I'll have to ckeck to book this weekend and find out who the Sweetest Frenchman is. Weird I don't remember that part in the book but will find it and read that section again.

The reference can be found on the last page of the book (page 470 of the US 1st trade edition). Still wondering...

I have written a note right on my hand so I do not forget to check the last page. Now watch me get home and wonder why I have to "C" on my hand? srofl.gif

I'm supprised no one else has knows the answer. blink.gif

I just finished The Wrecker and loved it...But when the story goes 30 years ahead I'm concerned this is the last book.  I sure hope now. I am ready right now to start another one.  When can we read about Bell again?

Mary, since you are the most current reader and poster of the book, who is the "Sweetest Frenchman" who loaned Marion the Bugatti at the end? Clive usually makes a cameo and I am wondering if it was him?

Sehal to answer your question about the frenchman. Here's what I think about her meeting him. In Clive Cusslers books Dirk Pitt often meets Clive Cussler. I think this Handsome Frenchman is possibly the grandfather or great grandfather of Clive Cussler. Why? Well because he has cars like Clive collects and possibly left them to his son and his sons son Clive. If he loaned her his car he must have had a collection and was not concerned with her driving one. He must have been taken with her to have a tear in his eye when she said she loved another.

No character in a Cussler book is taken lightly. There is always a story behind the character. detective.gif

Thanks Malason. I was thinking that it was the customary Clive appearance but typically they are much more obvious. I was wondering if I had missed a clue somehow. Thanks again.

Do the Cussler cameo characters ever mention nationalities? The French connection here seems to be un-Cussler related. unsure.gif

Not that I recall. There is something different about this...

I think that's just the motif for the Isaac Bell books. Instead of the historical prologue that we find in most Cussler books, the prologue happens years after the story, and is actually the first part of the epilogue; then he goes back and tells the story; then we move ahead in time to where the prologue left off and wrap the story up.

Exactly. The Chase did the same thing. I acutally enjoyed it more in The Wrecker because towards the end I was asking myself, "what was the point of the prologue..."

Very nice!

I finished the book yesterday and I have to say it was pretty good overall. I agree with whoever said that Bell figured out who it was then didn't act but it wasn't too big of a deal to me.

One major reason why I really enjoyed it was that it took me about 3 months to finish it. I started it just before baseball season started and was making pretty good time reading. Then I had less time to read it and felt that sleeping was more important than staying up and reading. I went one month without reading any of the book. With the season over I started reading it again and when I picked the book up it was like I never put it down.

I was afraid I would have to start over or backtrack to refresh my memory but I didn't. Overall a great book.
