You may have seen my little wooden box in the hobby section. Now I'm happy to use it just as a heavy weapons team, but it gave me a few ideas...

EMPLACEMENTS

Fortified troops are naturally much harder to shift than those just in fox holes, or hiding behind walls. Given time, a commander could have a line of protected heavy weapons teams, or even protect himself behind walls of concrete, rock, metal or wood.

Emplacement Special Rules

The following special rules apply to Emplacements:
- Immobile.
- Fire Arc: Emplacements may fire only within their front facing
- Emplacements are automatically destroyed by Penetrating Hits, models in Base to Base contact in Close Combat, and Flamer Templates. In addition, Mortar Pits are automatically destroyed by any blast template which has the centre hole within the "pit".
-Emplacements can receive orders. They count as Ld7, and have a vox caster.

Wargear:

HQ

Command Bunker

Not for every commander the thrill of the front line.

Bs..Front...Side...Rear
.4....10.......10......10

Composition: 1 command bunker
Unit Type: Emplacement
Wargear: Heavy Stubber
Specials Rules: Emplacement, Senior Officer (may not roder Get Back In The Fight!. The sight of a commander holed up in a bunker is hardly inspiring)

Options: May take Camo Netting for +10 pts, Up to 3 Relays for +15pts each.

Relays

Good communication can save the lives of many troopers

Bs..Front...Side...Rear
.3....10.......10......10

Composition: 1 Relay
Unit Type: Emplacement
Wargear: None
Special Rules: Emplacement, Relay

Relay: A Command Bunker commander may issue an order from a Relay, instead of from his own bunker. Simply measure 12" from the Relay instead of the Command Bunker.

Relays can be set up up to 30" away from the command bunker. They do not count as a Kill Point if destroyed.

Heavy Support

Emplacement Battery

Fortified and heavily armed, a line of emplaced heavy weapon teams can form the back bone of a defensive line

A battery consists of at 1 Forward Command Post and 1-5 Emplaced Heavy Weapon Squads.

Command Post (30pts)

Bs...Front...Side...Rear
.3.....10......10......10..

Composition: 1 Forward Command post
Unit Type: Emplacement
Wargear: Heavy Stubber
Special Rules: Emplacement, Battery Officer (6" Range. May issue "Bring it Down!" and "Fire on my Target!")
Options: May take Camo Netting for +10pts

Emplaced Heavy Weapon Squad (90pts)

Bs...Front...Side...Rear
.3.....10.......10.....10

Composition: 3 Emplaced Heavy weapon Teams
Unit Type: Emplacement
Wargear: Heavy Stubber
Special Rules: Emplacement.

Options: May replace Heavy Stubber with a Heavy Bolter or Autocannon for +5pts, or a Lascannon for +15pts. May become a Mortar Pit for +5pts, in which case it replaces its Heavy Stubber for a Mortar, and can fire all round. May take Camo Netting for +10pts per model.

I like the idea, its super fluffy for the guard. Even on the attack, the sheer volume of men would allow construction of a few of these things to cover flanks in short order.

The relay would need to be weaker, AV8 or 9 all round. It is only 15pt after all and would work as an officer.

The emplacement heavy weapons are also overpriced. With the officer bunker and emplacements themselves, you are looking at similar prices to the Russ. That and I would prefer a sentinel squadron.

Still I love the idea, particularly as if your opponent doesn't like the rules they can proxy standard HWTs!

OVERpriced? I wasn't expecting that... The squad is only 30 more than a normal heavy weapon squad. Would 75pts be a better number then?
