Got a game in against my freinds Red-Marines :v

I took:

Command Squad w/ Straken, Master of Ordnance

x2 Infantry Platoons with:
PCS w/ 2x Grenade Launchers
3x Infantry Squads w/ Grenade Launchers, Commissar w/ Powerweapon
Heavy Bolter weapon squad
Missile Launcher weapon squad

Basilisk

Leman Russ w/ Lascannon + Heavy Bolters

Leman Russ w/ Lascannon + Heavy Bolters

He took:

Command squad in TLLC Razorback
5 Tactical Terminators
Ven Dread w/ TLLC
Dreadnought w/ A-Cannon
2x Tactical Squads in Rhinos
5 Scout Snipers
5 Assault Marines

We deployed a couple of ruined buildings (i use the phrase loosely >.>) in the centre of the board and rolled up Capture + Control and Spearhead deployment. We picked a pair of bunkers disguised as eggboxes as the objective as they basically mirrored each other, and i won the roll to deploy.

I dropped Straken in the centre, my weapon teams on the left flank and the Tanks on the right, with the Basilisk safely hidden away behind my objective. I placed the infantry on either side, one platoon to advance behind the tanks, one platoon to make a break for some ruins to the left of my deployment zone.

He deployed *everything* behind a big ruined building mostly out of LoS of my stuff, and his Snipers on his egg box.

PICS!

Turn 1

I moved my tanks forward along the board edge to try and get an angle on his APCs, and completely changed my plan for my infantry by moving most of them into the middle.

Straken ordered the Rocket Launcher team with LoS to fire on the razorback and they managed to pop it open, the command squad spilling out into the road- and the sights of my other rocket team who kill one.

The Master of Ordnance and my lucky basilisk opened up and dropped some shells on the centre Rhinos, immobilising one and destroying the Venerable Dreadnought stood directly behind it (Score!)

Infantry who could ran to get into better cover, and then the Tanks on the right had a crack at the Rhinos and Scouts- but only managed to kill one of the Scouts with heavy bolter fire.

In his turn, he moved round his wreckage to (his) right and climbed his command squad into cover, before praying to the God-Emperor.

End of Turn 1. Love that indirect fire.

Cover saves- oh god cover saves!

Turn 2

After a little re-positioning, Straken ordered the Rocket Teams to destroy the last rhino, which was now visible on the left hand street. They promptly followed orders, then the Basilisk and Spotter dropped shells on the remaining dread who was stood between the two disembarked tactical squads, ripping the things assault cannon off and killed about half the tactical Marines.

The Leman Russes on the right, having rolled forward, dropped a shell onto the scouts and wiped them out, and on the left my Heavy Bolter squads whittled 2 marines off the exposed Assault Marine Squad.

In his turn he continued to stalk forward, the command squad clearing the centre building and moving to attack my centre platoon next turn (Just making it into the cover of the next building).

Turn 3

2nd Platoon (behind the tanks) swung round to confront the enemy command squad with one of the tanks on their flank, while the other cruised off towards his end of the table (6 to cruise! :v) Then Straken started shouting at the rocket squad to take out the Dread. They didn't :|

2nd platoon then Volley fired at the command squad, but the ruins blocked most of their LoS, and then I completely forgot about 1st platoon and fired my heavy bolter squads at the assault marines, finished them off.

Remembering 1st platoon, they fired normally at the command squad, supported by one of the Leman Russes- unfortunately after the dust had settled two of them were still stood there (namely the captain and the apothecary. Still hate that Feel No Pain.

"I... I think we got them.... Oh no wait...

The artillery finally had a bad round, both shots missing the big clump o' baddies.

In his turn, the Terminator squad teleported in between 1st platoon and the eggbox objective ph34r.gif

...um...

Everyone else moved up to the corner of the building he'd deployed behind, out of site of the tank covering the Alley, then his command squad assaulted 1st platoon.

1st plat failed their Ld test for counter attack, and after a miserable rounds of rolling lost the combat- thankfully the commissar kept them in the fight :L

Turn 4

With first platoon engaged, i realised it would be up to 2nd platoon to do something about those terminators (or at least, to slow them down), and so repositioned them, 1sts PCS and Strakens CS to assault them.

Then i opened up.

