I love Clive Cussler books but i haven't seen the film yet. When i found out M.McConaughey is playing Dirk Pitt and S.Zahn is playing Al Giordino i'm really disappointed. First of all, Dirk was taller than Matthew, heshould have black hair, darker skin;and Al was Italian curly black hair short and heavy and Steve does not look like Al at all. Matthew McCoughney and Steve Zahn are not Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino i imagined.

Welcome to the forum, zep! You're right, Matthew and Steve do not look like Dirk and Al as described in the books, but I think the general consensus is that they had good chemistry and displayed the spirit of the characters. I was definitely more impressed than I thought I would be, and as long as you can ignore what they look like you will probably enjoy the movie.

You're right Oswalder. Especially Steve Zahn do not look like Al. But his behaviour was just as Giordino's. So, don't worry about that Zep, just watch the film :) It's good action-adventure movie.

and MM is definately hotter in this then what he was in Failure to Launch (which I saw because he is Dirk)

Matt McConaughey and Steve Zahn were perfect as Dirk and AL,bar none !!! I saw in the " Unofficial Dirk Pitt Movie Poll" that the most popular choice was George Clooney as Dirk and Sly Stallone as Al. Are you kidding ??!!?? What terrible choices. The complaint about the looks is bogus. MM made sure he had the hair and eye color right and was Dirk down to the last detail,including the watch. His interpretation was thoughful and true to the character. SZ,despite not having "dark,curley hair" fit Al like a glove. MM and SZ ARE Dirk & Al !!!!!!!
