid the fee and a case was opened. Next week hopefully my friend, Linda, will serve the papers on Charlotte and the 6+ month long process will begin of getting a dissolution.

This weekend I'll be busy working on a second draft of our settlement agreement and some other legal paper work. I would rather be hiking but it is more important to get the settlement agreement done. If I manage to finish most of the work on Saturday though, I may go off hiking on Sunday. I'll see what happens.

Since I was busy at the court house all morning, I'll be working from noon to 7 pm today. Ug. I did squeeze in an hour of work before I went to the court house so I don't have to work till 8 p.m.

I'm giving blood today at 11 a.m. The blood mobile is at my work place. I expect when I get home at 7 p.m., I'll be pretty worn out. It will be a busy day.

Cathy

yogachick - April 23, 2009 06:29 PM (GMT)
Hey Cathy, I had no idea that the dissolution process took 6+ months. At least you got the whole thing started! By the start of 2010 it will be behind you.

Kudos to you for donating blood!!! So many lives can be saved by that simple loving act. :)

Beautiful spring day here. I'm enjoying the 60F temps. They're calling for close to 90F this weekend, which is INSANE for Ohio this early in the year. :(

cdrdash - April 30, 2009 01:57 PM (GMT)
Would rather stay home from work today but I'm not sick so its off to work I go.

I made it to the gym last night and worked out 45 minutes on the elliptical machine.

I watched "Lie to Me", "American Idol", and "CSI NY" on TV last night. I did record "Lost" and will watch it tonight.

In answer to yogachick yesterday, I do like "Lost" for the most part. The one thing I don't like about it is some of the violence but I love all the twists and turns the plot makes on this show. I get "lost" in the plot!!

Cathy

yogachick - April 30, 2009 03:33 PM (GMT)
Hey Cathy,
My sister-in-law turned me on to "Lie To Me". Great show. I've always liked Kelli Williams from her "The Practice" days. (another great show I hated to see go off the air) I've learned a lot about reading people's faces & body language, from watching "Lie To Me". I hope it's picked up for another season.

One of the main characters in "Lost" is going to be killed off. I found out who it is by reading about the new Fall '09 shows. One of them is in a new show and is a main character. (I won't spoil it for you unless you ask) Did you know "Lost" only has one more season under contract? They will have a lot of loose ends to tie up next season.

I love the elliptical machine, it's one of my favorite exercise machines! I used to have one but the ex got it. It's such a great all-in-one workout! Toning + cardio. (my butt never looked better than when I had the elliptical machine! If I do say so myself! :haha: )

I've been off by one day, all week. It feels like Friday to me, not sure why I'm so mixed up, sleep deprivation maybe?! Happy T.G.I.F. eve! ;)

cdrdash - May 7, 2009 01:35 PM (GMT)
In a funk today. I hope it fades away as the day progresses. I think work will take my mind off of it.

Cathy

cdrdash - May 14, 2009 03:52 PM (GMT)
Looks like today will be a repeat of the last three days: work, go to the gym, watch some TV.

Work is at a stage I like this week. I understand what I have to do and once I get into it time flies by. I like it when I have real concrete things to get done as opposed to the more nebulous, learn this software and become an expert at it.

I'm looking forward to watching the Bones finale tonight on TV. TV has been full of finales this month. I guess its the U.S. May sweeps so all the networks want to put on their best TV to get high ratings for their shows. It makes for fun TV watching.

Cathy

yogachick - May 14, 2009 06:36 PM (GMT)
I am so overwhelmed right now I wish I could run away. I'm at a crossroads and am not sure which path to take. It is a major decision that affects not only me, which is making the decision much more difficult. I think I will call a dear friend of mine who is very logical, level-headed and rarely steers me wrong for his input.

Season Finales are in the air! I'm a big Grey's Anatomy fan. Their finale is this evening. I'm also a Survivor fan, theirs is on Sunday. Grey's Anatomy has worked in a lesbian storyline. It's always nice to see that! I long for the day when it is mainstream. (yea I'm a dreamer!)

cdrdash - May 21, 2009 01:55 PM (GMT)
I had a really nice dinner with an old friend last night. We had coffee first at Starbucks and caught up on all the news. Then her wife showed up and the three of us went out to dinner at a place called California Pizza but there was more than pizza. I had chicken picatta. It was fun to get to know my friend's wife better. I had only really met her at the engagement party and a big after the wedding party. Its hard to get to know someone at a big party. We all three marveled at how we all share an intense dislike of talking on phones. All of us would rather use email to get business done and meeting in person for chit chatting.

