Title: Severn House Iceberg
Description: A bit of advice please
marley999 - April 24, 2012 01:32 PM (GMT)
Hi all,
As i've mentioned in a few of my previous posts, the only 1st Edition UK Hardback I'm missing is the Severn House Iceberg. In fact until recently I'd only actually seen a copy via a picture that Tony Krome kindly posted for me on this site.
Well....that's where i need your help!!!
The good news is..I've found a copy via a second hand bookstore in Australia.
The bad news is..It's only in reasonable condition & is missing the Dust Jacket.
The price is £75 including the postage (approximately $120).
I'm not proud to admit that this is quite a large amount of money for me as i don't earn a great deal.
Considering the condition, no DJ, etc, what do you all think i should do? I'd love some advice.
Cheers all,
James

I'm not trying to talk my way out of it but isn't some of the joy in having a good condition & a DJ? I'm still 50/50...just can't make up my mind!!!
Here's the pic that (with DJ) that was posted last year. One of the rarest Cussler books out there!

I don`t want to mix into this....actually....but, without the DJ?? I think I would not. At least not for that price. Sorry, guys... ;)

Decision made, I'm going with you Juanita, i enjoy having books with the DJ...just seemed like too much money for a book with no DJ & not in great condition.
I hope i bump into another copy one day!!
Thanks all.

Okay, Marley, I hope I didn`t make you feel miserable. But I would do the same....maybe you get another one in better shape, then it`s worth it :)

Not at all Juanita, I hope I'm going to run into a mint copy in a second hand bookshop oneday, almost mint condition, with DJ & only a dollar....I can but dream!!!
All my other 1st Edition UK hardbacks are absolutely mint (inc Pacific Vortex & Mayday). All have got there DJ'S, no scuffs etc.
Severn House Iceberg...one day you will be mine! Lol.

Good Luck then, Marley :)
I have mostly Audio- books, it is so complicated to read with changing glasses all the time, I loved to read, but now the Audio- books are a better solution for me. If they are read by Scott Brick. But that is another Topic, I think :o ;)

Did I tell you about the time a few years ago when I took time off work to bid on a Severn Iceberg as the auction was ending? I placed a huge bid with seconds to go on a mint copy and got outbid! I was prepared to eat baked beans for the next 12 months to offset the expense. beer: The guy that put the book up for auction found it in a drawer full of kitchen utensils at a deceased sale in the UK. I think he started it at 10 pounds without knowing the true value.

So I'm guessing that the likelyhood of me ever finding a copy with a DJ & in reasonable condition for a sensible price is somewhere between 'Bob Hope' & 'No Hope'!!!!

Keep searching! I remember I found one of those 1986 hardcover editions of Mayday in Canada. The guy was selling off unsold books from under his counter and one of them was the Mayday. :)
The fair dust-coverless Severn Iceberg copy would have been a good filler copy but for the money it seemed a little pricey.
