Title: wanted: eccentric adjuster wrench

gianas - August 7, 2012 05:33 AM (GMT)
Bendix, once in the distant past I've read, commissioned tool companies to make a wrench that would fit the eccentric heads to adjust Willy's nine-inch brakes. They were made in 3/16th and one-quarter-inch, or so I've read.

If someone has an extra one, or one they no longer need because they've converted to disk brakes, I'm looking for one of those old wrenches that's at least six inches long.

Maybe I don't have the right name for this tool, but someone who has one will know what I'm describing.

Thanks,

Greg,
Good luck on your search. There are quite a few special tools referenced in the SM and, just like modern cars, make repairs easier. However, I'm guessing that if you were to run across someone that had an original tool they may protect it with the same intensity of an art collector that had an original Picasso or Monet (yeah, I had to look them up!).

You may also want to consider embracing your creative side, as an alternative. If you've ever read the T90 rebuilding guide,

http://www.willystech.com/wt/T90RebuildGuide/T90rebuild.htm,

this is an excellent "how to" but also an excellent reference on how to make those "special tools" that make rebuilding a lot easier.

There's been several posts on adjusting brakes and there were some links provided that show how those authors "altered" currently available (and affordable) tools to emulate rare original tools.

Here's one of those links, to help get the creative juices flowing:
