The streets were cold as the late night poured over the town. Celeste walked the streets before moving towards the club. A little drink after her first day would do her good, help her calm her nerves a bit. She had done little and left much behind her. She needed to do more. But that would wait until the next day, when she could go around in daylight and see what she was doing.

There was no moon hanging in the sky this night, no light shining on the streets but that of the street lamps. She walked to the door, her hair a deep black and shining blue as she opened the door and walked in. She held her cloak tighter around her as she walked in, gripping the book that she also held in her arms.

She slowly walked in, her eyes traveling from the occasional drunk passed out against the wall to the other drunks, wandering around and leaning against tables, trying to coax the women in the bar to have a drink with them or do other things. The woman's eyes rolled as she grinned softly, walking up to the far corner of the bar and sitting down on a stool, placing her book on the bar as she began untying the cloak around her neck.

He stiffled a yawn as he entered the building. "Man that Ruby sure knew what she was doing. I haven't had a night like that in a long time." He looks around he stops when his nose picks up a familiar scent. Looking around further he could not see the man the sent belonged to. "He's not here, then where?" he then spies a young woman sitting at the far end of the bar pulling off her cloack and a black book in front of her. "It's coming from her?"

He walked up slowly to her noticing that several of the drunks were eyeing her body. Judging from her scent she was a very capable lycan, but so were plenty of these drunkards. What kind of male would he be if he let a female get abused by so many others. He walked up to her and sat down beside her his right eye taking her in through a sideways glance.

"Exuse me young lady," he said turning to her a gentle smile on his lips. "But would you terribly mind if I bought you a drink?"

Finally untying the cloak from her neck, she moved it and placed it in her lap, revealing her somewhat tight longsleeved shirt. The sleeves reached well over her hands, a sort of comfort to her. The neckline was cut somewhat low, stopping just under her collar bone. She glanced back at the book as she caught a whiff of someone new walking into the bar, her head wanting to turn to see who it was but her body not letting it. It was, after all, rude to stare.

Her head snapped to her left as a drunken male slammed into the wall near her, spilling his beer all over the floor and himself. She flinched, leaning away from him slightly as he stood up and shook himself, beer flying around him and nearly landing on her. He turned his head to her and gave her a big, toothy grin as he started to step forward, looking past her and stopping before stepping back and passing out on the floor.

The man sat next to her at the bar and spoke, stealing her attention from the snoring man to him. She looked at him, recognizing him as the man that had just previously walked in. She gave him a soft smile as he spoke, shaking her head slightly. "I wouldn't mind at all. That would be great. Thank you." Her smile was warm and welcoming, the smile she used when she often met someone for the first time. Her hands were on her lap lightly, holding the cloak so it didn't fall to the ground.

He turned to bartender and who said what'll it be. James though about it for a moment then comeing to decision. "How about a nice bottle of wine." He turned his attention back to the young woman sitting next to him. He extended his hand and warm smile in her direction.

"The name is, James. What's yours?"

The man on her left had now resumed consciousness and was standing up against the wall, his hand on his head. He lifted the beer glass to his mouth before looking down at it and slamming it on a nearby table. His eyes turned to look over at Celeste and James before he stepped up, about to walk up to the two of them. Before he had a chance to blurt something out, however, he bent over just behind their seats, vomitting on the ground, some of it splashing up and landing on the back of Celeste's leg as well as James'.

Cringing, Celeste grabbed a napkin and reached down, wiping it away as he spoke. He mentioned wine and she nodded, smiling at him before she crumpled the napkin in her hands and tossed it behind the counter and directly into the trashcan. She rubbed her leg against her other to get the feeling off as he held his hand out to her. She took it in hers, her grip slightly firm but light, gentle. Shaking his hand she smiled.

"I am Celeste. It's a pleasure to meet you, James."

"A pleasure meeting you Miss. Celeste," he was slightly surprised at her strength yet gentiality. This was definetly a woman who deserved respect.

As the drunken man stopped vomiting he looked up at Celeste and a dark smile crossed his lips. "Hey there pretty lady. How's about you and me have some fun tonight." He placed his filthy hand on her arm. What happened next was like a flash. If you hadn't been standing just a couple of feet away you wouldn't have been able to tell what happened.

If there was something that James prided himself on, one thing above everything else was that he was a gentle man. And a gentle man would not allow a drunken bastard lay anything else upon a woman. James gripped the man's wrist and you could hear the sound of cracking bones at the pressure he applied. The drunkard howled in pain his legs buckling. But James was far from done releasing the man's wrist he picked him up by the collar and said in a low voice more like a growl than anything else.

