Diana had to smile to herself as she rode out from the small cothold. It was a lovely day, warm and wonderful. She had a small picnic basket tied down to the back of her runner's saddle and the mare was more than willing to work with the side saddle that she used. She looked up at the morning sky as she pulled up, finding the perfect spot, it was along one of the cliffs a ways away from the hold and she was looking forward to a little break away from the same thing day after day. Thread wasn't due to fall for a couple days, and even if it was, what was life without a little adventure?

Safira sat underneath one of the trees in the area, a scowl on her face. She sighed, blowing some of her long bangs out of her face. The sun seemed to mock her, beaming down like it was. First her mother complained about her needlework, then her father yelled at her for getting dirty in the vineyards. When her second eldest brother teased about her rumpled dress she had enough and bolted. Of course, like usual it wasn't too far from home. She knew she would have to return sometime, and get scolded like usual. She hated the idea of marriage, of being a housewife. Sure the young girl could cook and clean decently enough, but she was horrid at needlework and the like. Safira wished she could just stay at home, she knew wine-making well, even knew some tricks that her brothers didn't know. Instead she's getting sent off to do womanly things like having babies and making clothes. Why couldn't she just run away for good?
"Cos you'd get eaten by a feline, that's whot," Safira answered herself, trying to come up with other alternatives to her dilemma. Too bad those Teaching Ballads never said anything about how to get away from your family, eh? Safira thought with a smirk.

She tilted her head at the sight, remembering the Vinter's daughter at least by sight if not as a good friend. Well, why not? She didn't mind company that much as long as she didn't mock her for being herself. "Hail...Saffira isn't it?" She slid off of the runner, smoothing out her skirts as she did, "I did not expect my picnic spot to be occupied but more is the merrier no?" She smiled and tilted her head, her two colored eyes focusing on the young woman, ignoring the dirty dress.

Safira jumped as she was roughly brought back to reality. She was so out of it, at first she thought the voice belonged to her mother. Recognizing the young woman, Safira stood up. "Ah! Miss Diana, I didn' see you there," Safira's face went red as she brushed at her dress, futilely trying to make her dress a little more presentable. The girl always thought that Diana pretty. The young woman was always graceful, nothing out of place regardless where she was at, the complete opposite to the herself in Safira's opinion. "I... I'm sorry I don' mean to intrude," Safira stuttered.

She smiled and shook her head, "You didn't intrude, I was looking for a place that was pleasant to sit and eat." She grabbed her basket and spread out the blanket a bit, "I always pack more than I should for myself so come on, sit down." She patted the blanket as she sunk to the ground, adjusting her skirts. "Half of a pleasant location is the company no? Unless you think my company is not to your liking." She smiled up at her and opened a bottle of something that smelled vaguely like berry juice.

Safira sat down on the blanket. "No Miss Diana, I like your company," The girl blushed. She looked around, taking in the beauty of the landscape. Safira always seemed to come here more often than not when she had to get away from her family. "It is rather pretty here, i'n' it," she whispered.

Diana had to nod, "Yes, it is. Even with the threat from the Red Star." For once she spat, very un-lady like at the mention of the baleful red speck in the sky. "Here...try some of these, the cook made them fresh this morning!" She pulled out a meat pasty still warm and smelling fresh and handed it over, shoving her hair out of her face with the other hand and winking.

"Down there...look at that, mine." Leth craned his slender neck as he and his rider flew high overhead, the wind still slightly warm even at this height. Seana peered over his shoulder, but could only make out a couple of dark shadows. She sent Leth a query, and he replied by flashing her the image of what he could see: two girls, sitting conveniantly out in the open, without anyone else around.
"Well spotted." Seana felt a little grim, but something in her was still enjoying this whole exercise. "Pass it back to Reith?"
"It is done." Leth banked, then dipped his wing and swooped one way, then the other, the mobile dragon enjoying the flight as much as his rider. Seana grinned into the wind, and set her sights on the two. This was looking easier than she thought it would be.

We have targets, mine Reiath rumbled up at J'som who was circling a slightly different area. When he got the request to show him, he passed the image on that Leth had sent him.
Ah, a'aight, follow them down. He loosened his knife in his sheath, he wouldn't attack the girls, but one never knew who might come up behind them. Reiath, are we really stealing people for that begreened crazy man that leads us?
Yes, mine was the dragon's reply as they followed the other blue down.

"Tha... thank you," Safira stammered, taking the meat pasty. She was a bit surprised at its warmth. Diana knew how to keep things at a nice temperature. The vintner's daughter was surprised at Diana's reaction to the Red Star. Instead of putting her off, it made the girl more comfortable. She might be more like her than she thought. As she took a bite out of the pasty something in the sky caught her eye, a weird pair of shadows.
"Whot's that?" Safira asked, swallowing the meat in her mouth.

Diana looked up in the direction she pointed, raising a hand to cover her eyes, "I'm not sure..." She leaned forward a bit as if that would truly help, "Perhaps a couple of riders from a nearby weyr on patrol?" She took another bite of her pasty, the hand away from Safira dropping down to brush along her hip, glad she had worn the knife under the skirts after all. They could just be riders on patrol, but if they were like the ones she had been told about. She shuddered, she refused to become some woman catering to a dragon-man's whim.

Seana and Leth landed a short way away, gliding down smoothly with hardly any down draft to speak of as Leth kept his momentum to trot. She quickly unbuckled the straps from around her legs, and slid most of the way off, hanging onto them as Leth walked. She grinned: her eyes were hard to see behind her flying goggles. "Afternoon, ladies. Nice day, innit?" She hopped down, trusting Jas to take the other side. "We're on search ride. Ever fancied being a dragonrider?"

J'som and Reiath landed beside them and he slid down to the arch of the neck sitting there as the blue walked up beside Leth. "Think 'o the excitement" His eyes twinkled a bit as he took in both of them, though he had to restrain his comments. I am so giving Seana hell for this when we get back, look at em Rei, to pretty little things for the wench
Reiath snorted his response and shook off J'som who rolled and came up to standing, his hat askew and the goggles gone completely.

Diana's head came up as she stood, her jaw stiffening, "No, I suppose we both do not fancy that, dragon-men." Her reply was formal if not cold, her mismatched eyes narrowed as she looked at them, she moved slightly, not trusting them or their beasts, stepping in between Safira and them both.

"Oi. No need to get all defensive on us. Think about it." Seana circled a bit trapping them in a circle of dragon and riders. "No need to worry about food, everyone right round showing you respect. You might even impress the queenie." She caught J'som's eye.
"One, two, three..." Leth began a countdown to when they would go and grab them, broadcasting to J'som as well.

Safira dropped her pasty when the two dragons and their riders landed. Then one of the two men started talking about being on a search for new riders. Honestly the young girl never thought of it. Part of her wanted to go, it was just the thing to get her away from being the "lady" that her mother was so desperately trying to mold her to be. But she didn't like the look of these men, nor these large dragons that seemed to almost pace around them.
