The back of the THUNDERER and the DESTROYER are both longer then standard the LRBT. Not that the LRBT is well proportioned but because the THUNDERER and the DESTROYER do not have turrets they seem odd when mesured up to other russ hulled tanks so to off set this they elongated the back. The same can be said for your chimera hulled tank.

You're right,

I think the Chimera chassis is too tall for my original idea:

True, it's too tall for a perfectly proportional tank to your source material, but the model's gun is far larger proportionally than the real thing, so the height could be overlooked.

I think if you extend the body it will go toward making the proportions even out more. Though not exactly necessary from a practical point of view (GW models are far chunkier than real world counterparts after all.) It still would make the overall proportions more pleasing to the eye.

There are some threads in this forum from a member that did exactly that, extending the bodies of his tanks. Unfortunately I don't remember who, the title or even how long ago it was that I saw them.

You might also find some inspiration over at the Bolter and Chainsword and other forums on this subject, primarily forums focusing on tank heavy armies.

I'm thinking that adding some exhaust and maybe some pioneer tools to the back might give you the added depth you want while also adding some visual interest. The exhaust could be mounted vertically along the hull like the standard LR, only make them a bit bigger. Perhaps even add some sort of heat shields like on the old Tiger I. Might be a good place to add a spare road wheel or two and some track, too, to fill the space.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Sadly though, I'm going to pause this project for a month.

Two reasons:
First I really want to rethink the design, so it's easy to reproduce and looks "right."
Second I need to concentrate on finishing my army for the student nationals next month.
