Hi guys,

Starting a blog to keep myself motivated and working on the project. I purchased a load of Praetorians about 15 years ago (28 now) and never really touched them. However, I recently got beckoned back into 40k by way of my bro. We searched Mum's garage, and there they were (Most of them!) my Praetorians.

I'm very keen the build a great army. My little bro has a good IG army and we hope to link up for a battle sometime. I haven't played game for 15 years, but I'm keen. I want to paint my guys up first as I see this as a right of passage. Delayed gratification perhaps. And, to be honest, I'm as much into the modelling as the playing.

My Praetorians are from the 60th Regiment "Celer et Audax", "Swift and daring". I found this motto on a monument to the 60th Rifles in my town (Dover, Kent). I intend to make the 60th a campaiggn army. In other words, they won't be all red coated Praetorians. I hope to back it all up with fluff nonetheless.

Anyway my first unit:

I have another 2 squads of Praetorians to model and then some other bits and bobs. I hope to keep my progress reports going weekly.

Thanks for reading! Salute2a.gif

Ooh! I love Praetorians. Amazing how many good forces are made of this unavailable range of figures. I also am keen on the hobby aspect at least as much as the game. Nice painting so far, and I do hope to see some green jacketed Praets appearing. Insert Sharpe quote here: "_______________!!!"
Post more pictures, keep up the good work, and OH,

Welcome to Boot Camp!

Dude, I love Sharpe - I have all the books and Films.

Any good ideas for modelling riflemen though?

Having some 95th in with the 60th would be grand! armata_PDT_25.gif

A nice looking start !
Can we get any closer shots of them ?

Do you have a list that you're working too , or simply "these are the models i have , i will paint." ?

On the note of building armies , would you be interested in using this blog to gain our Army Building Blog Ribbons.

I'd like to say they are highly sort after , but they're not. it's just for fun. armata_PDT_14.gif

Nice job so far!

For the info of all tracking this topic I am the brother of the author of this topic. The Helmandan IXth of Foot (fluff on show on the 'Regiments' thread)look forward to going into the breach with these 'old buggers'!

For your info, Praetorian, the motto 'Celer et Audax' is still carried by the recently amalgamated British regiment, The Rifles. They use the English translation "Swift and Bold" and they have it printed on just about everything they own. It's a strong ethos and it's nice to see it returned to the original Latin.

I look forward to seeing how your diverse 'campaign army' evolves. May I suggest a campaign badge/marking/battle honour to tie your troops together thematically? The crossed spears across a red sun from 'The Taros Campaign' Forgeworld book is a great, simple example. Perhaps there's a transfer on a sheet somewhere that would fit the bill, GW or otherwise- suggestions anyone?

Keep up the good work, bro!

Answers

- I can't seem to get good close ups with my camera... armata_PDT_02.gif

- I would LOVE army building ribbons! armata_PDT_11.gif

- I've got one platoon of Praetorians, I'll keep checking ebay - but I'm not sure I'll be able to afford many more...
So...
I aim to model other platoons on other military eras that I like. I think the second platoon may be WW2 British Paras - I love "A Bridge Too Far."

The command HQ will contain a few characters... Hopefully I'll get better with green stuff!

A standard would be good - I have a rogue Trader (!) IG Standard Bearer I want to use!

Ideas though - I have none atm...

Thanks for the comments. And ShockAction06 - get your army blog sorted you nit.

Second squad completed. Pictures to follow.

Thinking massively about my army for the new codex, bought some stuff off ebay, more Praetorians.

Looking to get some Mordians to convert into Green-Jacketed Riflemen, then to put out as snipers. Don't know if this would be the right choice. We'll see. It would mean converting their las rifles to Sniper rifles.

Anyway its still going, and I'm looking forward to getting the new codex and organizing my army list.

That reminds me - must start thinking up fluff too....

Fantastic Closeups!

This is the first ceremonially dressed IG force that I have seen that looks like it has been in one hell of a fight! A good battle-worn look- they look like they've been through the mixer.

In my humble opinion, my suggestion would be this. Go for more highlights o the weapons with greys and boltgun, to the extent that they're a bit overdone in your opinion, and then temper the effect with some badab black ink. This will allow you to see the detail whilst keeping the weathered look.

Nice work, good photos.

Pictures duly resized.

Good ideas for the guns. I have been trying to finish them tbh. I will mix a grey and give it a go.

Pax - Moxy? (Moxy (slang), name for the research chemical 5-MeO-MIPT? )

Got command squad and 3rd Squad underway now, plus took receipt of a couple of Mordians for conversion to... Sharpe and Harper...

I intend to convert their caps to shakos and get some rifle green on there. I think the GL best represents the 7 barrelled gun for Harper.
