Even more impressive seeing the inside, but strange they'd build it with the fuel tank on the right side..........hmmmmm, guess they had their reasons.

They probably assumed it would be easier to pull up alongside a tanker parked on the right side shoulder on the road and top off the gas tank.

Since it's a military vehicle, it could be a low-tech version of the Aston Martin DB5 ejection seat.

Does the canvas top have a removable panel?

Ejector seat? That explains the big red button on the dash and the Velcro panel in the roof!

Seriously, the diesel engined Viasa's all had the fuel filler on the passengers side. I think it's because the fuel filter and fuel pump are on that side of the motor giving a more direct run for the fuel pipe and the return pipe to the fuel tank.

Interestingly on the Spanish Military Jeep page it says that the Viasa's did not have the under seat tool box. Well, this one has, under the drivers seat.

Bob.

Thanks for the nice photos Bob, and the information on details like the toolbox and the battery switch. Also the story about how the Viasa Jeeps came to the UK.

I know you sent me an e-mail with a couple of photos when you purchased the Jeep earlier this year Bob, but it's one of many contributions I haven't yet had time to deal with. And now it's starting to look like this Jeep would be worth a detailed article. The Viasa military Jeeps were produced for the best part of two decades, so there was probably some variation in details, but this is a well-preserved example that owners across Europe, Africa and even Latin America would be interested in. (Few if any in North America though, Larry.)

I just bought a jeep Viasa M606 all original on monday. everything is completely original and almost no rust. Has the Perkins diesel and as soon as i find a starter i will get to drive it. mine came from the RAAAB 73 in Cartagena like Bobs. i havent had a chance to do anything to it yet, but am looking forward to it this weekend. I am in the USAF and have been for 18 years and plan to restore it full mil spec like original. I live in Gemany now and when my tour ends i plan on taking it with me back to the US. Does anyone know what part number Air cleaner is in the Perkins Model. It is orange and round like a Fram but no number on it anywhere. Also anyone know what CCA amperage i need for the 2 12 volt batteries that i need to put in there?

dwild, congrat's on acquiring your new 3B, I'm sure you'll begin to enjoy it soon.

I can't help you with the filter, but I'd think that as cold as it gets in Germany, you'd want to buy new batteries with the highest cold cranking amps you could find.

Hi Bob!

Congrats for your "new" toy! It looks really pristine! Which is its engine? Perkins 4.108?

By the way: not all the Viasas have the fuel tank at the right side. Check this out:

Anothe which I found several months ago at my hometown. Unfortunately I haven´t contact its owner:

The third one, parked alongside by ol´ CJ3B:

And take a look here too. The long-wheeled based CJ6 have also the fuel tank at left side:

More military vehicles here:

Cheers! And keep´em rolling!

Beautiful jeep AND with a Perkins diesel. I'm in love, and I can't catch my breath!
Can you give us a video of the engine running?

Nice views Roberto, thanks for posting 'em!

Let's face it guys, jeeps, whether flat fender, round fender, military, 2A, 3A, 3B, 5, 6, 7, Viasa, Mahindra, gas, diesel, 3 & 4 speed or whatever, are just cool rides, no questions about it.

Of course, we here love our wonderful high hood 3B's which we (okay, I) obviously feel is one of the sharpest looking jeep designs ever, perhaps simply because they're different!
