And of course that should read "A record of the intitial process OF the BHG"....

I find all the Guides of this community extremely helpful. What I thought might be instructive is a record of a fledgling Bounty Hunter experience in the intitial stages of developement. The Guild requests 5 bounty claims in 14 days before becoming a member. Perhaps others can learn from the process I am going through and will be encouraged to join the guild as a result.

What will follow is not always going to be pretty and I will make numerous mistakes I am sure. I will welcome any comments from the community regarding the process in the hope that those who follow the same path will be able to learn from my mistakes.

I am starting the process at an advantage in that I have a veteran hunter who has provided me with some insight into the process. (I won't mention the name in case my performance is sub par). I also know and admire several of the folks here from the more traditional survivor alts I run so that is an advantage as well. This Alt (1 1 11) is seperate in every way from my other alts as a result of some of those conversations.

I am working solo without any team at this point. I will also be delaying the record by 2 or 3 days in order to allow anyones position or status to be protected from intell trolls.

My first Kill was yesterday and lesson number 1 was that you have 14 days to report a claim. I reported my first within minutes to the RG. That could have been a mistake. Against a solo PKer this would probably be OK but versus a pack or well connected team that could have comprimised the security. In the future I will delay the report a little by finding a place to store the dumbwit record.

The next post will log my set up and first day. I will cover the skills I started with, how I got them and what I should have done.
Feel free to comment.

Well I promised to use this as a way to document mistakes and it did NOT take long to make another one:

http://rg.urbandead.net/reports/48975#48975

Here is what I thought would be the 2nd kill. Looks good-PKer group, has a bounty, go ahead and shoot right?

WRONG!

Went back to check: Although he HAD a bounty and IS a PKer (and a cannibal) in a PKer group-his bounty is down to ZERO already. Should have been a no kill damn it!

Click on his name in the link-there it is: 0 bounty.

So-I felt I should report it regardless of it not being valid-may end up with a bounty myself as a result.
Lesson #2 Learned: do NOT bounty hunt when tired and ALWAYS check the CURRENT BOUNTY not just if they have had a report! Facepalm!

1 1 11 started out as a firefighter. Civilian class gives 100XP for all skills and I thought since a Hunter requires skills across the board it would be best to have that advantage.
Firefigthers have easy access to XP with the axe so that is another advantage for a starting class.

I worked @ XP harvesting until I thought he had enough skills to start at a minimum to be effective and I list them as follows in the order I acquired them:

Starting skill:
Axe Proficiency (An extra +15% when attacking with an axe.)

Acquired skills in order:
BASIC SURVIVOR SKILLS

Free Running (Can move between adjacent buildings without stepping outside.)

Hand-to-Hand Combat (+15% to melee attacks.)

Body Building (Player has a maximum of 60 Hit Points instead of 50.)

Construction (Player is able to build barricades, repair machinery and restore ruined buildings.)

(NOTE: At this point I kept a 200 XP reserve to buy Lurching Gait (Zombie can walk as fast as the living.) and Ankle Grab (Zombie only spends 1AP standing up.) if I got killed but it did not happen so I spent it on the Gun tree-but it is a good idea to hold some xp for the eventual)

ADVANCED SURVIVOR SKILLS

NecroTech Employment (Player is able to operate DNA Extractors, and can identify NecroTech offices from the street.)

Diagnosis (The HP values of nearby survivors are displayed next to their name.)

First Aid (Player is able to heal an extra 5HP when using a first-aid kit.)

Lab Experience (Can recognise and operate basic-level NecroTech equipment.)

HUNTER SKILLS:

Basic Firearms Training (Player gets +25% to hit with all firearms attacks.)

Pistol Training (An extra +25% to hit with a pistol.)
Advanced Pistol Training (An extra +10% to hit.)

Shotgun Training (An extra +25% to hit with a shotgun.)
Advanced Shotgun Training (An extra +10% to hit.)

Knife Combat (An extra +15% when attacking with a knife.)

Surgery (Player can heal a further 5HP if working in a hospital with power.)

Next on list:
Shopping (Player may choose which stores to loot, when searching a mall.)

Bargain Hunting (Player is 25% more likely to find something when searching a mall.)

Here is my original post to the guild on my first "Claim".

