I just finished reading the Jungle last night for the second time and enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time. I thought the edition of MacD was a good twist and I'm looking forward to their next adventure! However the computer at the very end was a long stretch, I thought.

Na oopsoopsoops, Seasong ohmy.gif wink.gif wink.gif don`t worry, some like it, some don`t. Lot`s of things are a question of taste. MacD is not too bad in my taste, and I just think, ( or the writers think ), The Corporation needs some refreshment on the fighting front.

Wow. Apparently, I stand alone here. wink.gif

To be honest, I was completely underwhelmed with this book. It was the first Cussler book I almost didn't even bother finishing, I disliked it so much. The new character, MacD, was annoying to me. As in, really, really annoying. I did not like how the authors spelled out "Ah'll" instead of I'll -- just tell me the guy has a Southern drawl and let me hear it in my head, please.

And I think I really resented how MacD completely took over the book and was suddenly a major player in the Corporation. Essentially, he was showcased in favor of other, more familiar characters. I mean, Eric Stone was barely non-existent in the book! One of my favorite characters being relegated to probably just a line or two did not make for a happy reader at all.

So, that said, I'm still looking forward to the next Oregon Files book, but with trepidation. It's Cussler. Of course I'll read it. But I am most wary of being burned again . . .

I finished listening to The Jungle a few weeks ago.
I've been a big Dirk Pitt fan for over two decades, and just
discovered the Oregon Files this year. I've bought and listened to
the entire series. I do field service and cover the southern part of Arizona,
so I'm driving a LOT!!
I LOVE the Oregon Files. I love the tech stuff, the stories, characters, etc.
I ALWAYS look forward to a new release of either Pitt, Oregon, or Kurt Austin.

It was great reading that Jack Dubrul is writing another Mercer book. Jack's use of Mercer's character in the Jungle was fun to read. I just finished re-listening (road trip) to River of Ruin and it's about time to get another geological book out there.

I agree! Mercer books are a fun read as well and it was awesome seeing him make an appearance. Wonder when a new one will come out? Any idea?

You know ANTI something.... i don`t care so much and i don`t even dare to talk about who is writing what. Their connection is their thing. THEY do a great ENTERTAINING thing. It`s enough, isn`t it?? wink.gif

Du Brul is doing the writing 100% with, I imagine, CC having a look every now and then etc.

Next Mercer book, according to the Du Brul forum, is the current writing project for Du Brul. Here's hoping he has the chance to complete it before the Oregon publishers come knocking again.
