Just a quick update, I got back to that grenadier veteran I showed a couple of posts back - here't the finished model:

For those interested, he's made using:

-Pig iron head
-Fire warrior legs w/ cadian boots
-Forgeworld backpack
-Space wolves knife
-Sight from the heavy weapons sprues
-Space marine scout belt accessory

Let me know what you think! My plan is for the veterans to all have the same armour/head, but different accessories on different models. Hopefully it should result in a mish-mash of different equipment, but still tie together nicely.

Bad news is I'm moving house next weekend so I won't get a lot of time for modelling this week, but on the upside I'll have a permanent workspace at my new place (I'm currently using a card table in the lounge room which I have to pack away all the time to make space) so I'm hoping I'll be a bit more productive then!

I really like that. Nice smooth joins for all of the parts and he looks like a well-equipped troop who might be operating away from support elements for a while

Cheers - I'm really trying to go for that 'grizzled veteran' look, you may notice some of the battle damage I've modelled (e.g. his left shoulderpad) which I hope, when painted, will look like he's seen a lot of action!

Love your veteran, inspiration for mine! The damage on the shoulderpad looks great.
(I had seen pig iron heads before, but I am now ordering mine right now)

Great to see an army expand.

Hey all, sorry for the time between updates! I've been too busy to do much modelling, but here's what I've done since last time:

First up, another standard veteran:

Secondly, my converted Sergeant Bastonne:

and finally, in 5 minutes when I was bored, I made another objective marker:

Note that all three need basing still...

The Bastonne model is the most converting work I've done so far... I'd love to hear opinions. I'm not completely sold on the hellpistol tubing coming out of the side of the backpack, but let me know what you think.

Oh, and I was considering putting up a tutorial on making the hellpistols, would anyone be interested?

Cheers,

i really like where your going with your veterans, but the sergeant doesnt look right with all the hoses. If you take a look at the kasrkin sergeant model the wires for his hell pistol and his power sword are tighter to his body and are prolly strapped to him so he doesnt get tangled up in the heat of battle. armata_PDT_04.gif

Hey all, this thread isn't dead yet! Sorry I'm not posting any photos this time, as I haven't taken any, but I've got a few new things to show off when I get the chance.

I'm just asking for ideas for bases from you all - my command squads and veterans need basing and I want them to stand out a little bit but I'm stuck wanting for ideas. Keeping in mind the theme is a planet basically covered in permanent battlefields, have you got any ideas?

The sort of things I've come up with so far, apart from plain mud, are duckboards, bits of vehicle wreckage and barbed wire etc. It's tough to fit much on a 25mm base!

Cheers,

-FD

EDIT: While I'm at it, I've added the army list I'm working towards building in my original post.

OK, about time I got some more pictures up - it's only been 3 months! I've been madly building towards the army list in my OP, so here's the progress. I'm yet to get on to the basing.

Oh, and I bought a mini tripod the other day, so I'm able to get some pretty clear pics now!

To start with, the company command squad:

The commander's torso was a Forgeworld bit I picked up second-hand. I wasn't planning on using it, but saw it on a model in someone else's army and it looked great.

The veterans are made from a mix of Cadian, Catachan and Space Marine Scout bits.

Next up, the platoon command squad:

The undercoated guy needs rebasing, which will be done when I get to the others.

Here's a couple of sergeants for the platoon (replacing a couple I had with the wrong wargear for my new list):

Finally my WIP sentinel. It needs a few accessories still glued on, plus gap-filling along the joins between some of the plastic parts, which I'll do once I've got the second sentinel together. The base will (hopefully) be a couple of water pipes spilling water out into a pool around the sentinel's feet. The idea in my head looks good, but we'll see how that translates to me actually doing it... Note the magnetised autocannon as well, in case I change my mind on the weapon:

Bad news is I'm going away for a couple of weeks, but I'll have a day or two once I get back to hopefully get some more done.

As always, C&C appreciated.

Looking good.

I like the clean use of mixed parts in the squads.

Not sure what to recommend on baes, though. Maybe just mud with a little static grass here and there.

Modelling sand and static grass are always a good fallback. I use it all the time. nice conversions, they are rather cool. Must cost a bundle, though armata_PDT_05.gif

Cheers for the feedback.

The conversions never SEEM to cost too much, because I order the bits in small amounts when i realise I need them, but thinking about it I've actually spent quite a lot...

Having said that, I'm pretty certain I don't need much else to be able to build my 1,500 pt list.
