Ok, has anyone got an explanation as to why Dirk Pitt is 6'2" in Raise the Titanic, but he is generally accepted as 6'3" in every other book?

YES! to your first question.

Good point made in your second question. The only time Dirk Pitt shrinks an inch is in Raise the Titanic! My crystal ball is a hazy, but I suspect it must have been the excitement of the adventure!
