| Zalman Von Draxx sat back and listened to Quint Caperton make a case to help the Confederates fight against the United States. "With Mr. Zeuilithan as my witness I believe that it would be to our advantage to help the Confederates against the Union. As you know, Mr. Zeulithan is always looking to foment any rebel cause and I think that there's a case to help the confederates bcause if they succeed we will have a connection in North America" "I will help but I do not see them winning against the United States" replied Zalman. "However, I would like you to inquire Mr. Zeulithan if he could build a submarine for us and I will pay generously" "Yes, Mr. Draxx" | |

| What Allan Pinkerton would not learn until several years later was that he had not the right questions to ask those damn rebs about the mysterious cargo that they had hauled out of that mysterious ironclad. | |

| September 1863. After learning about some Confederate activity from his agents John Scully and Pryce Lewis, Allan Pinkerton was dumbfounded when he learned that the captured Confederate Pirates refused to talk to his interrogators. "Listen you dirty rebs! I have no patience for your dissembling. Speak about that mysterious craft that you were seen leaving out on the sea!" "None of yer business you damn detective! We have every right to do as we please!" "No, you don't! This is War and there are no rights during War! Now speak the truth or I will kill all of ye if you do not cooperate!" "Fine! That was a friendly craft from across the Atlantic and we were allowed aboard the Ironclad to talk about potential alliances with money men". Stunned, Allan Pinkerton could not believe his ears. Do I tell the President about this or tuck it under my hat until there is proof wondered Mr. Pinkerton. "What was the name of that Ironclad?" Pinkerton asked. "The Nautilus" | |

December 18, 1923. Kaye Lani lay aboard the Noni Darnell soaking up the sunshine in her bathing suit. Raffferty stood at the doorway of the wheelroom admiring Kaye and counted himself lucky to have met this beautiful creature. Suddenly he heard a small engine craft approaching from the southwest. Whirling around and swiftly striding over to the edge of the boat he saw the small craft approaching with three men onboard fast and a Cargo ship that lay aways off. "Kaye Lani!!" Rafferty cries as he swept back into the cabin to grab his rifle. Cocking the rifle and stepping out of the wheelroom with as much gravitas that surged through him. "Stay in your craft and turn around now!!" Rafferty demanded. But the first man was already over the edge of the ship. Firing the rifle's bullet as close as possible without hitting the first man who did not even flinch and swept a handgun from a holster on the back of his pants. Rafferty crouched and fired again with the rifle. The man took the bullet just beneath the sternum and flew off the ship into the water as the second man appeared above the edge of the ship and firing off a bullet that sailed over Rafferty's shoulder into the woodwork of the wheelroom. The third man on the small craft fired off a shot with his rifle and hit Rafferty in the shoulder. Kaye Lani shrieked. The man on the small craft fired his rifle at her and she took the bullet in the throat and whirled around before she fell down, mortally wounded. "Kaye!!!" The second man flew up the sideboard ladder and was onboard now and firing with his handgun. Rafferty aimed the rifle and sent him flying across the forecastle of the ship. The man on the small craft sent a bullet that just barely missed Rafferty's ear. Rafferty stepped forward and reloading the rifle. Rafferty took a bold stand near the edge of the Noni Darnell. The man that lay on the Noni Darnell turned over and fired his handgun before Rafferty's rifle sent him a bullet that killed the pirate. Rafferty felt the bullet from the small craft assailant and knew that he was mortally wounded. Wheeling around, Rafferty got off a round that sent the man into the water. Rafferty laid down to wait for his death and knew that he would be joining Kaye Lani soon. He heard another small craft approaching from the larger ship that lay off about a mile distant. |

| 1923. Nathaniel Hardwicke, General Secretary of The Forum was informed by his assistant that the rest of the members were ready to start the meeting. Nathaniel swept off his Judicial robe and exited his office to join the rest of the Forum. As he swept into the meeting room he realized that this meeting would have to be a sub rosa meeting because of the nature of the topic they were about to discuss. "Let's begin with the project at hand about the contents of the S.S. Noni Darnell and our attempt to sweep it under the rug permanently. "Mr. Secretary, I propose that the technology we are about to use is so advanced that we only refer to it generally so that the minutes of the meeting will be rather circumspect at best" "Fine, so be it, Marcus. You may proceed to start the meeting" "Very well, I call to order this meeting of the Forum and the contents of the following will be couched as best we can. As the Parliamentarian I ask each member to state their name and position. I Marcus Biggs, Parliamentarian hereby decree that this meeting is officially noted" "I Nathaniel Hardwicke, General Secretary of the Forum hereby note the recording of this meeting as official" "I George Loomis, Head Technologist agree to this meeting" "I Lucille Jordan-Meserol, Project Manager agree to this meeting" "The technology that was secreted aboard the Noni Darnell could never be suspect because each part individually are rather ordinary. Our intelligence has not picked up any talk or whispers in each and every major country that would have any interest. We may assume this will be a safe jouney. However, if this does fall into the hands of any power or crazy individual, they will be clueless as to how it works and what it is" The meeting will go on for another forty minutes talking about other matters and will disband. Later, when news of the loss of the Noni Darnell becomes public each member of the Forum waited with baited breath and did not relax until well into the early 1960s when it became obvious that it was lost or being held secretively. | |

