I don't know about the other entrants, but I'd be willing to change a character's name, so that anything copyrighted wouldn't be an issue. Out of respect to Dr. Cussler, it's the least I could do.

I would like to be able to read the others, and still keep this in the spirit it was intended. Didn't somebody say "if it ain't fun....... "

I love the feel of a good book in my hand, always have always will.

With regards to eveyones story, we'll be able to read them all here, Tony K has already said that and with regards to Lulu I think it's a great idea but my story wouldn't be able to appear anywhere. The only phone call I ever made regarding the contest was to copyright problems and those people that have read my story would know it goes beyond CC characters and can't be rewritten in any other way than the way I wrote it.

Well, if there's a way to re-work them so they don't violate copyrights, I'd be glad to help with editing and formatting. I enjoy that sort of thing. Perhaps we could have an acronym that takes the place of NUMA, but we all know what it really is. Maybe even open it up to a few more stories. We could make it a break-even proposition, or round it up to the nearest dollar and give the proceeds to hurricane relief or something like that. Just random thoughts.

How much of your story came from fact? There was a plane found above Copper Canyon around Colby Pass that crashed in early 1990 (found in August 1990). Funny enough I camped 200 metres from the plane crash a month before it was discovered -- as always you cant see what is in front of your face.

Great read and you brought back great memories of Kings (and rather poor ones of Fresno).

Kept the pen going!

The story of Lt. Steeves' T-33 is true. I got as many facts about it that I could from old newspaper microfilms. I had to leave a lot of what happened to him while in the mountains out of the story, for space. Also, the canopy was found by Boy Scouts near the Citadel in 1977 but the manner in which they found it was made up by me, that's why I didn't name any names in that part.

I too have great memories of Kings Canyon. I feel it’s just as beautiful as Yosemite but not as crowded.

Sorry about the poor memories of Fresno. I think Fresno's problem is that she is between LA and San Francisco and can’t live up to the comparisons to her big sisters.

wave.gif It's great to go to the library and do research, like I used to do before the wife bought the computer in 2001. I have gotten lazy since! laugh.gif This old pirate needs to do that again. pirate.gif

What happened to David Steeves plane after the air force checked it out? Was that in the news? Did they ever extract it from the lake? detective.gif

In my story they left the plane in the lake. By the way, I just found out it is illegal to remove any plane wreckage from a national park. As the backpackers say, "Take only pictures, leave only footprints."
