Hey guys... This is F Bill from over on the 2A page... Seems this is the only place on the web to discuss the elusive DJ other than OT posts everywhere else..
I purchased a lot of parts jeeps from a well known oklahoma seller this summer.. In the lot was a fairly complete 60 DJ and two other jeeps with DJ tubs on them. One has the full door cutouts and the other is the normal door with no tailgate DJ tub. I'll try and post a link to the pics.. That pic should link to the webshots album... unfotunately no serial number plates for the black or red DJ tubs, which may or may not be on DJ frames. As usual I am looking for correct seats, Chrome bumpers and brackets for the rear bumper, grab bars, etc, etc. (wheels as well.) If anyone has a picture of the front side of the stock rim without the hubcap on, I would appreciate it.. Also need pics of factory seats, especially what the legs look like. I found a 60 40 front seat but it has the CJ5 style bracket that bolts to the door opening. My 60 still has the original engine but most of the internals are gone... I probably will replace it with another running 134 for now to keep costs down instead of rebuilding it.. I do have the stock manifolds, linkages, and carb tho.. -------------------- 59 convertible 15933 needs drivetrain
60 convertible 17052 has a V6 and 4WD 60 Surrey 17509 went thru Katrina and looks it. 60 Surrey 17918 started it all...Toyota axle, BW Wrecked Surrey Tub with fenders and grille 56 tub, from 11826 And a couple parts DJ's with no ID left. All my jeeps are projects....only runner is my DJ with doors.. |

Engine compartment, original engine, note pink paint underneath the lime green... Kinda looking like Surrey colors, huh?
Anyone recognize the bracket on the fender? Notice it has a donaldson air filter which appears to be original, instead of the small filter on the carb. Yet another variable in the scheme of things? Is this lime green the color used on the surrey as well? Wondering if it was pink but repainted to green as ordered by the original buyer?? THe blue is a lesser quality later repaint. -------------------- 59 convertible 15933 needs drivetrain

Are there any Surrey specific features that I can use to identify my jeep as having been a surrey OTHER THAN the pink paint..???? All the usual chrome goodies are removed, so can't go by that...I guess maybe I could strip the fenders to try and see if the bolt holes for the windshield straps were there....
My worry is that it was a surrey tub originally and was repainted a more dignified color and sold as a dispatcher out of the factory ...My black Dj tub also has the pink color underneath several later paint jobs. but no number plates and a very butchered frame. The seller mentioned the DJ occasionally had the serial number stamped directly on the frame....any truth to that? -------------------- 59 convertible 15933 needs drivetrain

That's a very tough request. The Surrey was almost exclusively a trim package. That means it was basically a DJ-3A manufactured without the tailgate opening. Mainly the Surrey's include lots of fluff that was not associated with DJ-3A. The Surrey "fluf package" basically consists of 3 special colors and chrome. Colored items included steering wheels, hub caps, sun visors, seat covers, spare cover, and the top. Chrome items included hood catches, ORVM, hub caps, handrail and bumpers. The special high silhuette windshield could be glacier white or coral mist. There are very few components other than the "fluff" trim that are unique to this model. 1) As you mentioned the fenders should have strap mountings. 2) The floor pan riser is different than the DJ's 3) The outer wheel house panels are special as they allow for the rear valance/ handrail. A Surrey imposter can also be exposed via certain components that were only used on DJ-3A. -------------------- 1953 TRANS-VINTAGE CJ-3B / AC 4693 fuel pump / YF 938 SD / Hurricane / 9-1/4" Auburn clutch / T90-C / 2.46 ratio D-18 / Warn O.D. / 5.375 final drive / Powr Lok Front + Rear / Dualmatic drive flanges / deluxe Koenig half cab / 12 volt generator

So... the parts that separate dispatchers from Surreys......are.....things like holes to smap on the fastback style top? Different tire mount brackets?
I have two possible Surrey tubs.. both with the pepto bismol pink as a bottom layer over primer.. The blue one is on a 2WD chassis, complete with column shift tranny, etc. Both front and rear bumpers have been replaced, there are no top or windshield parts, but there is a piece welded on the door opening and upper edge of the quarter panel. looks like a very nicely done reenforcement but I doubt it is stock.. Also....did Surrey models ever use the small hubcaps in real life? I think I found a set of those, the full wheel ones are beyond my budget.... -------------------- 59 convertible 15933 needs drivetrain

Thanks for posting the pic.. I followed it to your album....Very good documentation. While the jeep would have been used for parts if it were a common 2A, it is amazingly original. You have a LOT of work ahead of you....nice selection of NOS parts you've picked up there...Leave a few for us American Surrey owners, would ya?
I would love to see better pictures of the lower seat frame area.Maybe even the bottoms of the seat. ...as well as dimensions of those holes on the front fender for the Surrey Strap.... Good luck with it! -------------------- 59 convertible 15933 needs drivetrain

Hello again!
Yes it´t a lot of works on it... But this Surrey are a early one, so i will try to give this a new life! My seat bottoms are really bad also... I have bought a set of those 60/40 from a Tuxedo Park on Ebay. I hope they will be here soon! I will cut orginal legs off and put them on the new seats. I will try to get the dimensions on the Surrey strap/footmanloops on fenders... No... i do let som Nos parts be still in USA for you guy´s... The Surrey are 100% orginal but... very bad shape... I do collect parts for it now, i have an another Jeep prodject to finish before this will be taken care of! Still searching for the flat aircleaner that are direkt on the carb. There are some diffrents on Surrey´s... I do not have any holes on firewall for aircleaner brackets. And on the top bows i don´t have any holes for the extra vinyl over the handrail/on top of the body tube... Do also collect info/posters etc abaut Surrey Here are a link to a Gala booklet i did find on Ebay... http://s149.photobucket.com/albums/s52/swe...%20Surrey/Gala/ Take Care! Best regards Emil |

I also am trying to do the tuxedo park/surrey seat conversion...but I have no original seats to compare to.
Went over to the shop today to check out my parts collection...and found the holes for the surrey straps... I think. I may end up restoring my second Surrey tub... from what I see it has all the signs of being a Surrey. I found one original fender to it and it had the strap hole as well. I purchased a different repop brochure off Ebay myself... Gotta document the restoration, ya know.. (Of course we all know the brochure and real life are not exactly the same with Willys...lol.. ) It is neat to see the half cab surrey version in the brochure with it's unique paint job and baby moons...Did you notice where it says WIllys will be glad to work with the resort owner to customize the trim packages? There were a few different top configuration suggestions in your booklet too... -------------------- 59 convertible 15933 needs drivetrain