Cathy

yogachick - May 21, 2009 08:19 PM (GMT)
Wow! I thought I was the only one who didn't like to talk on the phone! I'd much rather do e-mail or in person even better. It isn't always possible I realize, but as for phone calls, I like them to be quick & to the point! lol

I got my hair cut & colored today! YAY Good-bye greys!!! :boogie: (any chance to use boogie!) I went shorter for summer, it feels great, especially since it is close to 90 here today. The girl who does my hair has been telling me for months, how awful her live in boyfriend treats her, doesn't pay ANYTHING towards bills etc. (Kick him to the curb!) Today she dropped a bomb: she's pregnant! :o She is not a happy camper. I feel really bad for her. I do not understand why she has stayed with him this long, too many big, bright red flags. She is very young, early 20's. I hope it all works out for her.

cdrdash - May 28, 2009 07:21 PM (GMT)
Its lunch time at work so I'm here posting in my free hour. I had a bagel with cream cheese, some yogurt, a banana, and a cup of coffee for lunch.

I have spent the morning at work trying to get my tests organized so when I have to run them I know exactly where to go to run them and find the results. I like organizing so its been a fun morning in that respect.

My tree saga with the neighbor continues. He or his contractor threw the branch over the fence that I requested and also cut another branch and pitched it over the fence. So I have a job when I get home to start chopping up the branches and put them in the yard refuse bin. I have been cutting up and keeping the thick branches for fire wood at my next campout.

My June has been filling up with party invites. A person I met on a hike invited me to her 60th birthday party. I got invited to a membership appreciation party for SWE/SCV (Society of Women Enginers Santa Clara Valley section). My good friend Dave invited me to his 50th birthday party. And finally I got invited to a picnic fund raiser by my friend Wen. Its going to be a very social month.

Cathy

yogachick - May 28, 2009 08:41 PM (GMT)
I've been busy selling things from the spare bedroom that are no longer used. Other items I've given away on Freecycle (thanks for the tip Cathy!). I love to de-clutter! :boogie:

I got some new seat covers for my car. I was fortunate enough to find a material that looks almost identical to the factory installed material! They were quite the ordeal to put on though. Good thing I have slender hands, there isn't much wiggle room underneath the seats. It really improves the appearance of the interior of the car. :D

The parties sound fun Cathy!! Enjoy!

cdrdash - June 12, 2009 02:54 AM (GMT)
Well what do you know I didn't do any Thursday thinking last week. go figure.

I'm still swamped at work and just want to do non-thinking sort of activities when I get home like watch TV.

Cathy

cdrdash - June 18, 2009 08:30 PM (GMT)
Watched most of So You Think You Can Dance last night. I missed the first half hour. However I DVRed the show so I can rewind and watch the dances I missed tonight and then watch the show to see who gets booted tonight. I started watching a CSI NY rerun at 10 pm and promptly fell asleep on the couch so turned off the TV and headed to bed.

I had a really nice hike with my buddy, Linda. We checked out new trails at Fremont Older and decided they were much like the other trail route we usually do. We saw quite a few mountain bikers and a few other hikers. The weather was awesome ... sunny, blue sky, but not too hot. After the hike we went out to dinner at Baja Fresh and had some Mexican food.

I have a crush on Cat Deeley! B)

cdrdash - June 25, 2009 07:49 PM (GMT)
This weekend is San Francisco pride weekend.
On Saturday:
At 9:30 a.m. I'll be going on a GLS (Gay and Lesbian Sierrans) walk to the Twin Peaks in San Francisco from the Castro street area (the gay mecca of SF) to see the big pink triangle that gets put there for pride. After the walk, I'll go to brunch with the hikers.
At 4:00 p.m. I'll head to DJ's house for the AVEN party. There will be a barbecue and preparing for the parade the next day (making posters etc.).
At 7 or 8 p.m. I might go with some other AVENites to do the SF Dyke March.

