Hey all. The US has been getting backward weather lately .. Warm where it is usually cool and cool where it is usually warm.

Is your country experiencing odd weather for the season?

I live in the upper midwest which is prone to A LOT of snow. Today it is over 70 degrees, which is very rare in March. We were getting two feet of snow one day, and then a beautiful warm day the next. While I left this area for over 17 years to pursue life in other parts of the country, I can say in the combined 24 years or so that I have lived here, I have not experienced weather like this.

Being the Discovery Channel geek that I am, I have learned that weather regularity is more unnatural (when one looks at the course of the history of the earth) than weather fluctuations, so perhaps we are simply going back to "normal"

--not discounting global warming of course though.....

I just got back from a windy chilly hike in the SAn Francisco bay area. The first two minutes we got hailed on but that storm cloud moved out quickly and the rest of the hike we had mostly blue skies with a very brisk wind. I was glad I wore my north face raincoat. It kept me warm. It's usually much warmer here this time of year!

I remember my first visit to San Francisco. I like a lot of tourists thought it was going to be sunny and warm. I was unprepared clothing wise and almost froze with the wind chill.

Since my last post, I found out that we are breaking heat records several days in row, some that haven't been broken for over 50 years.

Last year we had record snowfall (the snowbanks were over my head). This past winter we had four snowfalls and two of them were melted in two days. It was the driest winter in about 100 years and the only reason I needed my boots at all most of the time was that there was ice on the sidewalk and my boots have better grip.

For as fickle as that weather pattern sounds, it's not odd for Edmonton. We never have the same winter twice in a row. Last time we had the kind of snow the '10-'11 brought was about 1992-1993 and I think we had a few warmer winters since then. Yet the '09-'10 winter was bitterly cold and one night we broke the record for the second coldest place on earth. If it weren't for a little weather station in Siberia we would've got the gold but had to settle for the silver.

Contrary to what the rest of the world will tell you, Edmonton does NOT have predictable winters.

Now we have switched to hotter than the average sf bay area April. Was in high 80's last Saturday when crazy me decided to do an 18 mile hike! I survived but barely. The mile long very steep hill was so hard. At times I felt like I was going to be sick. Thankfully we soon reached the creek trail where we got to wade back and forth through the creek and cool off.

It's been reaching low-mid 70s here and last night it snowed...it got too hot too quickly for it to really stay any real length of time, though. Although...that's odd for many places but that's pretty normal for this place. Seeing things like snow on the ground in June isn't really out of the norm for Flag. Most people here don't like it

See these two maps in this NPR article:

http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2012/0...-these-two-maps

According to National Climatic Data Center, 942 records were broken in just the first five days of the month (July 2012) and another 273 were tied. In June 2012, 2,284 records were broken and another 998 were tied.
