Title: Size Comparisons: W40k Vs Multiple Others

hammerbolt - October 31, 2011 01:45 PM (GMT)
Hello folks

Some time ago, I tried to make one more conversion of non-40k bits into IG equipment. And I spent severall hours searching, not just for bits, but for a way to compare sizes... again.

I got fed up... so I've decided to build a gallery of size comparisons of non-w40k models with w40k models, with an emphasis on armour, to use as baseline in future conversions. You can see what I've found so far in the following link:

Scale and size comparisons

I'll keep posting whenever I find new pics. Meanwhile, if anyone wants to contribute, send me images, or post here, and I'll add them to the gallery. This way, we'll all have a 1-stop reference, no need to search half the Internet for this.

PS: if you want credit for the photo, let me know.

is a sentinel and a robogear... T rex.. for your use..a bit blurry.

Another thing to account is the size of the historical vehicle you want to use. Some Work better at 72nd ,others 48th yet other at 35th.
Smaller vehicles you want a lower number larger vehicles a larger number.

Some past exp
British Universal carriers at 35th scale work well for salamanders
tigers at 48th )56 if you can find it)
T=34 at 48th as well
maraders iii at 48th work well for armored sentinals at 35 they make great medusas

Always if experementing buy 1 first and test before yo waste money to get a squadron and find out it is the wrong scale

I was too busy not caring about that, myself.

Excellent guide! I would have found this useful had I not gotten 12 tanks for my birthday last year.

That sentinel Kokagami is rather cool looking.

Outstanding! Good to have a quick comparison to show to new players. That picture of the 1/48th Tiger may just gain me the head way I need in the ever lasting 1/35 vs 1/48 40k argument. That's right I'm looking at all you 1/48ers out there, sure it's the right length, but suddenly it's been made into a low rider, and all the hatches are designed for infants which even for the Imperium is a bit low. Man up and deal with having a bigger tank, every army in the world has been doing so since 1915.

I 2nd the Pin!

This is one of those topics that comes up at least 10 time a year, on every 40k board in the world... I know there used to be a site that had different 28-32mm model comparisons but that went unter about 3 years ago. I'd love to see this expand with more and more comparisons, it'd help a great many of us. :thumbs-up:

Thanks Hammerbolt for starting this.

Np mate, I was really fed up with having to search this.

Send this link to your mates, and invite anyone to send similar photos. I'll post them up, if they are clear and of use.

Sorry for starting the pikachu thing this is very useful, I just have a prepensity to put humor before use a lot of the time.
The flip side is I never get overwhelmed by anything.

hammerbolt - November 4, 2011 11:57 AM (GMT)
One comparison I'd love to find is of a WWI MarkI/V vs a Leman Russ...

Anyone that finds that, will get place of honor and name on the gallery :D

More comparisons loaded:

-AT-43 APC converted by local player to Chimera;
-M41-A pulse rifle from "Aliens" used by IG
-Comparison of Hasselfree weapons (including the M41-A) with w40k weapons.

Enjoy

Semper Loyalus - November 20, 2011 07:33 PM (GMT)
Oh, I'm liking that pulse rifle.

hammerbolt - November 21, 2011 09:33 AM (GMT)
Fellow player sent me 7 comparisons with a lot of AT-43 models!

might I suggest adding the link to the page into your signature, so that I.. er.. others... don't have to page back to the original post to follow the link. Yes, I should have it book marked.. but.. my experience with book marks is that I lose them amoung all the other book marks..

1:35th (Dragon) Hetzer vs (Forgeworld) Destroyer Tank Hunter,

The not-completely-wasted will note that the Hetzer is sporting a scratch-built 40k style big gun and not the original, if I was supposed to put this somewhere else I don't really care, with my bloody connection I was lucky to get it posted at all :WTF2:

Added to gallery, thanks :)

General Panic - March 27, 2012 08:11 AM (GMT)
The Hetzer is very slightly longer and lower than the Destroyer, and has the distinct advantage of being pretty widely available from a whole range of manufacturers, from the cheap & cheerful to the really good (but still cheaper than FW) like the one in the photo......

Awesome series, mate! A very good addition to the gallery. I think I'm going to get a Tiger turret for myself! :thumbs-up:

All uploaded.

Pax Urbis Pax Imperi - June 4, 2012 02:20 PM (GMT)
Good addition, Hammer. Addicition is something else entirely. Appropriate, but still different.

My favorite is the Tiger Turret. That fits so well, its scary. The other tanks are huge. But their longer barrels make for good Vanquishers.
