Well, every year in my area they have a book sale with paperbacks for a buck or two each, while I was there I saw about 5 old Cussler paperbacks, maybe more. At the time I was not a huge Dirk Pitt fan and had copies already so I passed. Right now I can't stop kicking myself for not buying the older copies.
Has this ever happened to anyone else?
When I was first interested in collecting Cussler books, I was at a flea market and spotted a hardcover Mayday Large Print. The book was an ex-lib and the guy was asking $3 for it. I put it back on the table and figured I'd find a better copy elsewhere. I walked back to the car and was just about to drive off when I thought, what the hell ... I'll grab it anyway.
Fortunately, the book was still where I left it, and the guy accepted $2.50 for it.
Since I've been collecting, I've noticed this book sells for about $100-$200.
i got lucky several years ago and picked up a first edition "Raise the Titanic" hardcover for a buck at a yard sale. It's in pretty darn good condition too.
