My transmission guy has my T-90 on his bench and says he's having a hard time finding the right freeze plugs for the shifter rod holes. The ones he's installed already, get punched out when he shifts it. It's not a case anymore of fluid pressure build-up because he drilled the relief hole between channels when he had it apart. He says his source (KW?) sent the OEM plugs but it's not working out. Can anyone that understands tranny-talk better than me shed some light on this issue if they've had the same problem.

Thanks Lawrence.
I've read about that bolt on plate in leiu of the plugs and now I read where shortening the shifter rods can help, but why is any of this necessary, what's so hard about just putting something back stock and expecting it to work? -------------------- 1963 CJ3B

The plug cups have to be installed backward. Cup facing out. If they are installed with the indent/recess toward the shift rails like 99% of all plug cups are installed, they will pop out when shifting, even on the bench. Turn them around.

Thanks moonracker but it's not the orientation of the plugs, now I've been told, but the availability of the correct ones.
KW had no clue what the correct plugs even were. So we're gonna do the plug-less plate modification like in Lawrences link above. -------------------- 1963 CJ3B

Yep, laid eyes on the remaining plug we salvaged from one of the holes today (and it had been installed correctly). Unfortunately we couldn't locate a pair of new ones for this overhaul. kaiserWillys didn't even understand the question, they only know how to sell the complete parts bag to you. We also checked a local parts store with an ole timey Hudson parts bin and still came up short. So instead of having a machine shop make a couple (too expensive), we decided to do the plate/cover modification.

Did you talk to Walk's or Herm the Overdrive Guy?
I'll bet both would have the right answer and the right part. -------------------- John Burch - west burbs of Chicago