The Terminators arrival must have panicked my guardsmen, because this largely didn't work, the heavy bolters and Lasfire only downing 1 terminator, with Straken frying another with his Plasma Pistol. The trooper with the grenade launcher in 1sts PCS managed to successfully shoot himself in the foot thanks to scatter, killing himself and his buddy >.<

The rocket launcher teams on the flank shook the dreadnought, while the leman russ sent to explore his end took a potshot at disabled Rhino, and missed.

Then, bellowing mightily, Straken, 1PCS and 2nd Platoon Charged the Termies.

Close your eyes and hope for the best, boys!

The terminator sergeant killed one of my guys, 2nd platoon trampled 1 of the terminators under a sea of boots and pocket knives, and then my Straken proxy sucker-punched the last two to oblivion before they could strike back! Happy armata_PDT_22.gif

In the centre, 1st platoon lost a couple of guys, but managed to drag down the apothecary and wound the captain, so the fight tied and i mobbed in some more.

In his turn the remaining marines on my left advanced some more, and then the captain died heroically, up to his neck in guardsmen blood...

The tactical squads turn up in time to see their captain go down. Thats not going to be good....

Turn 5

In my turn 1st platoon reformed and volley fired on the tactical squad in the ruins infront of them, wiping them out. The Leman russ threaded a shot through the ruins at the dreadnought, but the shell clipped the stonework on the way through and had no effect >.<

The rocket launchers finally succeeded in stunning the dreadnought, and the heavy bolters chipped away at the last tactical squad. The leman russ at the far end finally killed the last rhino, and then it was his turn.

Immediately i realised i'd shot the wrong squad, as the last tactical Flamed the tightly packed 1st platoon, killing 12 of them including the commissar >.< The Marines stormed in and killed more in closecombat, winning the assault, but amazingly the guard held (killing that captain must have gone to there heads), and so i could shoot at them next turn...

We rolled, and the game ended, me with 1 objective and him with none armata_PDT_22.gif

Summation

I'm really happy with how my list worked. Definately buying a Straken (He personally killed 3 terminators in one turn! Goddamn yes!), as his combat buffs were also useful for everyone else.

Although my Rockets didn't do much damage to the dreads this is mainly because i rolled terribly for damage results >.< I had no trouble penetrating him- although i'm sure i would against heavier armour.

My Artillery basically won this for me in the first 2 turns. After that they didn't hit so much but it didn't matter, as by then they'd more than paid for themselves. I'm really happy with the effect of Ordnance on armour. Although i realise for a more competitive list i'd want more lascannons, overall i'm happy with the current balance.

In terms of what didn't work... Grenade launchers in my Command Squads. I kept them mainly out of sight, so they didn't get chance to shoot until the targets were close, and that didn't end well (does 'Danger Close' apply to small arms?)... I'm going to refit the command squads with Flamers for counter assault. I may also fit a platoon- or a command squad- with melta guns...

The Leman Russes moved to much for their sponsons to be useful, so they're going. The points it frees up i'm going to use to upgrade one of my commissars to a Lord Commissar. I know people don't like them, but i was annoyed alot by the amount of Order Checks my weapon teams failed, and i want Dat Command Bubble to keep them shooting. Either that or i'll try a Regimental Standard.

I fealt quite bad for Dan after entirely dismounting his army by turn 2, but he managed to get some kills in and seemed to enjoy it overall armata_PDT_22.gif He says he's painting more assault marines though D:

Next project: Proper damn terrain already!

If you look at straken, he has approximately the stats of a power armour wearing inquisitor with a relic blade, plasma pistol and shotgun.

He is our books inquisitor. Sure, you could use the GW model, but I prefer to use a space marine model.

Equipping Platoon Commands with Flamers is the way to go, as their BS3 means nothing.

Equipping Company Command Squads with Melta or Plasma is great, as they are vets and have a higher BS.

Look into getting another one or two Basilisks, no one likes ordnance barrage, plus pinning.

Also, try to proxy a PSB squad and see how you like them.

After how we play in my store, I can say: OMG you have almost no terrain there! Srsly, guys, those 25% are mandatory! (But then again, here we love terrain. I know, it's weird!)

Don't worry dude, what you've got is still better than the stuff that I see on the ETC's - it's basially a huge microwave oven box in the middle of the table, that blocks LOS and is impassable terrain and Isn't a building. And it sucks.
