In the process of installing new bearings on a new steering column shaft, I found the retaining ridge that prevents the snap ring and top bearing chase from sliding up the shaft is a smaller diameter that the original shaft.
The original snap ring (picture two right side) slides freely over the ridge and I am having an issue finding a ring that fits. If I go smaller, the ring is able to fit inside the bearing chase and causes it to bind on an angle.
Has anyone come upon this?
I was going to try two thin modern style rings that have the ears, but don't know if the ears will cause problems when the shims and column are attached.
Thanks for any advise...Dave
