Remember--if you have any questions, you are always welcome to ask the admins! We don't bite!

I. LAWS ON JOINING

1. Before you join, you must-must-must read these rules. It's not just a formality- it's actually really helpful for you! Even if you choose not to read the rules, if you break them you will be informed and possibly punished, depending on the rule broken. This is not to be harsh, but you are expected to read the rules.
2. When filling out your character profile, don't skimp on anything. It's easiest to play a well-fleshed out character as opposed to an empty one, so it's not only for our benefit, it's for yours too!
3. If your character doesn't get accepted right away, don't pester us. Maybe we have good reasons? Maybe we have lives that don't include living on this site every second waiting for someone new to join? (just maybe)
4. If you don't get accepted at all- as in, if your character is rejected for the time being- don't fret! We will have told you why, so you can fix it! That's the nifty thing with being able to edit our posts. Any mistakes can always be fixed.
5. Please, wait to be accepted before posting! Wait. No. That's not a please. YOU MUST WAIT TO BE ACCEPTED BEFORE POSTING. We honestly don't want freaky little purple-haired dog people running around our lovely Weyr. And if you try to do that, you are NOT going to get away with it.
6. Speaking of- we are a relaxed canon Weyr. We will have some differences to Anne McCaffrey's specifications of her lovely planet, but not much! And this means- no dog people. no purple hair. no pig people. no goat people. If you have a person, that person is a human, through and through. Blond hair combined with blue eyes is really hard to come by on Pern. Any other questions as to what is considered canon and non-canon? Go here. CLICK ME!
7. Humans, and crafters must receive their accepted stamps before you can go on playing them. It's an obvious thing that says "ACCEPTED", with a nifty checkmark on it too. Once they've got that, they'll be moved into their appropriate forum.
8. You may not create a bronze or a gold (unless you have been given special permission, which is rare, and will likely come in the form of contests and advertising gimmicks). No exceptions. Not even for mods or admins, unless we deem it a really, really special cause. There will be no "on a whim" bronze or gold riders, or handlers. They will be Hatched for you. While you may join blues, greens, or browns, it will be harder to get your brownrider approved, and you may not join a female brownrider.

II. LAWS ON SOCIAL INTERACTION
Out Of Character

1. Be nice to your fellow users!
2. We were all newbies once- show our lovely new players around if you happened to be a seasoned player!
3. No cussing OOC. Keep it to a small minimum. Shards and other Pern "expletives" are okay, but nothing else.
4. Admins and mods are the judges- their word is final. You do not contest the Admins or Mods. There are no "objections". A question would be alright, though.
5. Please do not repeatedly nag your fellow members for posts. Lightly poke or jokingly request, yes. But nothing such as "You need to post for me, Joe. Now. Please?" If we hear that you are repeatedly nagging other members, we will talk to you about it.
6. Is a fellow player disobeying these or any other rules? For their sake, and for your reputation, please PM an Admin or Mod to tell them about it- no one likes a tattle-tale, much less one that broadcasts whatever they have to say to everyone!

In Character

1. Follow the guidelines of Pern- honestly, they don't say our cusswords! Think of them as medieval folk for the most part.
2. No one-liners! This is an Intermediate/Advanced RPG. If you are taking the time to create a character, and play them, you should care enough to give the people you are posting to someone to interact with and react to. "She said 'Hello'." doesn't cut it!
3. If you don't have correct typing grammar, you don't belong here either. U is not synonymous with "you", and R does not mean "are". If you cannot handle this, I'm sorry, but leave. We're a creative writing site. NOT a social-interaction site. (not that there isn't any of that, of course. But we're based on the writing, so you might as well write right!)

III. LAWS ON CHARACTERS

1. Four characters, maximum to start. This could be interpreted as four dragonriders, four harpers, four drudges. But really- four, maximum. Anything over that, and you're pushing it. We know you love writing those humongous profiles for as many characters as you can, but being active with them, and writing quality posts for all of them- at the same time in the beginning. Now, that's tough. So, just four to start. Look HERE to see more details.
2. We've covered canon and non-canon, right? CLICK ME! In case you need a refresher. Just in case.
3. Adoptable characters will be placed in the Adoptables subforum. Only characters in this forum may be adopted. PM an admin for adoption permission.

CANDIDATES

1. Only two candidates per Hatching
2. Dragon Candidates can only be between the age of 12 and 21
3. Wher Candidates have no age restrictions
4. We expect all candidate profiles, dragon or wher, to be well written and unique.
5. Last minute candidates will more than likely not Impress. What we mean by ‘last minute’ is candidates made a day or two before a Hatching or even after a Hatching starts.
6. Inactive candidates will also not Impress. You are expected to play your candidate for some time before a hatching. If you don’t play them at all until a Hatching, for whatever reason, you more than likely will not Impress. This applies to both Dragon Candidates and Wher Candidates
7. There is a minimum number of posts that members must make with their candidates to help increase their chances of Impressing. We will not be telling you the minimum and we of the staff will try to keep track of how often you play your candidate. This applies to both Dragon Candidates and Wher Candidates
8. If any Candidate Lessons or official Candidate Chores are posted candidates are expected to post in these threads. This will also help increase your candidate’s chances of Impressing.