On Sunday:
In the morning meet with the AVEN folks to participate in the pride parade Asexual contigent!! Woo Hoo. I'm not sure what I'll be up to once the parade ends. I'll play it by ear.

I imagine it will be a fun weekend for me but an exhausting one. I'm quite the introvert and all this socializing and large crowds will be sure to drain me of my energy.

I'm jealous! That sounds amazing Cathy! Have fun, just pace yourself!

It's sweltering here 97 with matching humidity. Ugh. (*think snow*)

I'm waiting to hear back from a friend whose daughter was taken to the hospital last night. (grown daughter) Trying to find something fun (and cool!) to do this weekend!I'm in dire need of fun & laughter!

SYTYCD vote off is tonight, are you still pulling for Melissa? (Melissa, Kayla, Ade, and Vitolio are my picks)

cdrdash - June 26, 2009 12:56 AM (GMT)
I'm still pulling for Evan and Melissa in SYTYCD. I thought Melissa did very well last night but I'm a bit worried that Evan will be voted off tonight.

cdrdash - July 23, 2009 03:01 PM (GMT)
I'm going to go see the movie Star Trek tonight after work with my office mate. She has seen it before but wants to see it again. I'm looking forward to it. But first I have to make it through a three hour meeting at work of reviewing software tests and then after lunch a one hour meeting for code inspection. Phew.

Cathy

p.s. Watched "So You Think You Can Dance" on TV last night. My two favorites, Melissa and Evan, are still there but tonight two more get sent home and I'm thinking both could easily get voted off tonight.

cdrdash - August 6, 2009 07:37 PM (GMT)
Still waiting on the SF Chronical article on asexuality to come out. I emailed the reporter to let me know when it was coming out so I could buy myself a paper that day. He hasn't emailed me yet. He did say maybe next Sunday but that was before last Sunday and no article yet. Oh well.

I started a "get in better condition/health" plan on August 1st. I'm eating more healthy and less calories and exercising more in the hopes of shedding some pounds. I'm following my own plan that worked 5 years ago. I finally felt motivated enough this month to stick to the plan. So far so good for 5 days.

Looking forward to watching the grand finale of the TV show "So You Think You Can Dance" tongiht. I like the four dancers who are left and have no clue what so ever who will win. I'm just going to enjoy watching the dancing.

Hello ... any one out there??

What are you up to today? Doing any Thursday thinking??

I'm feeling sleepy and unmotivated to do much of anything.

But I expect by the work days end I'll haul myself to the gym for a work out before I plop down to watch some TV tonight.

Cathy

cdrdash - April 8, 2010 07:29 PM (GMT)
Here I am wandering about the Asexal Lesbian forum so I thought I would post in my Thursday Thinking thread.

I am mostly thinking about what I need to do today to prepare for my parent's visit this weekend. They are flying to San Francisco from Michigan tomorrow. I pick them up from the airport at 11:17 a.m. I took the day off from work so I can entertain them. What is left on my plate to do today is finish my work day (lunch will be over soon) at 4 p.m., work out at the gym, grocery shop, come home and vacuum, and make the guest bed. And somewhere in there cook and eat dinner! Phew.

I do have a couple of hours in the morning to finish up chores if I don't accomplish it all tonight.

What is occupying your mind today?

Cathy

girlfromtexas - April 8, 2010 11:54 PM (GMT)
What's occupying my mind? A sense of relief after accomplishing so much at work today, and a headache that I assume is allergy related. Mostly my brain feels foggy after working my tail off this week. I'm glad tomorrow's Friday! Have fun w/ your folks!

Ace - April 9, 2010 05:28 AM (GMT)
Thursday is almost over~ I still got roughly 30 minutes left though ;)

I can't believe school's almost over. In just a couple of weeks summer vacation begins, which means job hunting and volunteering for Pride, which should be pretty awesome. B)

Ugh, I can't even remember the last time I was here...college has a very nice way of eating free time haha

I probably should go to bed since I have early classes, so it's a good night from me! :D
