Continued from here.

This kind of thing just doesn’t happen… People don’t just meet people in libraries and try to convince her that vampires exist and then proceed to drive her home when she asks for no other reason then he helps people! This guy is a lunatic and I’m a lunatic for asking him to drive me home and for being interested in him for no apparent reason… Wait! I’m interested in him? Chase blinked at herself and almost didn’t hear what Dean was saying to her. He admitted that he did not indeed help everyone and that he wasn’t sure why he was so intent on helping her and that maybe there was something about her… Of course, Chase had been hoping this was the case but she didn’t actually think that it was the case; Chase turned her head at Dean and blinked at him. There’s something about me, I wonder what there is that is about me… Wait, that thought didn’t make any sense at all.

Chase wasn’t sure what to say to him after that and before she knew it they arrived at her apartment building and Dean was opening her door, offering to take her to her room in the apartment. She didn’t have a lot of time to answer the question, should she let him take her to her door, if she did what would happen? She could just being playing into a trap of this Dean guy and he could still hurt her or worse. She hadn’t made up her mind when she took his offered hand and nodded.

“Yes, thanks… I’m still a little tired…” And she was so tired all she wanted to do was go to bed and she stifled a yawn as they made their way up to her apartment door and she searched in her jacket pocket for her key to the door which was on a key chain that read ‘Don’t interrupt me while I’m talking to myself.’ She unlocked the door and opened it and then turned to Dean to thank him for bringing her here and was about to say goodbye when…

“Would you like to come in?” Chase asked him and immediately starting yelling at herself in her head… YOU STUPID IDIOT! Aw, fuck it… If I die, I die… He doesn’t seem like a bad guy, maybe we’ll just talk and he could tell me more about vampires or something… Chase smiled at him waiting for him to answer. Besides he doesn’t look overly strong I could always kick him where it hurts if he tried anything… Maybe… If I wasn’t so tired… Ugh.

Dean helped Chase get out of the car, his hunch about her still being a little tired proven correct. He made his way straight to her apartment, staying close in case she needed to stop and rest or fell over or something dramatic like that. He was surprised that she even made it into work this morning, but chalked it up to her determination. She definitely wasn’t like your every day librarian that’s for sure.

Soon enough they were at the door to her apartment as Chase searched her pockets for her door key. He gave a small chuckle when he read what was on her keychain, before she opened the door and stepped inside. Alright, now be a good gentlemen, give her your phone number and address to return the favour and wish her well. His good side kept reminding him that he needed to be on his best behaviour. He was here to help this woman, nothing more.

“Would you like to come in?” The question was rather unexpected, and Dean wasn’t sure how to proceed. ”Um, sure.” His inner self yelling at him, he stepped inside and looked around the apartment. It was nice, and he could see the colour scheme throughout the room. ”You have a nice apartment.” He said, complimenting her. He idly wondered what kind of bed she had before snapping his attention back to the present. ”Thanks for inviting me in.”

Chase smiled at Dean again when he said he would come in, she figured he would, he either wanted to kill her or fuck her, Chase couldn’t make up her mind on which though. Chase opened the door wider for Dean to come in after her, when he was in the apartment she closed the door behind him and went to the kitchen to feed to her cats, Sadie and Mads, because she forgot to do so before work this morning. Another indication that I should have stayed home, Chase thought. Mads came running out when she heard the food hit the dish and began meowing madly at Chase, Sadie came along after her in a slower more cat-like fashion. Chase smiled at them and put the cat food away when she heard Dean complimenting her on her apartment.

“Thank you.” She smiled at him. “Would you like anything to drink?” Chase asked him. “I was going to make some tea.” She said as she filled her tea pot with water and put it on the stove turning it on. After this she made her way over to Dean and gestured for him to sit down as she herself sat down on her black sofa. Well, I suppose if he was going to kill me or hurt me or rape me he would have tried something by now. Maybe he’s just biding his time. Chase waited for her water to start boiling and she looked over at Dean and smiled again… Why the hell do I keep smiling at him?

