I'm just wondering if the Big C was even offered to writing the screenplay for HIS book?
It probably would have been so much better ya think?

Apparently the "Passion of Christ" is doing quite well. Our Aussie friend, Mel Gibson, put his own money on the line and produced what may well become one of the biggest movies of all time.

And even before Mel ponied up his own dough for the Passion, does anybody remember James Cameron doing that for his own movie that widespread opinion said would never make a dime?

For those who don't know, Cameron's 1999 movie "Titanic" did rather well.

Cameron is also no stranger to action flicks, having produced and directed the first two Terminator movies, which I seem to remember also doing well.

Hmm, a Dirk Pitt movie directed by Cameron and produced by Icon (Gibson)?

With full script/casting approval by Dr. Cussler of course.

PS I didnt think MM did badly as Dirk.

First off, I'd like to say this forum rules. I never thought anyone else would understand the obsession I have for Dirk Pitt and all of Dr. Cussler's books. Hell, my real name is even Dirk and everyone looks at me funny when I first introduce myself.

Anyway, I swore I wouldn't see this movie and there I was, opening day, first showing. None of the actors fit the mold physically, especially Giordino. I did think that the character Giordino fit the attitude and personality. I wish they would have made him look a little more 'reliable' and less goofy. Same for Rudi Gunn. Gunn isn't an awkward geek like they made him out to be, he's a smart guy that has his 'stuff' together. And Matt playing Dirk Pitt, uggghhhh. For a movie I give it an 8/10. For a movie adaptation of a book I give it a 3/10. I just hope this movie does well enough that people will want to read the book and get hooked. I can't imagine what it would be like to see the movie then read the book and all of a sudden Abe Lincoln shows up. Awesome. I hope more movies are made, but I doubt any of them will ever come close to the books I esteem as sacred. boat.gif

I just saw the movie. Mathew was an ok Dirk, but Al and Admiral Sandecker were awful. Al was made to be a goof and Sandecker didn't act or appear as a retired admiral would. Overall, not a good movie.

I watched a special on George Lucas on 60 minutes a while back and he said that after Revenge of the Sith is released he is going to make smaller movies and as he said, "fail the rest of his life." I don't think that we're going to want that in a Dirk Pitt film.

  Good on you Snowdoggie!

I think that Clive should hook up with George Lucas to make the next film for these reasons.

-Lucas knows a little bit about getting screwed around by Hollywood and knows how to get around it. (Self financing and moving all of his operations to Marin County)
-Lucas knows a little about making adventure films.
-George should be available after May 19th.

Just got home from seeingit here in Brisbane Australia. They cut the Ozzie Plane bit :-( If recall in the book the plane returns to Brisbane and goes on display next to Smithy's Plane.
Good flick!
Cant wait for Inca Gold!
I'd get the o'l Cuss back and do it his way. The dramas behind the scenes turn me off. Reimagination is so passe. Unless it is a rewrite of the ending of Trojan Odessey -- then I approve.