WEYRLINGS & WHERLINGS

1. Weyrlings/Wherlings are only gained after a candidate Impresses. They cannot be created.
2. Weyrlings/Wherlings are now required to post in all Lessons. This is mandatory in order to graduate. Posting in the Graduation thread that is usually held is also mandatory.
3. If your Weyrling/Wherling misses a Lesson you are expected to go back and post in it once, especially if they miss more than one lesson.
4. If your Weyrling/Wherling has not posted in at least one lesson, including the graduation, they will be assumed inactive and more than likely be thrown into the ‘Graveyard’ a month after the graduation thread is posted, unless the staff is given a reason for their/your absence.

V. LAWS ON PETS

1. Pets allowed overall are canines, firelizards, and runners.
2. Firelizards are not allowed to be created. They will be hatched to you either at a firelizard hatching or from an egg purchase during Gathers.
3. Herders (Beast Crafters) are allowed to have canines and runners as pets without permission.
4. Candidates are allowed to have canines as pets. Just keep in mind that candidates with canines wouldn't be very common, and a candidate with a runner is very unlikely because runners are afraid of dragons and whers.
5. Dragonriders and Wherhandlers cannot have pet runners. Runners are afraid of dragons and probably whers too, that and there's no point in having a runner then, since even whers can be ridden.
6. Weyrlings can only bond to new firelizards when permission from an admin is given.
7. If you still have questions about pets here on Atricis feel more than free to ask one of the staff members.

IV. LAWS ON HATCHINGS

1. Your Hatchling will be chosen by us (the admins and mods) for you. Name, personality, size it will reach when fully grown, and color. Believe it or not, (we) find it helpful to have all this specified, because then there is no guesswork for you. Of course, personality can be changed, maybe markings will fade- but size. Size will remain as said when Hatched. We keep records. We'll know if you change it.
2. We will put the dragons in a random order, and Hatch them accordingly. It's best to stay on, and stalk the admins for new posts. But you don't have to be online- we don't want you wasting a whole day, maybe just to find out that the right admin isn't online.
3. No specific admin or mod holds your egg. That's all we'll say- its in a random order, not by person.
4. We are totally and completely willing to hatch our little brain-children to NPCs, and then possibly offer them up for adoption- especially if we don't have enough candidates, or if they aren't up to par.
5. Please, please don't hint that you want a specific color of dragon or wher for your candidates in any way, shape, or form. All it really accomplishes is annoying the Administration and getting them to ensure that you don't get that color. To recap; the Administration will give your character the dragon or wher that is right for them, and if you hint at a specific color (either in roleplay or out of character), you will not get it.

V. LAWS ON ADVERTISING AND AFFILIATING

1. If you want to advertise your site, that's fine. That's what the board is for. But, there is one stipulation. We must be able to advertise on your website without having to register. If we can't do that, we will swiftly remove your advertisement, and if you continue to post it regardless, we'll ban you. Simple as that.
2. We love affiliates! DO THE AFFILIATE DANCE! -dances- Yah, um, okay. We are so totally and completely open to affiliating with you that, well, it's not even funny. Trust me. That dance? Not funny. Just weird.
3. Members who don't own their own sites- listen up! We'd would love you forever and ever if you advertised for us. You can't offer affiliations, but soon enough we'll have some html up for you to advertise with that draws other players in, and brings them here. We like new players. You should like new players too- the more the merrier players we have the more activity we have. Capiche?

VI. LAWS ON DRAGONS

1. We run on the meters system. That's all there is to it. Meters.
2. Dragon Flights (capital "F" to symbolize a mating Flight) are always open. Even us admins are required to have open Flights, because it's simply fair that way.
3. You cannot pre-choose who will win your Flight. It's best if you do it on a randomizer and give all the contestants a fair chance, or simply choose the best writer- even if that's not your character's current Weyrmate or love interest. This applies to Admins and Mods as well!
4. Dragons can die anytime you wish- if you can't play them anymore, if you want your character to go insane, really, anything. But, if your rider dies, your dragon dies. There are no questions about it. A dragon will take it's rider's body (if possible), and suicide between. You cannot keep having that dragon if it's rider dies.