“So…” Chase said for a lack of anything else better to say… She wasn’t sure why she invited him in the first place. She didn’t have many friends and maybe she saw this as a chance to make one or something more… She looked into her room and saw the unmade bed… Yoda, I didn’t do anything before I left for work this morning, Chase sighed.

Dean watched as Chase left to feed her cats, resisting the urge to go over and pet them. He didn’t picture Chase as a cat person strangely enough, even thought it made sense to him now. Dean always was a cat person at heart, although his mother’s allergies prevent him from having one growing up. “Would you like anything to drink? I was going to make some tea.” ”I’ll just have some water thanks.” He wasn’t in a tea mood right now, and was still trying to figure out why he wasn’t freaking out about being in the apartment of someone he met less then an hour ago.

”Your cats are lovely.” He said, not sure what else to say while waiting. He sat down next to her on the black couch, getting comfortable before looking at her and smiling back. If it wasn’t for the fact she was normal to the sight, I could swear she was planning on eating me. Banishing the paranoid thoughts, he noticed the bite marks on her neck again, his edge continuing to make them stand out more against her pale skin. The fact that he could see the effects of her heartbeat calmed him down somewhat, but it was still slightly unnerving.

”So…have you lived in LA long?” He could tell she wasn’t a native to this part of the country, and he put her accent as being somewhere north of the border, although it wasn’t as profound as Canadian accents in the media. Still he wasn’t an expert on the matter by any stretch of the word and he could be dead wrong. But at least he was making conversation, in some small way.

Chase watched Dean closely but tried to make it seem like she wasn’t staring, she wasn’t sure if she was succeeding or not because she couldn’t think straight because she was go tired. Her energy seemed to be draining more and more as the day wore on and she thought when she got up in the morning that it would happen the opposite way, as the day wore on she would get some of her energy back. Then again, she had been wrong about things more than usual today, so she assumed the lack of energy was causing that or at least that’s what she hoped.

Dean remarked that he just wanted some water and she nodded at this but continued to sit on the sofa until her water started to boil, she wasn’t going to make any unnecessary trips seeing as she was quite depleted of energy as it was. When Dean finally sat down he complimented her cats. Chase eyed him for a second to make sure he was serious and then she smiled again before getting up and making her way over as to the kitchen area as she heard her water starting to boil, she didn’t say anything to him, however.

Once in the kitchen she got out a mug with a cat on it that her aunt had given her one year for Christmas back when she was still in Nova Scotia. She also got out a glass. Chase put a green tea bag in her mug and then poured some of the boiling water into it before going to the fridge and taking out the pitcher she kept water in and pouring water in the glass for Dean. After putting the pitcher of water back in the fridge she picked up her tea and Dean’s water and came back over to the sofa and set the mug and glass on coaster’s that sat on the coffee table in front the sofa before she sat down again.

Once she sat down again Dean asked her how long she had been living in L.A. Chase looked at him and then preceded to pick up her cup and blow on the hot tea before she took a small sip to see how hot it was and if she could drink it yet. It was still quite hot so she set it back on the coaster. She still wasn’t sure what to make of this Dean fellow…

“Almost three years, I believe, why?” Chase asked. She didn’t think how long she lived here had anything to do with convincing her vampires existed which she supposed was part of the reason she decided to invite him in to see what else he would tell her if he would tell her anything else… She started to wonder what he thought the reason was that she invited him in, seeing as he was starting with small talk. He said there was something about me, Chase thought, ah… I get it. Chase smiled to herself slightly, she was pretty sure she was right this time, even though she had been wrong about this particular young man many times before in just one day. I wonder how old he is…

Okay, maybe she’s not supernatural. Maybe she’s just a cannibal and is figuring out the best way to cook me. Between the staring and the smiling Dean wondered just what exactly he was here for. He hadn’t forgotten that Chase was attacked by a vampire, but it seemed that the mood here was a lot more casual then that. It felt like they were just two friends having a casual get-together. The fact that he met Chase less then an hour ago only made the situation more awkward.