Consider this my application. My intention is for 7 in 14 days. May as well set your sights high, right? Plus I figure it will give you Pros something to comment on: A fledgling Hunter's struggle to make the grade!

Results Day 1:
Successful start!

http://rg.urbandead.net/profiles/view/1222940#48912

Results Day 2:
The mistake that lands ME a bounty of 2 blink.gif

http://rg.urbandead.net/reports/48975#48975

Results Day 3:
THIRTEEN SHOTS MISS! RESULTING IN WITHDRAWL
http://iamscott.net/1301702394500.html

Lesson Learned- Hunting with minimum ammo might be enough on paper but you cannot count on it. Granted: 4 shotgun shells and 18 pistol rounds should be enough BUT IT WAS NOT THIS TIME!!!!

Good news?
A ) I have found 1 or 2 PKers every hunt.
B ) With a bit better shooting and selection I could have 3 Bounty claims.
C ) I was able to get a shopping skill in spite of the low return on human hits!

With 11 days to go I have decided to spend the next round on equipment and we will see if my withdrawl strategy was sufficient to lose the no doubt vengeful PKer.

1 1 11,

Keep it up!

Don't worry about a bounty of two it's guaranteed a PKer will help you clear up that small bounty. Mistakes happen, lessons get learned. tongue.gif It's when a BHer gets a bounty of 130 (and rising), ohmy.gif that people wonder WTF? blink.gif

Thanks VERY much-
4 of the top ten Bounty Hunters taking an interest in this little project is very rewarding indeed. Thanks!
I noticed my log was actually wrong so I corrected it here:
Edited Log (corrected and to date!)

Results Day 1:
Successful start!
http://rg.urbandead.net/profiles/view/1222940#48912

Results Day 2:
The mistake that lands ME a bounty of 2 blink.gif
http://rg.urbandead.net/profiles/view/1847118

Results Day 3:
Sighted PKer but too low in AP to engage

Results Day 4:
Sighted 1 PKer in Dark building, sighted 2nd low bounty but after review of screen shots which indicated a return kill of a PKer twice and no other warrants decided to not claim.

Results Day 5:
THIRTEEN SHOTS MISS! RESULTING IN WITHDRAWL
http://iamscott.net/1301702394500.html

Results Day 6:
Used ALL AP for searching @ Lit PD.
Results of searches were sufficient if not what I had hoped for. Will have to use some AP for search to top off and scout tomorrow.

Results Day 7:
Found a target but again a low bounty from over a year ago. Found high profile warrant again when low on AP. Have good position and am Aping up.

Results Day 8:
THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY: Checked in as I APed Up and found high profile warrant from yesterday still at same position-waited for 2 hours-entered in to building and got a "your target is no longer there" when I pulled the trigger. HE LEFT JUST AS I AIMED! Subsequent search wasted AP-(LESSON LEARNED Stalk don't chase)

Spent the last AP moving to a central location to risk being seen in order to have high AP earlier. They say fortune favors the bold...lets see if the risk pays off.

Results Day 9:
I wanted to get an after action report in as soon as possible while it was fresh in my mind. There are a couple of things to notice:
1) Where I found this same PKer (who has been terrorizing the locals based on graffiti in the area)
2) the AP and weapon mix versus his 60 HP and flak jacket
3) the total AP used

Official #2 Bounty claim

http://rg.urbandead.net/profiles/view/1222940#49114

http://iamscott.net/1302045204245.html Checking "deadends" of freerunning lanes.

32 AP versus 60 HP in a flak vest

http://iamscott.net/1302045224943.html Documenting 3 SG hits + 1 Miss

http://iamscott.net/1302045269493.html Last SG hit-then Pistol

http://iamscott.net/130204529798.html Warrant served explanation

http://iamscott.net/1302045311780.html 2nd Kill

START OF ACTION: 32 AP 55 bullets 4 sshells

END OF ACTION: 7AP 38 bullets 0 shells

Cost of action: 25 AP 17 bullets 4 shells.

notes: I suppose I did not have to dump the body but did not want to give him a pinata option. Clearly, having loaded weapons woould conserve AP.
It would seem 25 AP is a reasonable assumption for cost of serving a warrant.
SO- I will adopt a 20 AP scouting limit followed by a restock if negative results and plan my suburb search patterns accordingly. I will also take a stab at finding fuel since I have seen many gennies in the darks.

