I really cannot see Dirk Jr as an action hero because he doesn't have the training unless NUMA puts everyone through a commando school.

Dirk Sr, I really buy it with his past though. I buy Austins and Cabrillos even better.

I believe Crescent Dawn is one the best DP books written in a while!

I fully agree. Great widespread and complex action and mystery. Character development was very good. I liked it a lot better than the latest Fargo and Bell novels.

Jack will definitely have his work cut out for him by developing DJ and Summer.

I've always felt like Dirk jr. isn't a very well established character. Dirk sr. has a great backstory--Air Force officer, shot down Sandecker, helped established NUMA...all before he appeared on the scene. Dirk jr. doesn't have action hero cred yet. He's building it, but it would be fun to really explore his backstory, maybe with some teasers about his adventures with Jack before coming to NUMA.

And Summer Pitt? I feel like she's been an almost completely wasted character thus far, and will continue to be as long as the Dirk Pitt books are split between father and son.

Now there's a though...A Dirk Jr. & Summer series. The Vortex Files or some such series might be interesting. thumbsup.gif

I think Dirk is starting to get the hang of writing the book because Arctic Drift and Teasure of Khan were really good.

I agree. I liked Treasure of Khan a lot, and so far I'm liking Crescent Dawn. I have a few technical quibbles (e.g. talking about Hollywood myths in the historical prologue...you don't want to pull the reader out of the setting) but overall it's definitely the work of a professional writer.

I think you're right about the need to move on. Dirk and Al are still wonderfully appealing characters, but it's ridiculous to have next gen characters sharing the stage with the classic characters. I would love to see the novels alternate between the generations, or even the launch of a separate series.

Hate to say it but this book just didn't do it for me. I liked it but it will be near the bottom of the list of Pitt books. I would suggest it to others but not the best. I think Dirk is starting to get the hang of writing the book because Arctic Drift and Teasure of Khan were really good.

I do wonder what the future will hold though - are Dirk and Al going to get phased out and son, daughter and Jack take over or will DCussler try to stretch the family out? I can get over the twins conception mistake but they seem to be dragging the stories down. I think I'm at the point if they would just pass the reins over to Jr. Summer and Jack with sporadic mentioning of Sr and Al I would be fine with that. Sometimes you just got to move on.

I loved the book, i read it in 8 days.

Things i didn't like:

The book needed more Pitt/ Giordino stuff and not so many different stories all at once.

I found it to be a little be toooo improbable that Pitt, Dirk and Summer's three completely different adventures all came out to be connected in the end.... not likely...

Other than that i loved it, loved the writing and story.

I think that "other" Crescent Dawn synopsis was something suggested by a forum member when all we knew was the title. It's not an actual Cussler story; just wishful thinking.