"Filth like you have no right to touch a woman." With that said James through him clear across the bar to slam upside down against the far wall with a sickening crack. Sitting down he took the bottle of wine that had been placed before them during his little show and poured Celeste a glass, then himself and holding his up. "So sorry about that."

The drunken man's hand on her shoulder caused her to twitch as she looked at his hand. She raised her head to look at him and the toothy grin, same as before. She was about to say something back to him before James had grabbed his wrist and she heard the crack of bones next to her ear. She shuddered from the sound, only having heard it from an animal and never a man, especially one his size.

She heard the bottle and glasses being set down but her eyes were glued to the scene playing out just in front of her. She winced as she heard the crack as he slammed against the wall, her head tilting down slightly as she felt a similar feeling in her back, as if it had happened to her. She turned her head to see James pouring the glass and she smiled, taking it from him and shaking her head. "No. I'm glad you did it. I've never been able to hurt a drunk." She put her glass against her leg and looked down at it, smiling slightly before looking back up at him.

"You're a real gentleman, sticking up for me like that. Thank you."

“It was my pleasure,” he said taking a drink from his glass. “Though I’m sorry for doing that in front of you.”

He had seen her reactions to the sounds of cracking bones. “I didn’t realize that his bones breaking would un-nerve you like that.” He waited and listened to her words before looking down at the book in front of her. “What book is that?”

Smiling, Celeste nodded her head to him and lifting the glass to her lips, taking a small drink before putting it back down on the counter. Her eyes drifted to look at him as he spoke, lifting her glass to her lips and taking another sip before nearly taking in too much, putting it down and covering her mouth as she shook her head. "Oh, no. They didn't really bother me. It was just a surprise how different it sounded when indoors and from a man his size. As for the breaking of the back, I could just feel it is all."

Her soft, blue eyes looked down at her glass as she swirled the red liquid around. She then heard him speak and looked up at him, looking back down at the book and moving a hand to it, lifting it up to show him the cover. Elegant gold letters were printed onto the leather cover, spelling out "Diary of a Lycan." She placed it down on the counter between them, the cover up. "I got this book when I arrived here by the man from the book store. He was so nice, gave me the book free of charge. Not like I could have paid for anything; I don't have a job yet and have limited funds at the moment." She looked down at her lap as she said it, but raised her gaze to the window beside her. "I'll get by though."

He looked down at the book as she showed it to him and his featured softened a bit. "I haven't seen that book in a long time." Then he laughed when she told him of the man at the bookstore. "Hahahaha, that sounds just like, him. He always did have a soft spot for a pretty face." He smiled at her before draining his glass and pouring himself a second glass.

He watched her as she gazed out the window. He didn't know why, but the following actions were beyond his concious control. "Well if you need any help.... Just tell me if I'm being to forward with this, but I've got a room rented over at the L’Auberge De Sleepless." He placed his glass down on the bar and held his hands up defensively. "Now I know what kind of place that is, don't take it the wrong way. If you need a roof over your head for awhile you can stay with me for a bit. You can have the bed. It's got a nice sized couch so you don't have to worry about putting me out."

He took up his glass again as he waited for her response. As he waited he watched the other patrons of the bar. He noticed several people were now milling around the man he had thrown and some were looking back in their direction. He took a deep breath before releasing it and sighed. "Looks like things are about to get out of hand."

Her eyes traveled back to the book as James talked about it, smiling. He hadn't seen the book in forever, and yet it was she that had just gotten it. It was strange to her that she would receive a book that seemed to have not been read in a while, but she didn't press the matter. She smiled and nodded her head as he spoke of the bookstore owner. As he made his last comment, however, she couldn't help the slight blush that crossed her face as she turned away, bringing the glass to her lips and taking another drink.

Her eyes were still looking outside the window when he began speaking of the inn, but she slowly turned her head to look at him. "Stay, with you?" She paused and put her glass down on the counter, turning to look at him more. "You would really let me?" She smiled softly before looking back at her glass.

"Of course, it would only be for a short time, I mean, I'd be kicking you out of your bed, even though you're paying for it, and I can't..." She stopped and looked over at him, a sheepish smile on her face. "I'm going off, aren't I?" She turned and looked back at the glass, running her finger along the top of it and causing a soft sound to be produced. "I'd... be really glad to stay there." She turned her head. "At least, until I can get a place of my own."

Her eyes flashed in the direction of the group of men. She saw their eyes on them and their mouths moving quite rapidly, and then she knew what they were talking about. She turned to look back at him. "James, I do suggest we leave before things get," she paused as the men started walking towards them, "out of hand."

