3. The name is tidied up , if needed.
Dust clouds are made by using a wet brush and a tiny-tiny bit of Hormagaunt Purple. Soft curved shapes are painted , when dry , the same step is repeated to give depth to the clouds.
[On this model I did 3 or 4 layers of cloud , over each other.]
Dots of Red Gore , Ultramarines Blue and Fiery Orange , are painted all over the base.

4. Red dots are then highlighted with Blood Red , Blue with Hawk Turquoise , and Orange with Golden Yellow.

5. The 3rd highlight comes from Fiery Orange , Ice Blue , and Bad Moon Yellow.
The larger of the dots are then highlighted again with Skull White.
Smaller dots of Skull White are then placed around to fill empty gaps.

While i used purple for the dust clouds in this tutorial , i've done the same effect very well with Fortress grey , on my Imperial Ships.

Probably any colour could be used to get the clouds , a mix of grey and red layers might make for an interesting visual.

For the stars , i stuck with reds , blues and yellows , primary colours , which all highlight up to white.

Other colours could be use , but to my knowledge , there aren't any visible green stars.
Something to experiment with.

Cheers all.

1) Get a toothbrush. If you use the wife's one, prepare for doom.
2) dip it in slightly watered down White paint
3) run your finger ofer the bristles directly over your base
4) afterwards, do what you just did with the pretty colours

This would work well , however you wouldn't get the depth of colour , as none of them would highlighted.
Could always go back and add other things , like the dust cloud , after the initial tooth-brushing.

It is however much much faster.

Best done before painting the model if it's glued to the base , else you'll splatter your nicely finished ship !

You don't need it. The toothbrush method makes hundreds of tiny dots. It looks like the stars look like from space, not from earth where only the brightest few shine
