Tonight at 11:21 p.m. North American Eastern Standard Time will mark the 50th anniversary of the STOCKHOLM slicing into the side of the ANDREA DORIA as they sailed through thick Nantucket fog. Eleven hours later at 10:09 a.m. on July 26, the DORIA sank beneath the waves. One of the most beautiful ships of the 20th Century was gone.

I'm ashamed to say I wouldn't have known if you hadn't posted!

She's a pretty ship indeed. Of all the photos I've seen of her, her bow always seems to be launching out of the water even on a flat sea. ALmost like she's taking off...has that beautiful clipper bow. I like to think she'd still be sailing like the QE2 if she survived.

Thanks Empress.

Cheers beersmilie.gif

Earlier today I saw a promo for a show on the history channel about the Andrea Doria so I am not surprised but thank you, Julie. wave.gif
