Title: Atlantis Found
Description: Dirk Pitt #15
Mostly Heep - December 25, 2004 10:54 PM (GMT)
And Clive comes back with a winner. After the dark tone of Flood Tide this was a refreshing book. It's an enjoyable read but not really memorable.
Not knowing anything about nano-technology most of it went right over my head but the action scenes in the old mine and at the South Pole factory were well written.Although I found myself confused at times during the fight at the pole.Too many characters I guess for my little brain to handle
Didn't think much of the Wolfs. They could have been better written as villians but it worked for the story.
I give this one an 8 out of 10.
Corombat - December 27, 2004 07:32 PM (GMT)
It is a good read. A late adventure of Pitt. A well written story. Seing the old friends is good. For me not as good as Shock Wave and Flood Tide, but it is better than many of C.C. books

This is another 10 on my list. Would love to see the book made into a movie! ;)
Kellym - December 30, 2004 01:44 AM (GMT)
I really liked this one, a 9/10 for sure.
I'm a big fan of the end of this one th: I thought the Wolf's were great....their ending was very fitting too ;)

Oh, be still my beating heart!!!! When I read this one it filled my atlantean complex satisfactorily!!!! I was most happy to see Dr. C write a book about Atlantis and do it justice!!!! The wolf family was evil but could have been better fleshed out. The best of the best!!!! A perfect 10 in my book!!!! p: Everytime theres a documentary about atlantis i always watch it. snor:
MrKABC - January 4, 2005 09:10 PM (GMT)
This one is my second favorite DP book! (Sahara being the first). The action, the plot, the characters were superb. While the Wolfs needed some minor fleshing out, their motives were believable and they were worthy villians.
LOL about Prince Charles ascending to the throne abdicated by Queen Elizabeth in 2001...
The scene in the mine, the gunfight in Colorado, the battles in Antarctica and the Wolf shipyard, and the Snow Cruiser all meshed to be a Grade "A" tale.

The gunfight in Colorado is one of my most memorable scenes for some reason. Maybe it's because Loren was involved (right?). The mine and Antarctica were cool too, but I had trouble picturing the Antarctica compound. This book is certainly on my reread list.

this book is what turned me on to Cussler. I went to a book fair and I was intrigued by the title, the cashier said "Oh, you may not like this one... it's more of a man's book." So, I bought it in spite of him and absolutely LOVED it. I found Dirk a cross between Indiana Jones and 007, but I'm sure that this is not a new comparison. I've read about 6 or 7 of his books and have loved each one, but Atlantis Found will always be my favorite because of that chauvanistic cashier!!!
I hope that Sahara does Clive proud, I can't wait to see it...

Welcome soxanaticfay! Enjoy your time here and post often. :)

This one of my favorite books. I have read it at least 3 times and keep finding things I missed. I guess I read it to fast. I don't like the Wolfs much either but, what is a story without the bad guys? It's a 10 for sure. th:

I loved it, there were so many great scenes in the book. My favorite was probably when Pitt and Giordino were at the cruise ships and the base. I just couldn't put the book down! t:

Just picked up a used hardcover Atlantis Found at the library tonight for 50 cents. Unfortunately I had just purchased a new hardcover in March for $5 (still a good price though). I told this to my girlfriend and she said "So now you have two copies of the same book?" Actually, three if you include my softcover.
The meager collection grows. b:
P.S. I forgot to review the book again. It really is one of my favorites, and the reason I didn't feel too bad about getting another copy, when I could have just left it there for someone else to discover the joy of Clive Cussler, is that I feel the book is worthy of giving to someone as their first CC read. Better than some, anyway. cop:
manaclear - April 11, 2005 06:31 PM (GMT)
Man I need to go back and read this one again!!
All this talk has inspired me.
I am sad to emit that I can't remember the book well, and picked it up last night thinking I haven't read it (Yea, right I CC book in my house unread  ).
But I skimmed a few pages and the pictures sent floods of images to my head.
Thanks Guys!!!

I'd consider this one a 9/10. I think the tour of the shipyard was a well written, as was everything in Antarctica. Although it was called Atlantis Found, it felt like little of the story had to do with "Atlantis."
4runner - May 6, 2005 06:02 PM (GMT)
Very impressed! One of my favorites so far. I was expecting to find out who the infiltrator was within NUMA that was providing Destiny Enterprises with their info but don't remember seeing that. I'm picturing the Snow Cruiser as an Earthmover of some sort with the huge tires. Would like to see illustration (only a few) of things like these. I know, leave it to your imagination to come up with your own picture but I would love to see Clive's version of the cruiser and the Ulrich Wolf. ;) 10/10 neck/neck with Sahara so far! I"m hearing alot of good reviews about Night Probe. Think that's where I'm headed next..
Mandasy123 - October 1, 2005 04:53 PM (GMT)
My second favorite CC book, was the one that started my craze
WedgeWolf - May 17, 2006 03:05 AM (GMT)
Following on the heels of Pacific Vortex and Cyclops, this one was a bit of a surprise. Very Hollywood, very blockbuster, but that can be a good thing, and it was here. As far as the good goes, I think there was a nice supply of great action sequences, especially the opening in the mine (though the finale gave me a Raiders of the Lost Ark, "Through that wall" feeling), the raid on the Argentine shipyard, and the car/plane chase at the end. Very cinematic, and quite fun to read. I also got a real blast out of the bit on St. Paul island, as it was enjoyable to see Al and Rudy getting a Dirk-free adventure for once.
As for the negative, my only real gripes are that A). we never found out who the traitor was, as someone pointed out a few posts higher (I'm betting it was Sandecker's secretary, Jean Wolff) and B). none of the ladies besides Loren seem well developed in Dirk's adventures, at least in the ones I've read this far.
So in closing, I really enjoyed this book. It's not dethroning Cyclops or Flood Tide anytime soon, but it was fun. And now I've gone through all the Pitt books I own, and it's time to start thinking about what to read next. Maybe Inca Gold as I'm heading to Peru in two weeks.