| Friday, 9 March 2013. Experts in fields of salvage recovery, legal codes, marine research, international treaties testified from 8AM through 6PM droning on and on about their views in disentangling the conflicting legal suits. Dirk stood all day half-listening and recalling his experiences in these areas when he was with NUMA for more than three decades. After he stepped in the doorway of his suburban home he sank to the floor and peeled off the shoes, socks and sat still for a few minutes as the ache in his legs slowly subsided. Loren walked into the living room and smiled. "How was court today dear?" "Long and dull". Loren helped him to the bathroom where he bathed in hot water allowing it to soothe aches and pains of age. Helping him to the bedroom and dressing, Loren told Dirk to lay on the bed for awhile as she began to prepare the evening meal. After finishing their repast Loren asked if the trial would last much longer. "Yes, I'm afraid it's goimg to take quite awhile to get through all the droll details before anything begins to happen if it ever does" | |

| Wellington, New Zealand. February 14, 2013. Despite the loss in height and muscle tone, Dirk Pitt stood straight as best he could while wearing the starched bailiff suit. With his droopy mustache and balding pate, Dirk felt old as Loren looked on from the fourth row of seats. Announcing the arrival of Judge Hiram Leigh Stone in the courtroom, Dirk was still getting used to his new job despite being here for four months now. Semi-retirement was not expected to be this droll, he thought. When he realized he was no novelist he had allowed Loren to suggest an easy job for him. Kelso Robinson, the court clerk handed Judge Stone the papers on the case concerning the Noni Darnell and the lawsuits brought by the French and New Zealand governments. The Prosecuting attorney, Daniel Lassiter stepped forward and handed some papers to the clerk and began his address towards the Judge and the courtroon. The Defending attorney, Christine Zeenaugh. an attractive blonde sat dumbly as she tried to listen to the opening argument. Finally, after some forty minutes Daniel Lassiter finished and sat down. Christine stood up and scanned her notes before approaching the judge. Beginning with an emotional approach for the residents of the town of St. Mere-Eglise, having been to the small town and getting to know some of the residents. Christine reminded the court of the long dead seamen whose families still lived on in the french village and how it would impact them if the contents of the ship including her cargo were returned to France. | |

| December 23, 2012. St. Mere-Eglise, France. The Mayor of St. Mere-Eglise was addressing the town council of the founding of the S.S. Noni Darnell with relief and happiness that the ship had finally been found. Henri-Claude Blaisel was asking if the council would be willing to allow the remains of the ship to be returned to her hometown. Everyone assented. A week later, the ambassador of New Zealand sent a letter to the town council that the cargo of the Noni Darnell be allowed to continue on towards Wellington as it was supposed to back in 1923. After a heated discussion the town council refused and sent a message to the French ambassador, Edward Arrington. When he received the news Arrington let loose a few invective words and cabled the news to the New Zealand government. Within two weeks two lawsuits were filed by both the French and New Zealand goverments. It was settled that the court case would be held in Wellington, New Zealand and that the hearing would start in late January or early February. | |

| December 20, 2012. Thirty-five miles west of Van Atta Island the NUMA Ship, Yonder was in it's thirty third track with a side scan sonar being towed behind when a big blip occured on the computer screen in the electronics bay. Giorgios Arvadi, the electronics specialist perked up from a doze and spotted the anomaly and as the data poured in he realized it was a big target. Meanwile, out on the stern Frederick Hermann was lazily looking towards the island in the distance half dreaming of being on its shores with a beautiful woman. Realizing he was getting carried away he turned to look towards the west and spotted what looked like a yacht about four miles away. Frederick grabbed his walkie talkie and hailed the bridge letting Captain Nigel Lagomarsino know about the presence of the yacht as Giorgios was informing the captain of the big target below the waters. Captain Lagomarsino called for a small boat to be lowered with three hands and sent to the yacht. Next he called for the DSROV to be lowered into the ocean to capture video of the target. When the three crewmen returned with news of two corpses and papers of the yacht Captain Lagomarsino ordered them to return and scuttle the yacht while looking over the papers of the couple that had been murdered by pirates. Four hours later as video of the ship Noni Darnell came into view with her name on the forward bow, Captain Lagomarsino vaguely recalled the name of the ship disappearing back in 1923. He sent a wire to NUMA Headquarters of the discovery of the ship and of the yacht. |
