The funny thing about sentinels is that they don't actually have a close combat weapon in their list entry. So I like to imagine that the dude inside just has a knife tied to a stick. And he's weeping (possibly soiling himself) while just trying to stick his "spear" into someone.

Today, a friend told me a Sentinel of his, in his last tournement, "entertained" an Hive Tyrant in HtH... for 2 full turns... armata_PDT_23.gif

What the hell kind of recruitment is done for these pilots, anyway?!

I just played a game using a scout sentinel with a lascannon. I thought it would be a nice little extra anti-armor unit while my troops get in position to do the main killing. As it turned out it was probably a complete waste of points. I dont use them in any kind of numbers but I still feel good old heavy weapons squads are much more effective shooty units then sentinels.

Does anyone remember the old 2ed assault cannon sentinels? I vaguely remember having one and loving its quite quirky cuteness, but again thinking it was useless on the battle field.

It was an interesting little model. as i remember it never came with a base and spent most of its games on its side.

Because the 2nd edition model was pure metal. Ugly or not, it was a deadly weapon if necessary.

Thats the 3rd edition one.

In 2nd ed, my sentinels looked like 'eggs with legs' and had assault cannons.

In 2nd ed, space wolf terminators could carry a cyclone launcher that fired a 6 inch RADIUS pie plate (only once though) and an assault cannon in their right hand that could do anything between self-destructing and firing 9 shots.

but if you shot him, all the remaining cyclone missiles could detonate and kill his whole squad.

It was a crazy game back then.

It was a game where we could field a set of multilaser+lascannon land speeders for the Guard, too. And despite being vehicles they weren't exactly easy to destroy, or even silence.

Daaaamn... I'd seen that model, but assumed the multibarrels were of a multilaser...

I have to say, thou, the current Sentinel looks a lot better than the old models.

I have nothing but those 2nd edition Sents -- on the grounds that my army is old Cadian and needs obsolete Sentinels to match it.

I've considered armouring them up and throwing them into cc, but last game they reserved in on the side of the board and shot up a dreadnought, a Rhino and most of a Grey Knights squad. It's like they were still armed with assault cannons! Can't see taking them out of their recon role after that...

"Wth sgt! I told you to recon, that means see-what-enemies-are-there!!!"
"Yes sir, we did that sir, right after we fraked them up so they couldn't move while we counted them sir!" armata_PDT_22.gif

Maybe they study under french generals... the french use 105mm-armed armoured cars to carry up recon... armata_PDT_02.gif
