Near the University, but far enough from campus to be too long a walk for all but the keenest student, the Last Writes Bookshop caters to all tastes, but especially the fringe and esoterica of rare new and out of print books. Last Writes has been owned by a Jewish family originally from the East Coast for over four generations and is a late-opening bookshop, but not beyond 11 at night.

Visitors can attend concerts under the stars at the magnificent Greek Theatre, study the stars (or the Hollywood sign) at the Griffith Observatory and planetarium or visit the Los Angeles Zoo, the Museum of the American West and a merry-go-round.
