| QUOTE | | Awwww greycloud, congrats on the new kitty! Any name yet? How did you get her? A stray or adopted from a shelter? When a sweet little kittne in napping in your lap, the whole world seems right. |
Her name is Marisa, she's 3 months old which is really young, kitten are supposed to stay with their mother and siblings until they're 14 weeks old, but my little one was rescued from an animal death camp in Spain. My girlfriend accidentaly stumbled across her on a cat forum and we immediately fell in love with the little one. Here's a picture. | QUOTE | | Where didja go on your vacation? Or didja just stick close to home for some R&R? |
I spent the week with my mother on a small isle in the north of Germany. It was peaceful and quiet, but I missed home because our baby kitty arrived while I was still on vacation. My girlfriend sent me pictures on the phone, and I couldn't wait to get back.

| QUOTE ("yogachick") | | Hey Carsonspire, ou tof curiosity, how are you treated when people find out you're from the US? There is so much tension in the world...I was wondering if US citizens abroad are taking the punishment for what our "higher ups" have done? |
I haven't encountered much trouble and I think that's largely due to the fact that I speak German fairly fluently and don't stand out as a "loud American". Usually the first question someone asks when they find out I'm from the US is: "Clinton or Obama?" Thank goodness the primaries are over!
| QUOTE ("yogachick") | | I've never been to Europe but imagine it would be amazing! Where has been your favorite place to visit/live and why? |
Europe is "amazing" in the same way that most places outside of where you grew up are "amazing". Yes, of course the history is much older than that of the United States, but there's also a certain universality to it all. People are people, no matter where you go, and each person carries certain understandings, certain experiences, certain cultural identities, which they draw upon to give you a glimpse into "their" land more than any guidebook ever could.
I'm not sure if I have a favorite place. I am somewhat partial to Germany because I spent a lot of time there as a teen, both traveling and studying. The one thing I do really like about Europe (and yes, I know it's cliche!) is how many cultures there are so close together. Just earlier this week, I took an hour-long train ride from my Turkish neighborhood in Austria across the border into Slovakia and spent the afternoon there before coming back on the train that evening, during which time I was chatting with a Hungarian couple in German. And that was less than 24 hours!
Then again, the US is a land of immigrants, some of whom are working tirelessly to preserve their own culture and retain that sense of "home", regardless of where in the world they may be. There's something very special about that, too.