weeeeheeee! party: party: party: finally got a paperback copy of atlantis found yesterday. I have just read four chapters of the book, and i don't want to put it down. I know it will be another great read even if I haven't finished the book yet. Will post my review when I'm done with it.
The first chapter (Impact) looks familiar though, I guess I have read it somewhere, probably an online preview of the book but I can't remember where. Is anybody familiar or has run across an online version of this book? Not the entire book, just the first chapter. B)
Beccaboo - May 18, 2006 01:25 PM (GMT)
I have to say this was one on my least favs. And yes the "traitor" issue needs to be revisited. I even injoied Black Wind more than this one. The whole story to me didn't seem fully developed. Well even your favorite author is aloud to have an off day.
Dagaz - May 26, 2006 02:34 PM (GMT)
WEll I have to say taht this was one of my favorites... probably because it was the first one that I read.
and pardon me for being a heratic on occasion but some of the most recent books have not been quite up to the usual excitement and the pulling you into the story level of his earlier books

I don't think you'll get much argument from anyone about that, Dagaz. BW was a bit better but VR and TO are in the bottom of the pile for sure (imo).

i enjoyed the whole atlantis idea as i do all of Clive's " this story started a long long time ago in a land far far away" story lines. From the mines to islands to the antartic it really appealled to the couche potatoe world traveler in me.and the ending if that isnt a classic Dirk Pitt"I got ur @$$" ending i dont know what is
9/10

Just finished reading AF. Another great adventure of Dirk and Al. What is amazing, all books have almost the same plot (idea for a plot) - but it doesn't matter ! Dr Cussler has this rare gift - he really can narrate and his books are never boring. We always know what we will read, but author always manages to surprise us. Just as Tom Clancy said about dr Cussler's books (it might not be exact quote) : "Every Cussler's book is like a visit of a best friend". Nothing to add :)
pink little birdie - September 1, 2006 01:33 PM (GMT)
Ohhh I liked this story one of my top 3 Pitt Books, quite a thriller... a Cruise Ship and a very little island... But then I'm scared of the ocean

Loved Atlantis found. Should be a 3hr movie. Very fast paced. Though too few studios have the gonads to make a 3hr reel. But Cussler puts so much material into his books that you would have to be brain dead not to realize that a 3hr reel would feel like a 1.75hr reel once you get sucked in. And thats easy. Thats the way I felt after I saw Sahara. THEN I read the book. Damn they cut a lot out! But they did a good job with what they chose to show. It would have been much better movie if they wouldnt have been lacking in the old gonad arena. They showed that they had little faith in what they were doing. I guess it's just a lot harder than most people think to find a director thats able to share an authors vision. What a crying shame.
loren1 - November 22, 2006 02:42 PM (GMT)
There have many agruements about Sahara but I guess you summed it up in one sentence. "I guess it's alot harder than most people think to find a director that's able to share an Author's vision" Well said.
Andy in West Oz - November 22, 2006 10:54 PM (GMT)
Despite the comparisons between the book and the movie, I still think it's great to see Dirk Pitt et al getting ouot to a bigger audience. There's people on this forum that discovered Cussler through the movie. That's not bad!
Cheers beer:

I really enjoyed this book 10/10
I also found it interesting that after Clive went through the whole "Raise the Titanic" movie debacle and making the statement that after going to the theatre and seeing Indiana Jones, he cried at what Raise the Titanic Movie could have been.....
Then with the latest Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.... Being to closely related to the Obsidian Skulls and the throne room on the Island that Al and Rudy investigate.... its truly an homage to Clive and his books by Spielberg and Lucas....
Throne Room on the small Island = Final Scene in Crystal Skull
Finding Obsidian Skull On ship, in Mine, and the other one via Purlmutter I think = Skulls and aliens in the Graveyard and Russian infiltration of storage facility to get Skull
Its an obvious link......
Hopefully no more law suits are spawned from this posting.... Ha Ha NOT!
This book has it all, Super Villains, Uboats, Nazis, Aliens/Atlantians, Sailing ships, Gun Fights, Diving in Mine Shafts, discovery of another race.... HMM kinda of Indiana Jones like....

Cool site about the Moller, I'd buy one if I were loaded.
I did read, though, that they're neither street legal nor approved by the FTA for actual flight. Sooo... you can pretty much just hover around your backyard and impress your friends. Still, you'd have VERY impressed friends.

I just finished the book, and I loved it! I almost wet my pants from laughing when Pitt flushed Hitler`s ashes down the toilet- right place for this infernal shame of a whole nation- gave me ( I am German ) great satisfaction
The whole story was perfectly made up, I give it a fat 10 :)

I agree with you "Atlantis Found" was an excellent read. It was one of the first, if not the first CC book I ever read.
