A bright point among the dark abyss
Your strength pulls my spirit on
Lead me onward, great Lord
And light my path with your fire Your Name: AlrekairCharacter #: 4/4
Character's Name: T'bas
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Status: Weyrleader
Wing: Highflight Wing
Weyrmate: Weyrwoman MyrnaFirelizard: Gold Firelizard Kyrala
Dragon: Bronze AlkeiothPersonality: T'bas has always been of the gentler persuasion, and hardly raised his voice to anyone. As a young boy, he always chose the calm and quiet path, steering clear of anyone who caused too much trouble. Though this kind and gentle nature has followed him well into adulthood, the thirteen Turns he's spent as the rider of a bronze dragon have matured him and made him a very respectable leader. He is stern and commanding when the need calls for it, and is often thought of as a natural leader.
Since childhood, T'bas as been jovial and easygoing, a lover of life, so to speak. He is the type of person who will talk with a person just to give them someone to talk to, and tends to make friends relatively easily. His easygoing nature makes him take life as a bit of a light thing, however, and this has been known to cause rifts between him and a few other people. In his early Turns, he was constantly called a lightwing by his younger siblings, mostly because they took life more seriously while T'bas spent his days dreaming of dragons.
Perhaps the most well remembered thing about T'bas is that while he is generally outgoing and carefree, there are some unusual habits that only reveal themselves under certain situations. During times of stress, he has a horrible habit of pacing any room that he's in, mumbling to himself in an almost arbitrary manner. During times of gaiety, such as Hatchings and Gathers, he has a habit of simply grabbing the nearest person and commences dancing with them, which has been known to anger a fair number. Laid-back moments are usually spent either making small pictures in the dirt, bathing Alkeioth, or simply staring up at the sky overhead, seemingly unaware of the world around him. Though T'bas has hardly any trouble making friends, the bronzerider has a tendency to think that he is alone in life, only truly noticed by his dragon.
Around children, T'bas is just like he was in his younger days. He considers children to be regular people like his fellow adults, and as a result the man tries his hardest to instill important life lessons in the young by leading an example for them. He tries to avoid participating in arguments, preferring instead to be the voice of reason to those involved, and will often become either arbiter or unbiased opinion in the matter. He also affects a contagious laugh around the youngsters, doing everything he can to show them that being too serious in life can be as bad as not taking anything seriously.
Appearance: T'bas has one of those ever-jovial faces that is simply too kind to look truly intimidating. His long oval-shaped face is dominated by bright, almond-shaped eyes that seem to glitter from the man's consistant inner humor. The eyes themselves are what he jokingly dubs 'mud-green'; a brownish green in color. Just below these kindly eyes is a straight nose that is a bit too short for his face, giving the man an unfinished look. Gently curving lips of a medium thickness lie beneath the nose, which aids in making his chin appear too long for the rest of his face. T'bas is generally seen with a warm smile, and on the rare occasions that he isn't smiling, he can appear either unusually focused or incredibly clueless, depending on his current actions.
T'bas normally keeps his hair just long enough to brush lightly against his shoulders. However, there are occasions when a month or so of neglecting to cut it will result in a mass of wavy hair that can reach his waist if it's not brought to his attention quick enough. This soft, gently flowing mass is an interesting mix of rust, dirty blond, and light brown that gives it an almost dark sandy red appearance in Rukbat's full gaze. Always cut in a layered fashion, a few locks will usually escape any sort of binds that T'bas puts his hair in to fall along the edges of his face, providing an intriguing frame for the lightly tanned skin and mud-green eyes.
At twenty-seven Turns of age, T'bas is tall at six feet, three inches in height, with a healthy weight of one hundred ninety-nine pounds firmly fleshing out his thin build. Thirteen Turns of riding and caring for his dragon have left T'bas very well-muscled, though he's a bit self-conscious about it. During the hot months of summer, he can be seen flying off on Alkeioth's back during any spare time he manages to get, to have a private swim with his dragon. Other times, when he's swamped with his dragonrider duties, he wears loose, airy fabrics in light shades. As with any rider, Gathers and especially Hatchings are very special, and he is seen during these times in full-length khaki pants and tunics of pale greens or light tans to accent his coloring.
Biography: Born in the bitter winter of Telgar Weyr, this young lad was the final result of a greenflight. His mother, greenrider Basina, was surprised to find out that she was pregnant by brownrider T'lan, and almost went
between to stop the pregnancy before the boy was even born. Fortunately, T'lan managed to talk her out of it, and the two even became weyrmates soon after their first child, a strong son they named Taibas, was born. Two Turns passed before Basina gave birth again, this time to a young beauty named Balaina. Within the next few Turns, two more sons, Tasin and Bailan, were born. By this point, Taibas was well into his tenth Turn, and far enough from his parents that he knew
of the two brothers, but barely spoke to them until Bailan was around five.
The Turns seemed to fly by for the young boy, with relatively little happening until the day he turned twelve. That was the day he was allowed to stand as a candidate for the first time. This ended in failure, which almost broke the boy's spirit as time after time, he was left standing alone. Finally, two Turns later after his initial standing, he watched as his sister, Balaina, Impressed a green dragon. Taibas, sure that this time would end in failure as well, turned and began to head out of the Hatching Grounds, unwilling to see the rest of the dragonets Impress to candidates other than himself. He had just gotten to the cavern door when he felt a strong tug on his robe. The surprised boy was further shocked when he glanced behind him to see a large bronze dragonet pulling at his robe, trying to stop him to feed his Alkeioth.
Weyrlinghood went equally fast for the young bronze pair, and though they more than proved their skills, were finally assigned to a Wing as mere wingriders. The pair enjoyed their position, however, and spent over a decade happily employed by their Wingleader. With the most recent changing of Spring into Summer, however, Telgar's Weyrleaders thought that Alkeioth's bloodline would be best suited to Atricis Weyr, and shipped both bronze and rider off immediately, sending word by firelizard to the Weyrleaders of Atricis.
The months passed, and T'bas grew rather accustomed to life in Atricis, and even grew to love the place soon after arriving. When the Plague hit, he was one of the few in the Weyr who did not contract the illness, and the bronzerider grieved with the rest of Atricis when Athira was lost to the disease. For many days afterward, T'bas had been among the group that decided that they, since they had not grown ill, would help keep the Weyr going in the aftermath of Athira's death.
When golden Shyamath rose in the Spring following the Plague, T'bas was surprised to see Alkeioth rise to the queen's challenge. He was surprised even further when the bronze won, making him the new Weyrleader beside Myrna. He had admired the goldrider for the strength she showed both before and after the Plague, but honestly didn't expect his dragon to win Shyamath's Flight.
