I had a set of old drums turned by joeblow tire shop. While they look nicely resurfaced, they seem to have run out of about .030. Can they even be used, or are they junk? Will I feel that if used?
In regards to new drums, I have read that they can even come with runout... -------------------- 54' 3B - 3A glass tub orig steel 3b cowl/dash/hood/ F134 1" superlift 16 steel wheels ndcc's

By the term "runout" I must suppose that you imply a .030 deviation from its true axis.
In other words its was turned round but its way off center. Wow.... that implies obvious incompetence. If you install the drums as they are the braking force will be greatly diminished. Also the pedal lever will pulsate (rapidly move up and down) as you apply the brakes. So its not realistic to use these drums as they currently are. If enough of the drum remains you can return them to correct the excessive runout problem. The maximum inside diameter allowed is 9.060". Post a WTB, if you need a pair or a complete set of original 9" Kelsey Hayes drums. -------------------- 1953 TRANS-VINTAGE CJ-3B / AC 4693 fuel pump / YF 938 SD / Hurricane / 9-1/4" Auburn clutch / T90-C / 2.46 ratio D-18 / Warn O.D. / 5.375 final drive / Powr Lok Front + Rear / Dualmatic drive flanges / deluxe Koenig half cab / 12 volt generator

Well that sure sounds like a reasonable way to check the runout if your wheel bearings are good.
.030 is just way to far out. Hey Looky.... I actually got to use the term FAAAAR --- OUT ! If they are truely that far out you should probably be able to see the difference between the thin and the thick sides of the drum face. Anyway the only NOS drums I have are for the 10" brakes. I'll try to post my other stuff on the F/S forum. -------------------- 1953 TRANS-VINTAGE CJ-3B / AC 4693 fuel pump / YF 938 SD / Hurricane / 9-1/4" Auburn clutch / T90-C / 2.46 ratio D-18 / Warn O.D. / 5.375 final drive / Powr Lok Front + Rear / Dualmatic drive flanges / deluxe Koenig half cab / 12 volt generator