As she got up to get their drinks he took a moment to look around the room and take in all the sights. He ended up looking through her bedroom door and spotting her unmade bed. It seemed to stand out in comparison to the rest of her apartment; he would have picked her for the type to make her bed every morning after waking up. He closed his eyes, knowing full well that it made no difference as long as Discern was activated. He looked around the room a bit more, his eyes finally settling on Chase and her coffee cup. A real cat person this one.

He picked up the glass of water and took a sip, all without opening his eyes. ”Thanks.” He quickly realised that he still had his eyes closed and opened them up to try and put her at ease. ”Sorry, seeing through my eyelids makes it hard to tell the difference between keeping them open or closed.” He got comfortable as she answered his question about how long she had been in LA for.

“Almost three years, I believe, why?” Dean hadn’t been expecting the question at the end, and had to search his memory as to why he was asking. ”Um, just curious. I noticed your accent before and was wondering where you were from.” Way to go Dean. Why don’t you ask her what her favourite colour is while you hit on her? He couldn’t deny that he was hitting on her in some small way, even though he had come here to help her deal with vampires. Why can’t I do both? If he had of said that aloud he would have hit himself in the head for such an idiotic suggestions, instead he just offered a smile back to Chase as he waited to see what she would do.

Lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic... Chase took a deep breath and exhaled slowly hoping Dean wouldn’t notice and continued with her thoughts… Lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic, lunatic… He’s a lunatic and I should ask him to leave, right? Right… Chase sighed.

She didn’t like the questions he was asking her, if he was trying to convince her vampires existed and she was indeed attacked by the vampire he should be asking her what she remembered last night and a little more about how she felt and maybe some details about these so called vampires. That does not really exist.

Even though she didn’t like the questions he was asking her she answered them anyway, although she did ask why he was asking her in the first place, seeing as how long she lived here had nothing to do with vampires and her being supposedly attacked by a vampire. That doesn’t exist.

She stopped looking at him and started looking at her cup, she didn’t want to look at him anymore, she wanted to go to bed and close her eyes and go to sleep and wake up and realize that this never really happened and that she had never met this lunatic. Vampires do not exist.

Chase yet again almost didn’t hear what Dean had to say about why he asked her how long she was living in L.A, she went from caring what he thought about her to not caring in a matter of seconds or maybe she was just trying to convince herself she didn’t care. Dean told her that he was curious because he noticed her accent and wondered where she was from. Chase quirked an eyebrow at her mug and still didn’t look at Dean. I don’t have an accent.

Did she really want to tell him where she was from? She didn’t know but she heard herself answering his question anyway…

“Canada.” She told him tonelessly still looking at her mug waiting rather impatiently for her green tea to cool.

“Why do you want to know where I’m from?” She asked. “And what does it matter what kind of accent I have?” She asked again before letting him answer either question or even remark on the fact that she was from Canada.

The first sign that Dean received about something being wrong was when she stopped staring at him and focused on her coffee mug. The second sign was when she raised her eyebrow at the coffee mug when he mentioned her accent. She must be regretting bringing me here. He guessed that he misread her intentions a moment ago, or she had just changed her mind very recently.

“Canada.” There was no hint of a tone at all in her voice, a fact which disturbed Dean and played on his uncertainty. “Why do you want to know where I’m from? And what does it matter what kind of accent I have?” Now he found himself on the defensive, and a slip-up here could cause him to be hastily ejected from the apartment and Chase’s life.

”I just wanted to learn a little bit more about you, since you invited me into your apartment. It seemed like a better conversation starter then talking about vampires.” He shifted in his seat, noticing that she still wasn’t looking at him. He paused for a moment, before deciding to get down to business quickly before she could change her mind about the whole affair. ”So, what exactly happened last night?”
