for a baneblade to make it's points (or to help others) it needs to be aware of terrain AND have a mixture between rushing and stationary shooting. but don't get caught by HW.

I played with mine advancing along one board edge with a squad or two of guardsmen nearby for support. The remaining 1700pts or so of my regular army was on the opposite board edge. This forced my opponent to deal with two tough cookies at once and resulted in my Guard force being left mostly intact and with no damage on my baneblade at the end of the game. With two ordnance shots coming from both directions, is there really a 'good' direction to charge?

The Baneblade is a jack of all trades, it can respond to any tactical situation, take on anything in the game with a good chance of success. It can do both of the above, anchor a defensive posotion or spearhead an attack. Just move it with care, remember that it can't turn freely like other vehicles. The best thing about it is that if it's undamaged this turn, it will be operational the next turn (unless your opponent has some really scary things up his sleeve) and is in that way reliable and dependable. It can only be used in games of more than 2000pts, so it will have plenty of backup.

Watch out for:
Assault marines with meltabombs
Monstrous creatures
Massed AT fire
Fliers
Things creeping up from behind
Titankillers

I borrowed a GW one for a game and used it as bait for the uber assault units in cityfight I left it right on the edge of a 2' by 2' clearing and used a platoon to blast any unit that came near it! This was a huge game so by the time i resorted to this tactic the baneblade had lost most of its weapons to enemy tanks and flyers (at the end it only had a heavy bolter left!)

Yep, full flank both sides of the board is a very good tactics as the enemy is force to split his force, which makes his fire power half effective. Divide and Conquer!

Do a mix. Rush a bit at the start to gain some ground then get to cover and shoot over terrain if you use the ability to fier over terrain (whatever it's called properly) and then when they begin to fall back (hopefully) rush them again then begin to stand ground and shoot again but do a mix as i say - maybe not what i say as it is an untested theory at the moment as i have neither a Baneblane or a full army with which to play at present (doesn't mean i don't know what i'm on about) but it all depends on the army you are up against

Indirect Firing?
The Baneblade can't do that.

Just evaluate the siruation and decide what's best there and then.
Tha Baneblade can take a fair bit of damage, so you can afford some mistakes wink.gif

That's what I did with my Techpriest and his 3 servitors. They fit quite snuggly behind the baneblade. happy.gif

Nice and sneaky...didnt even consider that. With the super heavy damage tables, and a techpriest with a couple of servitors, you should have a very nasty package indeed.

The easiest thing to do in a standard game of 40K is to ignore the superheavies. The use of the Techpriest was a waste of time. Virtually no effort was given over to destroying the beast.

I'm hoping someone else in my area picks up or builds another superheavy so that we can have an evenly matched clash.