Conclusion: So far the challenge of bounty hunting solo is living up to my expectations. I knew it would be hard for me to adapt my game style (which is developed from small unit actions and intelligence gathering) to solo hunting but I also thought the experience would force me to think differently. It has been very interesting to log and plan hunting routes making every AP count. I am learning alot from the process and have a much greater appreciation for the Hunters as a group. It is VERY different from coordinating a groups efforts via satphone and throwing a cade, needle or FAK in where needed.

I am @ 2 bounty claims after 9 days, so my pie in the sky 7 in 14 is not happening. Still I am pleased at the progress- and if I wanted to be less discerning and did not boggle the second and third contacts I could be at 4 bounty claims. So I am hopeful to get 3 or 4 more in the time left- but it won't be easy! I will have to get lucky and run across a recently revived PKer....

Day 10 Results:

Found this Bounty:
http://rg.urbandead.net/profiles/view/306632

After review decided to not serve warrant. 1 report from years ago I thought was not a strong enough reason.

Day 12

Fourth Bounty Claimed:
http://rg.urbandead.net/profiles/view/895878#49181

http://iamscott.net/1302305112311.html Target Acquired

http://iamscott.net/1302305078196.html Warrant Served

http://iamscott.net/1302305055508.html A VERY near run thing!

Of course this presents an ethical dilemma.
I cannot leave a survi inside a build with a body that could rise and attack so...
I will have to take my chances waking up and dumping the body then limping away every 30 minutes!

http://iamscott.net/130230670983.html Well at least I got rid of the body! Now to slowly walk away 30 minutes at a time!

In other news I acquired a new skill:
Bargain Hunting (Player is 25% more likely to find something when searching a mall.)
This opens a whole new avenue of resupply!

And:
This character is no longer affected by the IP limit.!!!
My donation went through so no more IP block for 1 1 11.

Lesson Learned: Use this Map and learn its features. Use it with the freerunlanes toggled and click the build you are in to get distances and directions to other buildings you want to hunt. Click the link:

Day 13-14

In spite of an extended search through out the day using 10 AP at a time and covering the edges of 4 connected suburbs...

Only found 1 bounty:
http://rg.urbandead.net/profiles/view/1864726

Granted a low bounty-but still looked like trouble based on the character description:
http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=1864726

I would have served a warrant but this PKer was in a Dark build and I had no fuel or genny.

It came down to wire on the 2 week deadline. The March 28th kill time was logged as Mar 28th, 19:22.

Seems I will miss the first cutoff.
I plan on continuing the thread to see how many days actual it takes to get the 5 in 14, assuming it is a rolling type deadline.

Day 15

Developing a character description:

There are many paths to redemption, not all of them peaceful. The path to salvation is narrow and as difficult to walk as a razor's edge. Each bounty claimed is a step towards a cleared name.
*It is a price I shall gladly pay.*-Solomon Kane.

Had to respond to a fellow BHer revive call so no hunting today. Figures- I found a bounty I would love to claim-but in a dark:

http://iamscott.net/1302565992151.html

Mean time the dustoff was not in the planned spot:
http://iamscott.net/1302566123585.html
http://iamscott.net/1302566185746.html

So I went inside and found the bounty-but no genny+fuel and not enough AP to do both anyway.

Oh well -we must help each other- Will wait for contact tonight keeping enough AP for revive. Risky to stay with this gore corps PKer but need to take the risk for the revive of a comrade in arms.

Day 16

Found a local bad boy and got 5th bounty claim:

http://rg.urbandead.net/profiles/view/296909#49248

http://iamscott.net/1302653514733.html Start of engagement

http://iamscott.net/130265354693.html Coup de grāce

http://iamscott.net/1302653562439.html Men-in-Black style explanation to witnesses.

I now have 5 bounties claimed but I missed the 14 days deadline:
So-
Since my 2nd bounty claim was on April 5th that would mean I have 2 weeks from that date to make deadline or until April 19th.
But since I have 4 so far in this new period I should be able to hit the correct rate.

Have noticed some keep "score" by recording the bounty of the PKer.
Example: a PKer with a bounty of 11 would be "worth " 11 ponits.
Interesting idea-not sure that would be my approach. I think I prefer a dossier approach-noting who the local mayhem-eers are and hunting them first.
