Name: A Hostage Situation

Setting:

Lord Rance, Duke of Essex is well known for having the most beautiful daughter of all the Britons. Less than a week ago, as he was rebuking his daughter, she ran from him in a juvenile fit. The Duke and his servants had begun their pursuit of the young maiden, but she was nowhere to be found.

As dusk approached, one of the Duke's servants came to him, frightened.
"My lord! A ransom for your daughter has been posted on your keep, come quickly!"

The Duke's highest prefect has devised a plan as to recover the lost maiden without having to forfeit any coin: When the ransom is delivered, a small party will follow the person who is to receive the coin. The appointed party will then be able to dispatch the brigands in their hideout after the Duke's daughter has been released so that the coin will be recovered.

In order to attract heroes to his cause, the Duke has offered a small amount of coin (as compared to the amount of the ransom) to any adventurer or party that can bring his daughter back alive.

Description:

I suppose this could be considered a 'classic' what with the Damsel in Distress archetype.

Only when all of the brigands are vanquished and all the coin is recovered can the heroes return to the Duke. Also, to assure that the heroes return, the Duke will collect an item of clothing from each adventurer in order to track them using hunting dogs should they not return.
