I played against the new BAs last night.

Inquistor Lord, hood, psycannon bolts
2x mystics, 3x warriors w/HB

ELITE
Marbo
PBS x9 Chimera

TROOPS
Harker,2x plasma, melta, demo, Chimera

pw/pp, 3x melta, demo, shotguns

2x flamers, melta, AC, Chimera

2x snipers, plasma, LC, forward sentries, Chimera

Penal Legion

HEAVY
Hydra

Hydra

Demolisher, LC, PCs

FAST ATTACK

Valkyrie, MRPs

BAs
Mephiston
Librarian

Elites

4x priests

7 x TH/SS Termies, LRC

TROOPS

2 x five man Assault Squads

2 x ten man Assault Squads

HEAVY

2x Vindicators

FAST ATTACK

2x Baal Preds w/ Assault Cannons

We played Capture and Control, Spearhead Deployment.

I got first turn and castled up in the corner of my deployment zone. Darkwynn elected to stay in reserve except for his termies. I used my scout move on the Valk to get the melta vets 12.1 inches away. On my first move I moved another 10 inches or so, dropped the vets and busted his LRC open. He lost 2 termies in the explosion and I lost 3 shotgunners. The HYdras, Chimeras, Demolisher, and LCs lit up the rest killing one more termie.

His turn one he assaulted the Valk and Vet squad. He immobized and stunned the Valk. He also killed 2 vets. The vets killed one more termie and failed their morale and ran.

Turn two the termies and priest died. Marbo entered the fray.

His turn two he brought in 2 assault squads via deep strike, both out of the IL's range and 2 Vindicators. The assault squad killed 3 of the melta vets with shooting. The Vindicators killed Harker's Chimera and the Vets inside suffered 4 wounds and passed both pinning and moral checks.

Turn three, The melta vets threw their demo charge at one assault squad and fired a plasma pistol, killing 6 of 11 models, the PBS hit them with the big blast and killed 2 more. Harker's squad advanced toward the 5 man Assault Squad and rapid fired 2 plasma guns and 2 lasguns along with a melta and Harker's HB. They killed 2 BAs. The rest of the army then poured fire into the Squad that was in cover. I managed to kill the squad but the Librarian survived. I also knocked the gun off of one of the Vindicators. The Penal Legion entered the board edge near his objective.

His turn three, Mephiston, 2 Assault squads and, an outflanking Baal entered the game. Mephiston failed to get any powers off thanks to the IL's hood, the Vindicator killed the Demolisher. One Assault squad put a wound on Marbo. The Baal came in on my flank, tank shocking the vets with forward sentries, they failed moral and ran off the table. The Baal then whiffed while shooting at a Hydra. His Librarian charged Harker's squad killing 2 grunts, they managed to wound him but failed moral and died. Mephiston charged the PL killing 3 guys, the PL held their ground.

Turn 4, The priest was killed, the Baal blew up, Marbo hit an Assault Squad with Demo they passed their cover saves and Marbo assaulted killing one and failing his remaing save. and the BAs passed a ton of armor and Feel No Pain rolls. Mephiston killed 2 PL dudes and they again held their ground.

His turn 4, He moved the Both Assault squads near his objective. The final Baal came in on his side of the board and popped smoke. He killed the IL's Chimera taking 2 mystics with it with his last Vindicator. Killed the Valk, and the remaing 2 vets from the melta vet squad. Mephiston killed the PLs.

Turn five, I killed the last Vindicator, killed the four assault troops and put a wound on Mephiston.

We called it a draw there as it was almost midnight. He had Mephiston, a Baal, a priest and four Assault troops left but he was hilding his objective. The new BA codex is tough as nails and has some potentially OP units. I really lucked out in this game. The IL's hood had my opponent really frustrated , though. So, I won't complain. armata_PDT_01.gif Salute2a.gif

I also play BA and this new 'dex really beefed em up! It satisfies the blood angels, but frustrates the opponents. I however think it is for the better. Nice battle though!!

The new BA codex is one that looks like it will reward the dedicated BA player who will learn it's strengths. I think the FotM players will be beating themselves, as they won't try to learn it thoroughly. Thanks for a very clearly written report and evaluation.

We have probably the best codex out right now. Adepticon was atleast 33% IG, for a reason....the IG codex is great

OUr codex has issues but as for sucking not so much. Any one who thinks it sucks has not been on the recieveing end of a 9 ordance template volley in a 1.5k game.

What do you think is wrong with the current codex?

They should have kept doctrines. Orders are just plan useless. Stormies became ordance magnets. Hellguns got nerfed. If you fielded a specific regiment chances are you army got neutererd.

My big complaints can all be laid down on the now over powerfullness of vehicles and the almost requirement to field special characters. These issues are more of the 5edition failings then the codex failings.

?????????

Been playing the IG since 2 codexes ago......This dex gives the most options to play the IG than the previous 2....

But if you say it sucks because it has made playing the guard less of a challenge to play, then i agree. At least in the previous dexes if you won a lot people said it was a testament to your skill. Nowadays they say its because the dex is overpowered.

I liked the doctrines also, but GW is winging away from that. Just another phase of the game. I miss drop troops and light infantry! Still, the new codex does not suck that badly. Overall it is fairly strong IMO and I've always had a good showing with it since I've adapted and refined my lists.

Stormies are not bad, i've not used them much but IMO the AP 3 hellguns and the options of special rules is much better.

Re about regiments, I can see your side to a point, everything is more generic, but still able to be built to fit a them IMO.

Personally I am glad they gave them some vehicles, that should have always been one factor besides massed infantry concepts. Granted some are just expensive and are not worthwhile to put on the field.

I've always disliked Special Characters and try to avoid them when possible.

I am not saying the stormies are bead but with an ap 3 wep they draw more fire then they are worth.

Again most of my complaints are about the rules edition not the codex.

To each his own, I hated the last codex. I really enjoyed 3rd but 4th just never grabbed me. I quit playing for 3 years during 4th. When I got back into the hobby 5th was out and then the new IG codex dropped and I loved it. But, that just my opinion.

My two armies are BA and IG. I"m happy with both codices.

For IG, I agree stormies don't work. I just use a 5 man squad with 2 MG for deep striking is all. I would have preferred S4 AP- assault 3 18" for their hellguns if they were to be priced as they are currently. =) Just me of course. I also think basic IG are too expensive at 5 points. 4 would be better, but wow. That'd be lots of infantry on the board. Orders are interesting and useful, but I tend to run mech so don't use them too much. Have also played infantry horde where orders are decent.

BA.... My first army. I have about 12K each of IG and BA fully painted. No liking death company. NOt liking the loss of FC overall. I do like the role of priests and aquisition of FNP everywhere. A few ups and downs but overall it's a good list. I can't fit everything I want to in 2K or at any other level, but I guess that means I have a balanced codex.

Good game. Only issue with the BA list you played against is too much bling, not enough basic units. This type of build is actually typical of marine players. But it's all good. armata_PDT_34.gif

Okay, I was playing Space Wolves today and ran against a very solid player using the new BA codex. Good guy with a good grasp of the gaming strengths. Okay, thgey are the distilled essence of an Assaulty SM army. If you let them get into CC with you, you are going to bleed LOTS. ANti-deepstrike will be very useful [can you say Inquisitor and Mystics?], also, Rank Fire will be your friend. Pie plates are effective and should be considered essential against these guys. They can be beaten, but you HAVE to remember to try to eliminate their strengths. Again, this is the purest Space Marine Assault army out there. Good luck!

Nice. Moreso and assault army than wolves or chaos?
