I am probably late coming to the table on this one, as the Last Chancers have been out for 9 years now, but ...

I was always under the mistaken impression that the Last Chancers were modelled on the Dirty Dozen. The team of miscreants brought together to perform a certain vital, dangerous, suicidal mission, for the furtherance of the Imperium and the entertainment of the masses.

I wasn't until I was carefully looking at their models in the Classics section when this dillusion was cast away. I realized who the Last Chancers were modelled on:

G.I. Joe!

The MO fits. An organization with hundreds of troops firing hundreds of lasguns at the enemy and nobody gets hit.

You don't have 12 models with a mission. You have 12 separate, costumed icons.

Col Schaeffer is Duke
Hero is Flint
Ox is probably Rock n Roll
Brains is Mainframe
Demolition Man ? One of the Red Guard?
Shiv is "Spirit", that Native American Shaman type.
Scope, well, he really doesn't belong because as a sniper he would actually hit someone, but maybe close to Flash.
Grease Monkey has always played out as the Red Shirt, the first to die. Someone once tried to use him with a Vehicle and it didn't work.
Rocket Girl is like unto Lady Jane, with an Aliens twist.
Fingers. The closest I can get is Shipwreck, but as an Aussie instead of a Squid.
Animal, hmmm. Sergeant Slaughter?
Warrior Woman as Scarlet, although Wonder Woman comes to mind.

Who do you think they are?

...I think I just came...

Come to think about it it fits the mold almost perfectly.

I red in an article somewhere (I think it was by Gav Thorpe, author of the Last Chancers books) that Col. Schaeffer was a the GW camo of Arnold Schwagnager (I don't know how to spell his name) just as Marbo was a camo for a certain speech-impared actor. The reasons being that Schaeffer (or Major Schaefer) is the character which "Arnie" plays in the 1987 movie, "Predator". It's also noted that the movie came out during the 1980's, when GW was looking for action star crossovers to include as models (They got Marbo and Schaeffer).

Animal, hmmm.  Sergeant Slaughter?

One GW mini cannot contain the awesome force that is Sgt. Slaughter!

.. Besides if Slaughter were in there.. I think he would be Schaeffer. Slaughter was the one beating the sense into the Joes who suck.

Think the American version of Action Man.

Also, G.I. Joe the cartoon was a staple of my Saturday morning viewing when I was a kid.

Yep, knowing is half the battle.

Yes but not all of us swallow american propoganda armata_PDT_14.gif

I jest, I jest. I only heard of Gi Joe from forums such as this. We had to make do with action man, and his mottley assortment of poorly moulded guns. And cars which had a tendancy to squish when you sat on them.

Or the ability to strap his rollerblades to his back and go under cars. I tried it.

Actionman go squish now.

I also thought he could fly. He ended up with one leg.

Ha, I actually had a few G.I. Joe action figures. Remember I'm from eastern Europe (which really explains why the arms and legs rarely matched). Oh does were the days - I remember one stall had this basket full of the buggers. Even a vehicle. They had the lifespan of a heretic in the middle of an Ordo Hereticus convention.

I still preferred the simple green (or whatever) colored WW2 soldiers. Got around 800 of those.

Oh the abuse we heaped on those toys. It's why I look at my 40k stuff and swear to never have kids.