"I think its a little late to get out of here before things get out of hand, Miss Celeste," James said as the men walked up to them. James counted about six with his eyes, but from their smell their smell there were a few more of them around and these guys weren't human.

"Hey, man, that was our friend you just threw across the bar," said a short dark haired man.

"Oh, he was, was he?" James asked smiling. "Well then you should tell him to behave himself when he gets up."

"Thats just it man," the same guy said sticking his finger in James' chest. "I don't think he's going to get back up." He bared his teeth to reveal elongated canines. "And now we're going to take it out on the two of you." He turned to Celeste his finger still pointing, but before he could make a move towards her James grabbed the mans finger and bent it back with a loud snap the man howled in pain.

"Leave the girl out of this," he growled his teeth bared aswell. "Your fight is with me. Lets take this out side." James stepped off the stool and took off his coat and offered it to Celeste. "Miss Celeste if you would be so kind to hold onto this for me. Shall we gentleman?"

James walked behind the six men out of the door to the club and five more followed them out. It was quiet for several minutes, then there was a loud defening roar and several yelps of pain. Suddenly a body crashed through a window, the body of a lycan reverting back to human. It was the short man from the conversation a few moments ago.

She was about to ask why he thought that when she turned and saw the men walking right up to them. She leaned against the bar top a bit, turning on the stool to face the oncoming men. She could smell the alcohol on them, as well as the sweat. Her eye twitched slightly as she raised her hand to her nose and brushed a finger under it calmly and swiftly. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw one of the men glance at her and she smiled politely, putting her hand back in her lap. Seconds later she began to lean further back against the bar when he took a step closer to her.

Looking to the short man talking to James, she listened in, keeping half of her attention on the other five men around them. She could feel the man closest to her breathing down her neck and she absently raised her hand and put it on her neck, rubbing it slightly before looking at the finger moving towards her. Her eyebrow raised before she saw James' hand grab the finger and bend it back, the sickening crack causing the hair on the back of her neck to stand up. She twitched slightly and turned her head a bit before looking back to James as he gave her his coat. "Umm, sure." She hung it over her lap and watched them as they left the bar.

Curiosity got the better of her and she stood, grabbing her book off the counter and standing. She took a couple of steps toward the door. Just as she did, Celeste jumped and pressed her back against the wall as the man flew through the window. She watched his body transform back to its human state and then she looked through the window, taking a few steps forward to look through it. She saw another man stagger back, half-way through transformation, before her eyes caught the group of lycans battling. Her eyes then fixed on the one in the middle, the largest of them all. The one she knew as James.

Even though he himself had not fully transformed he was still by far larger than the others. He let out another defening roar and swung his right arm knocking away one of the lycans as if he were a fly. Then as two lept upon his back he grabbed them by their necks and through them against the wall of another building, the walls cracking under the impacts. Another attacked from his left biting down on his arm, James didn't even howl in pain he simply grabbed the beasts head and yanked it off his arm his own flesh tearing away with it blood splattering the ground. He then slammed the beast into the ground with a sickening crunch.

The battle raged for only moments claw and fangs flashing, then as soon as it had started it was over. James stood in the center of a ring of defeated lycans and he slowly began to transform to his full human form. He fell to his knees panting. "Damn I lost more blood than I thought." He staggered to his knees his vision blurred slightly he smelled the air and smiled to himself. True most of them were hurt severly but non were dead. He didn't kill needlessly, sure maim someone was just fine. He turned to the club holding his bleeding arm and noticed Celeste standing in the doorway. He smiled at her.

"Sorry, to keep you waiting."

Celeste watched the scene play out in front of her. Each time a lycan hit the ground, Celeste felt a chill run up her back. When the lycan bit into his arm, she couldn't help but put her hands over her mouth. She could feel a tingling sensation on her own arm, the exact spot that James had been bitten on. Her hands lowered and she wrapped a hand around her arm as she winced when she saw his skin pulled away. The crunch that came from the lycan seconds later caused another cull to run down her back.

All of them now in their human form, Celeste could see the damage he had done to them all. Some of them, she could see, had broken limbs, some of the bones sticking out. Her eyes were glued to the wounds, seeming to analyze each of them in her own way. She then looked up at James, dropping her book and his coat and running over to him as she saw him stagger to his feet. She stopped just in front of him and smiled back at him slightly before looking at the wound on his arm.

"Don't be sorry about keeping me waiting, it's fine. How's your arm?" She asked, turning her head to look back up at him as she stood before him.
