Hey Fellas,

I have read some of the posts a while back about whats best to throw into the F -134. I cant find the posts now and have finally got my Willys road worthy so i want to dump the oil in it ATM and put in the right oil. I live in Australia so Brands easily obtainable would be much appreciated. I remember reading about additives in some diesel oils and that 10-30 wt is what im after but thats alll any info would be great

Cheers Will

Use the Bulliten Board Search function for finding the old oil topics.
Not sure what brands you Aussies have but I will suggest a 10W-40 weight for temperatures from 0* to 100*.
Straight weight detergent oil is also fine to use.
If you cannot find an old formula oil with a decent amount of flat tappet protection you may want to use an oil addative.
That said the proper oil should not need an addative.
Here in the USA I might suggest using LUCAS BREAK IN OIL ADDATIVE

Show us the oil you decide upon and we'll be happy to give an opinion.

The characteristic you're looking for in oil is the ZDDP (zinc) content. It should be no less than 1,200 ppm. 1,500 ppm is better.

If you only drive in parades and an occasional fun run in the countryside, you'll never wear down the tappets. If it's a daily driver you'll need to find oil with high zinc content.

Here's an oil that has what you're looking for. Compare its specs with those available in your area.

I was doing some reserch on this subject as I just use Castrol oil & that seems to keep my AMCs togeather,,, I have heard that when you brake a new motor in you should use a High Zink content oil for the brake in ,,,And the only reason all oils dont have more zink in them ,, Is the catalytic converter forms a film on the inside & clog up on newer cars & trucks,,, So instead of redesigning them they send out oil that is not up to snuff,,, I've seen Zink oil additives,,,Heres a Video I found on the subject ,,, It never fails everytime I come on this board I learn something inspite of running AMCs,,,

I use Schell Rotella T1, SAE 30. I use 30 wt after referring to the original lube chart. A while back, I heard the Rotella brand had a higher than average zinc content, but not sure of the ppm that johnrb is referring too. Don't most heavy diesel oils have a higher zinc content?

Yes, BUT, at the behest of the EPA, even Shell Rotella Diesel has been slowly losing its zinc content over the years. I think it was last year or 2010 when it fell below the desired 1,200 ppm level. That's why I've switched to the Classic Car oil. That and the moisture issues which most oils don't address, assuming cars will be driven at least weekly.
