gianas here commits the same amount

there are more than 600 people who read oldtime's incredibly precise, fact-filled, and accurate—not vague, hollow, and funky posts.

not many more appreciative readers of oldtime's posts would give oldtime a choice of computers, not just a computer

read his posts and imagine the time it took to collect and transmit his invaluable information

how many people have you met like that?

hope others feel the same way and SHOW how they feel

greg gianas

Bob: maybe you can be the bank where we send you the money we commit?

Did the computer die or does he want an upgrade? I regularly come across computers a few years old, but are highly serviceable. I'd be happy to let the next one go to him for next to nothing.

Otherwise I'd be happy to give $20 to the cause.

Thanks Bob, for your concern.

The CJ-3B Page is nothing less than a World Wide CJ-3B data base that was initiated by Derek.
The CJ-3B Bulletin Board functions as an open forum for its members to communicate world wide.
The CJ-3B Bulletin Board has become a club and this is the nucleus of the 3B clubs activities.
There are no club dues. We are members only because we claim that privaledge.

At this time it appears physically impossible for all members to meet together in person;
to all be present manifest in a 3 dimensional form.
Through the W.W.W. it has become feasable that we can all meet here in the 2nd dimension; all here together at any one time.

On the flat screen we do not directly observe the 3rd dimension of depth that is required for physical contact.
We only observe height and width. Yet each one of us is more than linear height and width alone.
For this very reason I project my depth (3rd dimension) by way of mental transfer.
My dimensional depth simply becomes envisioned as depth of knowledge.

That said I am completely comfortable with my current means of projection.
Do you comprehend my meaning ?

I commend those who'd like to get Ken a computer of his own to save him trips to the library.

But

There's a larger issue - Access.
The computer is one thing, bringing the internet to his house is another.
You can get a perfectly wonderful computer for under $500.
Internet access costs at least $30 per month and that's "forever".

Did a little research for ISPs that will service Ken's address.

AT&T will supply basic service for $15 / mo when bundled with voice (telephone) service. Add another $5 for taxes and fees that they don't tell you about up front.

Charter cable will supply service for $20 / mo when bundled with TV. Again, add taxes and fees.

Both of these are for 12 months. Then the price goes up. They don't tell you that up front either.

If you don't take their bundle deal, then the price for JUST internet service actually is higher.

Just so you all know what the real scoop is.

We can get Ken a great computer from Dell for around $500. Big issue is we need to get him internet access. Ken, you make the calls and get the cost, I bet we can get you some commitments for the next couple years. I will also be in your neighborhood within the next 4 weeks. I would be more than happy to come help you get setup! I can set it up also to do remote IT help to keep it up and running.

What I'm hearing Ken is that it isn't a matter of whether or not you can afford/justify a computer/access, but rather it is a matter of you being comfortable with the choice of your circumstances.

Using the library computer has many unseen benefits for me.
I plan to stay in shape as I age.
I have a fairly nice mountain bike so I rarely even drive the short distance at this time of year.
Actually I bought the bike to better excercise my dog so it performs double duty.

Being comfortable means.
I don't have to maintain a single thing on this computer.
If I wanted to I could learn more about computers at my own pace.
I have access here about 360 days of the year.
If I really wanted one I would make it happen.
My sister started to get me one but I found a loophole and freely escaped.
At some point I'd probly prefer to get a laptop and access internet via an aircard.
That would be optimum in case I ever again get the chance to jeep cross country.
In the meantime I'm fine.

Oh her ?
Well honestly that just reminded me I need to send her an email.

She's more into the Wranglers.
Both of them ..... the tight fitting Jeans and the tight fitting Jeeps.
