Dirk Pitt mentions that he used to tag along with dad to Washington parties and attempt to pick up congressional mistresses. Flood Tide (25)

Hmmm, he did meet Loren Smith at Washington cocktail party. Vixen 03 (1)

Her first words to Dirk Pitt:

"Mr. Pitt."
"Mr. Pitt."
"Now that you've raised the Titanic, what are you planning for your next project?"

Guess we know the path that project eventually lead too. wink.gif

The driver of the VW bus on the auto ferry is wearing a tie-dyed Grateful Dead T-shirt. Black Wind (18)

I started thinking about speciality T-shirts. Here are the ones that I recall in the adventures:

Dirk Pitt - RAISE THE LUSITANIA
Deep Six (22)

Al Giordino - IF YOUR EYES ARE STILL OPEN, IT AIN'T ALKALI SAM'S
(Alkali Sam's Tequilla)
Inca Gold (32)

Waiter at Charlie's Fish Dock - IF GOD MEANT TEXANS TO SKI, HE'D HAVE MADE COWSHIT WHITE
Flood Tide (32)

Rudi Gunn - ST. MARY'S PARISH, GOOD OL/ FASHION SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY
Flood Tide (40)

Mark Murphy - ARGONAUT
Fire Ice (20)

So we can post anything here, right?

Ok, has anyone got an explanation as to why Dirk Pitt is 6'2" in Raise the Titanic, but he is generally accepted as 6'3" in every other book? dry.gif

YES! to your first question.

Good point made in your second question. The only time Dirk Pitt shrinks an inch blink.gif is in Raise the Titanic! titanic.gif My crystal ball is a hazy, but I suspect it must have been the excitement of the adventure! jester.gif

I just consider that height thing to be a typo in that one book ... that's what I say ...

I thought about that, except Pitt's weight was heavier than the average 185 pounds.

The submersible Sea Slug looked aerodynamically clean and smooth from her outside, but to Pitt, as he contorted his six-foot-two frame into the pilot's chair, the interior seemed a claustrophobic nightmare of hydraulic plumbing and electrical circuitry

***

Dana cried out in startled pain as she was slammed to the deck. There were no apologies from Pitt for throwing her there and then crushing the breath out of her as he used his hundred and ninety pounds for a protective shield

Maybe he was bare-foot in RTT that would make him at least an inch shorter laugh.gif

Ever notice how Clive Cussler likes to use Modus Operandi.

There was to little fear from a Sunday swimmer or a diving tourist discovering my little modus operandi. The Mediterranean Caper (17)

Zeegler nodded in agreement. "Your story, Captain, fits the same crude modus operandi, if you will, of at least twenty other attacks in the last two months."
Vixen 03 (14)

Most murderers followed a pattern, developed a routine modus operandi, preferred a particular weapon. Gly's pattern was that he didn't have one. Every kill was completely different in execution from the last. He left no strings to connect himself with the past. Night Probe! (33)

"I've poured through old crime reports here and in Canada trying to connect their modus operandi with later unsolved murders, but they passed into oblivion along with Jack the Ripper." Night Probe! (66)

"If you've pegged Qin Shang's modus operandi," Stewart said happily, "we're halfway there." Flood Tide (29)

Giordino played his beam over the rockfall. "Their modus operandi. They have a fetish for blowing up tunnels." Atlantis Found (15)

Giordino's lines about Pitt's driving/flying/piloting really make me laugh.gif

For example,

"Whoever told you that you could loop a PBY?"
"It seemed like the thing to do at the time."