VII. LAWS ON WHERS

1. Our whers are smarter than as described in Anne's books- they will be able to form something only vaguely like speech- with the exception of their name, and their handler's name, their vocabulary only reaches small, simple sentences, depending on their color.
2. A wher's name will also change with the person it is bonded to, and the similarity to the human's name is evidence of how strong the bond is. For instance, you have a boy named John. If the wher is only kinda bonded to John, this wher's name might be Josk. If the wher is strongly bonded, it would be Johnsk.
3. Whers Impress/Bond like dragons, only their's isn't quite as random, persay. A wher candidate will receive an egg from the mother wher, and will hopefully bond to the wher that hatches out of it. Much like firelizards, they bond best when fed lots of food and given emotional encouragement.
4. Whers are photophobic, meaning they are afraid of/unable to cope with light, which renders them nocturnal. There is no such thing as a special "day wher".
5. Whers come in all the same colors dragons do, and size varies likewise.
6. You don't need special permission for a wher candidate, or a wher handler, in case you were wondering. For now we are accepting one gold wherhandler and one bronze wherhandler!
7. The sizes of whers are based heavily on this Size Chart. Meaning you cannot create a brown wher the size of a gold or a gold wher of an insanely large size. If such whers were to exist on Atricis they would be given out at hatchings.
8. If for whatever reason you become inactive without proper warning or leave the site your whers will be put up for adoption, not the handlers. This is because whers don't permanently bond like dragons do, so allowing them to be adopted and 'rebond' to another handler is at least somewhat canon. We won't always put whers up for adoption though, but in the case of high ranking whers (golds and bronzes) we almost always will.
---When you wish to adopt a wher you need to make a handler to go with them. You also need to put in the Bio how the handler came across the wher and bonded to them. When you are given permission to adopt the wher you need to make a new profile for said wher and their name needs to be changed to properly match the name of your handler (Part of your handler's name with a 'sk' at the end for those who might be confused. Ex: Samiya and Samisk, Iratus and Irask, etc.)

VIII. LAWS ON FLIGHTS AND RUNS

1. If you are one of the few lucky enough to have a gold dragon, then first of all, congratulations! We deemed you active and capable enough to have the only Clutching dragon color on Pern. But with this comes responsibility. If you want your dragon to Clutch, she must first have a Mating Flight!
2. BUT you can only host a mating Flight of a (GOLD) if you have sent a PM to each of the admins asking for permission. We will work with you on when she can rise, and when she will clutch.
3. Before you even think it, no. No and no. You cannot choose the colors or names or numbers of her babies. That is still our job, even if that is your dragon. You don't even have to be present at the Hatching for them to Hatch. (We'd really like it if you were, but we're not going to wait for you, is what it means.)
4. Oh, and no. Under no circumstances will a green dragon clutch. They will only occur very, veery, rarely and with admin permission. You can have as many green flights as you could ever want. We don't care. You do not need our permission for that.
5. Gold whers are the same--you can only throw your Gold wher into a mating Run with admin permission, and that means having sent a PM to all three admins.
6. You can throw you Green wher into a mating Run, but they will only clutch with admin permission.
7. Green whers are different because they do not chew firestone. If they chewed firestone, it would be the same. The only reason we don't want every green wher clutching is because it's still not completely natural and canon and what not.

IX. LAWS ON ACTIVITY

1. No, we don't mean there's a certain amount of activity you have to have (aka, we're not saying "Post twice a week or you don't count as a member!), but we'd like to clarify some things pertaining to activity.
2. If you are not active, you will not get the hatchling intended for your candidate. We're sorry, but if you are not around to physically (in the internet sense) receive your little baby wher or dragon, than you are not fit to get him/her.
3. If you are inactive for two months or more and you have any high ranking characters (such as wingleaders, wingseconds, etc.) they will be "demoted" from their rank.
4. If you do not log on for six months, then we will promptly delete your account. Your character profiles will be moved to the "Old & Unnecessary Topics", and if you come back, you can't have them back. You'll need to start anew. You can't get a bronze hatchling, disappear for twelve months, and come back and say you still want him. It's just not fair to those who stay active with their characters, and participate in the weyr.
5. We wish that there could be something we could give to the members who stay loyal and active- but there's only one thing. And that's preference. If we have someone around for over six months, being engaged and posting, we're gonna like them a lot more than the sparsely active person who says and does nothing. This doesn't mean we have Admin's Pets, but, active members- we know who you are. And this is a big hearty welcome to those. And you, if you the reader do indeed happen to be browsing these rules in interest of joining. Join, and be active! It's fun! :D

X. LAWS ON NON-PLAYER-CHARACTERS

1. Non-Player Characters, or NPCs, are only for admins and moderators. You can have random drudges, or other dragonriders around- but they can't have names, nor can they play any sort of important part.
2. This includes NPC Healers, NPC Wherhandlers, and NPC Candidate Masters. The admins have created these characters not for you, but for themselves to share the menial duties around the weyr.
3. There are few exceptions to these NPC rules, and those are children of your characters' that are made into temporary NPCs until they are old enough to be played by someone. These NPCs are allowed to be played by members.
4. Very temporary NPCs, ones that aren't considered actual characters and are only used once, are completely ok with us.

XI. LAWS ON OTHER MISCELLANEOUS THINGS

1. Whatever you do, DON'T WHINE. We don't like whiners. In fact, we hate whiners. If you whine, you are a whiner, and you are not in our good graces. You want to be in our good graces, got it?
2. If you misuse Anne McCaffrey's Pern in any way shape or form, you can and will be banned from this site after being given a stern warning if you do it more than once. We don't need people who come on just to say it sucks- or people who take the mature boards to a level that (most) people on here shouldn't be even fathoming. That is misuse. It is not allowed. Definitely not allowed.
