The hall was dark. Only the long shadow cast by Rie's motionless form, a mere silhouette in the flickering candlelight streaming from a half-open door, gave any idea that she was there. She made no sound, no movement, not even a twitch to give any sign that she was conscious. That is, who would even know if she was conscious, her breathing was shallow, her pulse faint. Traditional Human medicine would be useless in the case of the Vampire, she was undead anyway. Human terms of "coma", "sleep" and "consciousness" were of no use here, they could not apply to one of her kind. Who would even know if she died, she was a ghost, a Night Devil, invisible when she wanted, a terror when disturbed. Who would wake her to make sure she was still, in her own way, "alive"? Nobody sane would.
Her hands burnt as she struggled to untie the ropes, his screams still echoing in her ears. The Sun had almost gone, but it was still strong enough to hurt her. The skin greyed and began to crack. She struggled harder with the knots that help the ashen remains of her Master, not daring to believe he was gone. No, it couldn't be. It must be some kind of trick. He couldn't be dead. He was much too clever, he had promised that Death could never touch either of them. He lied. Despair turned to anger. She threw a punch at the ashy head, not hard, but it disintegrated at her touch. It was true. Her Master was dead. As suddenly as it had come, her anger evaporated. It was replaced by a deep sense of lonliness, confusion, and despair. What would she do? Where would she go? He had controlled everything in her life for over five hundred years, he had been her Master for as long as she could remember. She had been Human before that, she knew, but she could not remember what that was like. And even if she did, what would she do with it? Pity herself at her Damnation? No, Rie was incapable of self-pity. Her Master had long ago killed that in her. She could feel pain clawing at her back now, the Sun was still strong enough to get to her. She gave over to the Blackness, hoping, wishing, that Death would take her just as it had taken her Master... The black-clad form of Rie turned slightly as it lent against the wall. Her eyelids twitched, as though they were about to open, but remained shut. A series of small twitches ran all the way down her body, as her dream continued. Not so much a dream, as a memory. A memory that threatened to drown Rie, to drag her into its infinite depths and hold her there forever. The memory of not only her Master's death, but of being alone for the first time in almost one thousand years. The feeling of being alone, like when a little child is lost and cannot find their family. They stare around hopelessly, until their mother comes and takes them hope in a warm embrace. Only there would be no going home. There would be no warm embrace. Slowly the pain was returning. Rie cursed it, just as she cursed all the world. She did not know where she was? Was she dead? Or had somebody rescued her? Had somebody seen her limp form slumped beside the small pile of her Master's ashes? Had they taken pity on her, or where they simply keeping her to kill later? Rie didn't know. If she had known better, she might have been scared. If her Mastr had not effectively killed all feeling within her, she might have been sad. But she wasn't. She was shocked, and confused. Chocked that He could leave her so suddenly. What had happened to "together forever"? Where had "the is no Death" gone? Rie had no idea, and that lead to her confusion. Where was she? What was she to do? Rie tried to turn over, and was met with s sharp stab of pain. She yelped, and immediately chastised herself for it. How could you be so weak? You know He will punish you for that. Then she remembered. He was gone. she had not forgotten, but the habit of reprimanding herself in her Master's name for five hundred years had caused her to momentarily forget. Why did she hurt so much? It was like a stinging, a gnawing, on her back, like some kind of acid had been applied to her skin and was burning it off. She closed her eyes, opening them again when she heard movement to her right. Slowly, painfully, she turned her head. "Ah, good, you're awake. The pain I know you feel is the result of Sunlight. If you will lie around in Daylight, you will be burned." The speaker seemed to be a Vampire, or at least know much about them. Rie took several deep breaths before speaking. "Where am I?" She was amazed that she could speak at all. But even that small exertion drained her, and the blackness overwhelmed her once again... The body of Rie turned slightly once more. It was the first dream she had had in over five hundred years. -------------------- From the creator of great and wonderful characters such as Rie, Amara Lei, Lucinda Imation, and Dante Posterus comes... An odd wolf stood at the man's side, looking into his eyes. Ravior licked his master's hand at the approaching daylight. "Shouldn't you take her inside?" the wolf questioned him. The man looked to his companion and stated through telepathy, "It is her decision, not mine, Ravior." The hound simply nodded and turned back to the door at the edge of the stairway.
Sarion, the headmaster of the school, looked upon her, deciding on what to do. "Well, you are on a staircase, m'dear, one that is outside of the school. But, how you got here, I haven't the slightest idea." He had spoken without realizing she went unconcious. The sunlight was coming closer and even starting to crack his skin too. Sarion rubbed his chin with his forefinger and thumb. His large crimson trench coat swayed in a gentle breeze. Sarion draped it from his shoulders, letting it slide down his arms lazily. He removed it, and covered her bare skin that had begun to crisp. Though, it did leave him mostly unprotected, since all he wore under it was a sleeveless black shirt and black slacks. The sword’s sheath was visible now. "Now it’s your choice love... Nevermind, you're out like a light. Fine, you can make your decision later I guess." Sarion bent over and picked her up quickly. He motioned to the door that Ravior was standing at with haste. Sarion's large foot kicked it open, stepped in, and watched it slam behind him. |

{OOC: sorry if this post is rather dodgy, I have one that was over a thousand words and then I lost it!}
A door slammed. It was faint, as though coming from far away. She wondered at it, wondered who had slammed it, and why. She was dimly aware of the fact that she was no longer slumped against a wall at the top of the staircase she had fallen asleep on, but was not yet awake enough to discern exactly where she was. She could tell that she was inside from the stillness of the air, but whether she was alone or in company remained unknown. A sharp pain was clawing at her. A pain she had felt before. She knew what it was and what caused it, but why she felt it baffled her. It could not be anytime near the Sunrise, not yet. The Sun had only just gone down when she had sat on the staircase, she could not have slept that long. She put out her hand to push herself up off the floor, but it met only air. Her eyes snapped open, bright blue. Her gaze seemed to pierce everything, flesh and soul. She was instantly awake. A man was holding her, possibly hostile. He seemed to be Vampire, she could barely hear a heartbeat and there was almost no body heat coming from him. She quickly assessed her position. It did not seem to be a good one. She was being held by an unknown person, possibly captive. She was almost completely unarmed. This would not have normally been a problem, but she was also weakened by exposure to the sun. Was that intentional? Had the man holding her put her into the sun for long enough to weaken but not kill her? She gasped as a rush of pain ran through her. {Yeah, it's not as good as I had hoped, or as my other post was.} -------------------- From the creator of great and wonderful characters such as Rie, Amara Lei, Lucinda Imation, and Dante Posterus comes...
