Hey guys, newbee here. I have an f head and there doesn't seem to be an oil filter on it. I know it should be in front of the oil filler tube , butt it isn't there. In fact it isn't anywhere. I'm new to this engine and don't even know where or if I can add one and how it should be connected. The number on the engine is 685836. I've searched all over and can't find an answer. Any ideas?

Welcome to the CJ-3B Page......

On the Specs and Tech Tips Page found on the CJ-3B Home Page, you will find this article in the Engine Group;

Sometimes folks in the past remove the oil filters for what ever reason. It doesn't effect the operation of the engine except for the lack of cleaning the oil. The filter normally diverts some of the oil flow for cleaning as the engine runs and is not a 100% pass as you see on todays cars.

Do a search of oil filters on the Home Page and you'll be able to find some more detailed pictures.

The filters are not hard to find on E Bay and lots of folks have an extra one laying around in their stock pile. Go to our Parts Sell/Buy on the Bulletin Board page and post a WTB (want to buy) ad when ready to look for one.

Or, check with Harry Sheets at Midwest Willys in Crawfordsville, IN as he most likely will have what you need. Phone # is 765 362-2247.

Welcome to the CJ-3B Bulletin Board !
FYI the number that you posted is not an engine serial number.
That is a head casting number.
