Never Played Guard Before.

How is this as a 500 point army? Do you think it stands a chance? Or am I completely off Target? How competitive do you think it is on a scale of 1 to 10?

Please give me suggestions!

==================
==================

HQ:
Company Command Squad + Lascannon

Troops:
Infantry Platoon
---Platoon Command + Flamer x2
---Infantry Squad + Missile Launcher + Grenade Launcher
---Infantry Squad + Missile Launcher + Grenade Launcher

Veteran Squad + Lascannon + Plasma x2

Chimera + Heavy Stubber (No one inside)
Chimera + Heavy Stubber (No one inside)

==================
==================

This gives me 40 Men, and 2 Vehicles....

Nothing is painted yet, so no worries if this is a terrible idea!~

7/10

Use one of the chimeras as a bunker for your vets

I don't like missile launchers, autocannons strike me as just as versatile, and are also cheaper. Others disagree and they do bolster your anti-tank.

Heavy stubbers are okay, but for the 20 points you could add another plasma to your vets.

All in all a good start.

Are you Korean?

You write with Korean grammar patterns.

The army list is solid, it should perform pretty well in a 500 point game.

This is definetly a good start. Grenade Launchers and Missile launchers go well together, as both are blast (frag) weapons that can switch to krak (single shot) easily.

I'd suggest also putting the Vet in one Chimera, and the Command Squad in the other. You can issue orders FROM Chimeras, just not to any INSIDE a Chimera. It will increase your command radius as well, and the squads survivability.

I was worried that the Chimeras would end up being big targets...

Like I said, This is the first time I've played guard, so I really don't know.

Any insight?

Well, vehicles are big, easy targets, as w40k considers them extremely fragile, but every Chimera is a choice, either:
- extra mobility and protection of AV for the squad inside, or
- getting an extra infantry squad instead, making You run the infantry some of the time.

And in 500 pts game pair of Chimeras will attract lots and lots of attention, quite possibly to the point where opponent fixates on them enough to forget about scenario objectives - few people use more than single vehicle in small games, and even so it's seldom a vehicle with significant firepower.

The only change to the list I'd consider would be to drop the lascannon in order to keep veterans more mobile, and use the points to upgrade grenade launchers to plasma guns: this way You get better antivehicle/antiMEQ firepower.

@Makoto
I had considered the idea of an extra squad of 10 guys for the price of one of the chimeras. But I went with the Land Raider rule.

"One Land Raider is a target for everything on the table, if you take two, then your opponent has to choose targets, and they both become more survivable."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even if I don't have a squad mounted, I can still use the Heavy Bolter, the Heavy Stubber, and the Multilaser.

Essentially I was thinking they'd be like a mini battle tank. No ordnance, but if it keeps them targeted instead of my troops, I think I'm in good shape.

@D503
I'm not Korean, but I have studied a couple of East Asian languages, so Maybe it's rubbing off?!

Precisely my point - Chimeras will be able to dish out quite a damage while taking fire off Your infantry.
Against Necrons, Tau, tyranids with an MC or assault-oriented marines they might not do it for long, but they'll still occupy opponent's attention for that part of the game.

Also, the Chimera can fire at one target, and the squad inside fire at another. Just remember to move them at least one inch if even THINK your vehicle will be assaulted in close combat. Now they need at least 4's to hit.

Pretty sure this is what I'm going to build then.

Thank you for the affirmation!

The only point that I'm not sure of is, should I drop the Vet. Lascannon and get a 3rd Plasma?

My recomendation is yes, but at this low point build, keep it for anti-armor threat. When you get to a higher total, like 1250 points or more) then think on swapping.
